Thread: When are we going to get a Dev response?

I would like to thank Brisc and Calc for (I'm guessing) bringing this thread to TH's attention. Lord knows, the devs can't find this forum. I would also like to thank TH for reading it and leaving comments. It means a lot to me that he actually did that. Not that I agree with everything he said, but like I've said all along, feedback good, bad, or nuetral is far better than nothing at all. Hopefully, our point got across to TH that communication is very important to us, as well as the knowledge that we haven't been forgotten, and that we will be looked at soon.

I'd also like to thank everyone that posted and contributed to this thread, as our combined concern obviously made a difference. I hope we can continue to keep communication between us and the devs going through constructive postssuch as this oneto avoid ruining our good reputation. TH please keep checking in on our forum andplease give us a general idea of a timeline for when we can expect changes. If you can just keep us in the loop and continue to give us feedback on our proposals such as the outdoorsman one,we will be happy. We understand that you can't do everyone at once, but it would be nice to know where we are in line. Thanks again all!

Guys,

I'm going to ask TH to update the patch notes.

The droid is only to make harvesting convenient. You MUST have novice scout (at least) and it shouldn't increase or decrease what you can harvest.

Don't think that I would ever let them pull a nerf like that on us - I may have been around for a while, but I'm not senile yet.

That's actually pretty cool then. I could use one when I'm hunting aggressive mobs.

I assume the droid doesn't get aggro when it approaches the "herd" to gather the resources?

The devs have limited resources and they need to make changes based on what helps the most players, and what is in the most immediate need of fixing. That's why I've championing camping, and Calc is going after harvesting - those affect the most people, so we think they've got the greatest chances of succeeding.

The problem with this is - given the logic that changes are based on a priority of "help the most" - Rangers are never going to be touched. Or if they are it will only be minor tweaks and fixes. We certainly aren't going to get massive amounts of development resources thrown our way (and from the looks of things, the developers are already spread thin and far).

Exactly how much persuasion can Rangers possible do? 8 months and not even a hint of where the developers are leaning with Ranger? Have they even looked at the numerous proposals? How about the Top 5 lists? No? Nothing?

Wish someone would post some recent statistics on profession popularity. The last one is woefully outdated.

My question to you is, some day the Ranger profession will be done. What should it look like?

Since it seems that it is an ever evolving process and new ideas are thrown about daily (see the threads regarding Curing, Tanning, Polishing Meat, Hide and Bone....One with Nature.....Camp Cooking) it is hard to say what it should look like. It was stated to us months ago that we are supposed to be the ultimate creature Hunters. Are we still limited to that and that alone, or can we start expanding into some other directions for Ranger? What it should look like is unfortunately not up to us. We can offer our input, but we like to be pragmatic. Why waste time talking about a more military version of Ranger when we are limited to being Creature Hunters? As a collective this community will probably be more than willing to offer up as many proposals as you like with new and interesting ideas in each one, but all we ask in return is that you respect that we are taking the time to do this because we love this profession and we want it to be all it can be.

You will get the love. I am working on it every day. I know you hear that a lot, but the facts are is that this takes a long time. Until I have news I can depend on, that ismy answer. We have Publish 8 coming to TC, theLive Events team is working on some things and I'm working on professions issues. Whn I have something dependable, The challenge is that it's a big game to work on and then we have the Space Expansion coming up.

We did have a meeting today and I fought hard to get the combat balance put back on the plate. By my reckoning, it represents about 35-40% of the player issues. Would you say thats a wrong direction? I'm always open to ideas that speak to the most players at any given time.

I for one am really looking forward to the combat balance. I am so frustrated that I, as a MASTER FENCER, cannot really participate activelyinthe GCW or PvP because ofpeople who stack templates. I am hoping the combat balance will fix this problem.

On Game Immersions, how would you suggest that? (Im not disageeing, Im just curious)

I am sure there are tons of ideas floating around for this. One thing I was kinda thinking about today when I flew past this Player garage was, "why aren't there any NPC humans or droids out here fixing stuff?" Even if they are static, that would still increase the feel that the garage is "alive" with activity. Player cities get so dull because there is nothing there at all. Just seeing more droids up and about would be cool. Also we need some new music. If I have to hear that music that plays when you enter Theed one more time I will put my fist throught the monitor. Well, not really, but still you get my point. Its good music, but after almost a year of it, it gets old. New stuff. New stuff. New stuff! There are tons of ideas out there. I know it takes awhile for you to implement them, but just keeping us as much in the loop as possible will make us all very happy.

I too would like to say thankyou. Im a newbie to the game and therefore probably dont have as much right to complain as much as the veterans here, but I really enjoy playing as a ranger and all of the work you have put in gives me hope. Thanks also to TH for posting and giving us at least the courtesy of a reply, its a shame we couldnt be given more specifics as to timelines for changes and such. Im glad that that you have asked what direction we would like to go, but as has already been said the answer is on these boards. I understand there is a lot of work and a lot of professions some of who require a lot of attention, but you must admit it gets tiresome repeating the same proposals over again.

Anyway, im not going to end this post negatively. Thanks again corrs for your work and to TH for acknowledging our existence.

Holy crap! A dev replies after 2 correspondants plea with him to finally read our forum. That's sad. But I will thank you guys. You got him to read our thread, when you could have waited for this tread to die and just move on like it never happened.

I just read their thread, if they take "that" as good news I feel sorry for them. What did Mr Red Name actually say, bugger all really. Thats called a fob-off-and-stop-bothering-me speach if I ever heard one. Poor sods...... they should become Rangers..... :-)

hmm if TH is becoming a ranger maybe we will get some more attention. Or at least he will understand what we are going through.

SolrFlare wrote (and others wrote similiar statements):

We've been telling you what we wanted for the last 7 to 9 months(depending on how you count it) and what direction we would like to take this profession. Some things have changed with time because the game itself has changed, but, on the whole, the overall vision we have had, has never changed much at all.

Unfortunately, this is standard MO for the dev team. I'm not saying that as a flame or rant, I'm just stating facts. We DEs were having practically this exact conversation a few months ago. There's not much you can do except take a collective breath and work together to compile your wish list (again, I know).

As part of a profession that has had (and has) some recent dev attention, let me offer you the following tidbits of advice:

1) Don't set your expectations too high. What I saw happen a million times in the DE forums over the last couple months was people getting really excited over idea X or idea Y that the devs had already said (or implied) that they would not or could not do. Try to keep your discussions low-key, and understand that a good portion of your ideas, even though they might be the greatest idea since beta, will not be implemented.

2) Keep the rest of the game in mind. Another thing I saw a lot of was DEs requesting modules or features (and btw I'm not excluding myself from that statement) that were ulitmately good for DEs but bad for the game. As you compile wish-list items for Ranger, try to think outside the box and determine what far-reaching effects it might have on other professions and gameplay (i.e. tents with turrets: good for rangers, but possible instrument of griefing?).

3) Don't count red-name posts. Seriously. Let your correspondent be your channel tothe devs; that's what he's there for. Get the information you feel is important to them, and try to have faith that the dev team will see it. Also, along this line of thought, don't expect a lot of feedback from the devs regarding what is and isn't possible. They can't post that kind of information because what is or isn't possible is likely to change, and then they'd have to deal with a host of, "but you SAID...." posts.

4) Keeping all that in mind: let your imaginations run wild.

Good luck, Rangers. Your time will come.

Wow. Ok first many kudos to Calc and Delta for putting up with us...I mean getting this in front of Thunderheart. Secondly thanks to TH for responding. I would like to address some ofthepoints in his response if I may:

"My question to you is, some day the Ranger profession will be done. What should it look like?"

These are the types of comments that lead us to believe that we are being ignored. I am not flaming, but Calc, Delta and TH, please understand that The Outdoorsman proposal IS what we believe a Ranger should look like, while still trying to conform to the Developer vision of us. By asking us this it leads me to believe that none of the collaborating and brainstorming we've done to date has even been looked at, let alone addressed.

"You will get the love. I am working on it every day. I know you hear that a lot, but the facts are is that this takes a long time."

Understanding that things take a long time I would like to ask, what is your definition of a long time? 8 months it's been since the infamous post from Holo promising us new camps and traps, the Hunting Blind, and the /track command. Now according to JustG's schedule it will be WELL after the Space Expansion, and by TH's own acknowledgement of the combat balance, perhaps longer even, before Ranger's are looked at.

"We did have a meeting today and I fought hard to get the combat balance put back on the plate. By my reckoning, it represents about 35-40% of the player issues. Would you say thats a wrong direction? I'm always open to ideas that speak to the most players at any given time."

I have to agree that what you say here is fair, however bearing that in mind, and according to your numbers Ranger's will never get a whiff of attention. Perhaps as Pithren Darkstar mentioned the Devs should run some numbers on actual Rangers in the game, and remove from those numbers players that are just Novice with the Tracking line. I'd be willing to bet the whole Sabacc table let alone the money on it, that there are far less Master Rangers than any profession in the game. Speaking to the most players at any time will mean the extinction of the SWG Ranger much sooner than later.

"On Game Immersions, how would you suggest that? (Im not disageeing, Im just curious)"

Now that you've been in the Ranger Forum, perhaps you could spend some time reading the threads here, to get some ideas for this. We are dilligent and hard working here. My own suggestions would be to add some of the more "para-military" aspects of Ranger to the SWG Ranger, and also stealth. Please see Fred Skinner's really well written thread on stealth for a good reference here.

In closing TH we really need some attention. What we get for 140 skill points is not worth the time and effort. Calc and Delta thanks for getting a dev eye on us even if it was just for a moment.

This is exactly our problem really, we have no true feedback from the devs reagarding past ideas we put forward. Whether theycould be implemented or in what direction we should be focused towards.

We submitted the Outdoorsman proposal and over a month later we were told "its on my desk but our schedule is full with the jedi revamp"

HOWEVER we DID get some slight feedback on the modular camp idea, TH said himself the devs liked this idea. But we got no indication whether of not it would be getting work even in the light of camps become less usefull than they already were.
