Thread: It seems like Tiggs is saying we'll be waiting even longer...

You have a very clear choice: want to hunt jedis? Go BH. Want to play tank? Go melee. Wand highest damage? Go ranged. Asking PvP, PvNPCang GCW for Ranger is like asking Jedi hunting for Enterteiner. There can be some specific ranger missions but not the whole stuff.
aha! so you're saying that BH attacks shouldn't work on creatures because there is, as you put it- a clear choice. BHs can only hunt Jedi, Rangers can only hunt creatures. Therefor, BHs should do no damage whatsoever to creatures. That's what you just said-- there's a clear choice. Doesn't make much sense when applied outside of Ranger, so why apply it to Ranger?

Works for me if you can only get creature loot with ranger and items like crystals are foraged items. That's the choice you made.
Yes, I was joking when I suggested this in the bugs thread.
I am not a ranger, and nevr was a master, (I did have a lot of ranger on bria before that server became uplayable for me)
Still, I like the light infantry idea. That is the one role that is missing from the combat equation.
Is there anything they can give us that wouldn't unbalance us?
Why haven't the Devs posted here yet?
Why are they paying attention to the professions whose hotfixes / bugfixes they break, whereas Squad Leaders get a "Tiggs: /muches on popcorn," and TH's obviously assulting post on the "Secret" smuggler handshake, and later Tiggs going to the community and apoligizing?
Why haven't the Devs posted here yet? Can't we even get a stupid /munches on popcorn of our own?
CMON!
Not even a "hey, we pinpointed the issue that was preventing mobs from checking for masked scent or camoflauge and will be putting out a HOTFIX for it shortly."
Has there ever been a Ranger / Scout hotfix? Nope. Out issues aren'timportant enough I guess.
I have heard several times that they want to fix bugs first. I noticed that Tailors took a hit in the last publish where they were unable to change the color in many things that they once had the ability to do. This has just be fixed on the TC, and I assume will make an upcoming hotfix or pub.
How many Ranger tools have been nerfed, even accidently, with each publish? They give more love to tailors and entertainers than to Rangers. It truly is sickening.
I sent a message to Tiggs requesting some acknowledgement of a possible future update or elimination of the Ranger prof (Before you all flame me, I am not propsing Ranger be removed, but lets face it... no love at all, and everyone else has had at least some love... the writing is on the wall, IMHO). Look at it this way... If they eliminate Ranger, we'll all get another respec token! I doubt an answer will come, but who knows.
I am too new to these foums to best judge if I have overstepped my bounds to PM a Dev, but I am a paying customer with two accounts... Both with rangers. I think some answer is due to me, and no one wants to own up.
There should be a dev dedicated to each career field to listen to the concerns of that field and to make the changes... gives equal love all the way around. We are not asking to be uber... but a couple of special attacks would be nice, if they won't let our traps be used against NPCs and players. They call it combat upgrade... Why are we on the combat downgrade?
One possible fix would be to combine CH and Ranger in to a single field, keeping the 140 SP cost, and only fixing the current bugs. That, I can live with. We may not have any weapon mods in our template but we'd have the creatures to be our power-up. Doesn't make us uber... just makes us viable as a combat class. Today, neither CH nor Ranger are viable combat classes in and of themselves.
I have vented enough for now. United, we stand. Keep asking the tough questions of every Dev you come across.

Well I have found Ranger is a good combat class, its just that we are not equal with all other combat classes.....balance. Group's love when I lead agains elete mobs, 'cause I can pull one a time to a safe killing zone for everyone else when the critters charge me , me being 45 metes from lair, and them being 30 + meters behind me. I can still solo up to 2 lvl 82's solo but normally only have to fight one at a time, again the pulling ability with my traps. I do wanna be more active in GCW, hence my desire for trapsagainst npc/pc's.
It's take me twice as long, or more, to do a mission solo but that is the norm now I think.
Realistically, I think our best hope at this point is for Blixtev to play a Ranger character, realize that we have major problems, and give us more attention in his spare time on the weekend then we've ever gotten in the last two years combined.

Where is JFreeman? He posts in the Smuggler Forums, the BH Forums, and the CH Forums. Where are our dev posts?
GEEEEZ
Geeez indeed. You need to switch your forum name to NegativityEngine. He also didn't post in the Entertainer, Commando, Jedi, Bounty Hunter, Tailor, ID, Droid Engineer, or Armorsmith forums. Rangers are just part of a larger game, and if you can't handle good things coming to people other than us...well, that's sad. Get over it and smile, we're all just playing a game here.

Not to rain on your parade, or even misquote a Developer, but at FanFest after hours, Blixtev said, "I mean who really know's what a Star Wars 'Ranger' is supposed to be?" I'm about 90% sure that's what he said, and granted it was after hours, and he'd had a few beers too, but I believe that there isn't really a defining role for rangers by SOE, LA, and while we have several, there is always support and idea's for new definitions, which could water down all the other idea's. In reality, I don't believe any of our idea's or role definitions matter at this point because I don't think any of the developers actually look at our forum. I just think it'd be nice to have a "Ranger Role Defined" sticky post to help the developers understand where a majority of the interested players would like to see us go.
The first stumbling block I see to any definition of a Ranger is an agreement on which 2 trees of Scout should be our Pre-reqs. There is one thing I will tell you for certain, they will not Balance a profession with a skill cost that much different than all the others. Having the highest requirements is not a benefit, it's a determent to them looking at us. Personally I like trapping and hunting, as ranger bases should be a step above scout camps, without being defined or limited by them, and that would give the Wayfaring tree a boost in that it doesn't bump your crawl speed, it bumps your normal terrain negotiation if you decide to not pick up the Exploration tree.
While I have to agree with the possibility that we will probably get cut down to two trees I will absolutely and completely be against such a change as ranger "should" be building on the complete ideals of what the basics are in scout. This means everything, not just a few ideas in scout. Our skills should stack with what we learn in the basics, not serve as an alternative for them. As an example if it turns out to be indeed trapping and hunting... why would I find it necessary to learn up ranger when I can get comprable skills just from master scout? (Maskscent/Conceal and Terrain Negotiation) It just doesn't make sense why anyone would stick with ranger after that.... Basically the only thing we'd still have is mods and our harvesting bonus... where is the fun in that? Ive had fun roleplaying a ranger for two years now and I want to ACTUALLY have the skills that Ive pretended to have. Trapping and Hunting might make the most sense from a perspective of our current skills but if we reinforce that wall, that wall will be all we have left, the rest of the house will collapse all around it. Im not certain at all that I will stay if they cut to two trees, but if it IS indeed trapping/hunting I will guarantee one less ranger among you, because its not giving us anything except what we already have, and Im already tired enough of that empty shell. Weapon certs/Combat mods might be enough for all of you but its not enough for me, I want the complete package.
