Thread: When are we going to get a Dev response?
how about requiring uniform when OVERT? Who isn't sick of seeing everyone in Composite Armor? Why can we not have player crafted Storm Tropper or Marine Armor that are as good as Composite armor?
Wouldn't this game look more like Star War with PC running armor in Stormie and Marine Armor, or Uniform? Enough with Composite War

TH, thank you for actually posting in here and saying something. I think most of us will agree it is not what we hoped to hear, but we do at least appreciate some form of communication.
The one thing I do take some mild offense to though is this:

My question to you is, some day the Ranger profession will be done. What should it look like?

We've been telling you what we wanted for the last 7 to 9 months(depending on how you count it) and what direction we would like to take this profession. Some things have changed with time because the game itself has changed, but, on the whole, the overall vision we have had, has never changed much at all.
Thanks for actually saying something though. I do appreciate it, I think we all do, its just a shame it sounds like we won't be touched until after the space expansion.
Same here. The Outdoorsman proposal has been there for ages. It's comprehensive.

I honestly expect the "fix" to the shortage in organics will be to raise the harvesting rates for Novice Scouts, pulling the rug out from under Rangers completely. Just my prediction.

Indeed. The answer is that its always anongoing process and I do what I can.
It was an ongoing process that stalled in ranger's case. We were promised changes and implementations, and these got dropped after a partial implementation. Ranger camps and traps are still ineffective. Scout camps are now completely worthless, with the pet pulling and bike pulling after a 15 second wait.
we never got advanced tracking and mob finding abilities, never got ranger traps that work, (remember promises for deadfalls, and lures?)
we never got a sustainable camp that we could reinforce to fight from, or the hunting blind that was promised.
The intentions with the harvester droid should make things a little easier. Now you can harvest things without having to run back and forth. Its a step in the right direction.
Wonderful! for a rifleman. for us melee players, this is completely worthless
There is a lot going on with the Jedi Revamp and the GCW. New content is coming with the Vette and the new dungeon next month. Professions have a certain amount and we have the Squad Leaders and Smugglers coming up. In the meantime, we will address as many issues as we can.
our changes were promised long before the jedi, hologrind, and gcw were more than a twinkle in a dev's eye
My question to you is, some day the Ranger profession will be done. What should it look like?
The changes promised 6 months ago are a start. Making it the viable resource gatherer that it can be is a start.Rangers should be able to survey without tools. We should be able to see stats on harvestables beforechoosing. weshould be able to completely strip a mob of hide, bone AND meat.
Camo should work, effectively and easily.
trapsshould work better than scout traps
camps should be worthwhile...
give us the added bonusesthat innate knowledge of our prey would entitle us to. we should know their weaknesses and be able to target those regardless of our combat profession. we SHOULD be the kings of PvE. yet, we cant compete, since our skills take up so many points, leaving us limited in our combat professions.

You know, I'm beginning to think Devs are a myth. I mean, when's the last time we saw one on this forum?
Do you think unicorns think humans are a myth?
I'm not a myth. I'm a figment
it's our promised changes that are a myth... our actual class is but a figment of what it was promised to be...

You will get the love. I am working on it every day. I know you hear that a lot, but the facts are is that this takes a long time. Until I have news I can depend on, that ismy answer. We have Publish 8 coming to TC, theLive Events team is working on some things and I'm working on professions issues. Whn I have something dependable, The challenge is that it's a big game to work on and then we have the Space Expansion coming up.
We did have a meeting today and I fought hard to get the combat balance put back on the plate. By my reckoning, it represents about 35-40% of the player issues. Would you say thats a wrong direction? I'm always open to ideas that speak to the most players at any given time.
The GCW became the end all be all when the MMORPG fans got bored with waiting. our classes are imbalanced, and the classic mmorpg classes (ranger, healer, thief -smugglers) realized that we were borked. Cm's got love...and too much. they are now bio-terrorists rather than adventuring healers. rangers are inneffective. smugglers are a crafting profession? amazing...all that pistol exp that they require, and all we use them for is slicing, spicing (and only 2 spices, muon and pixie), and the occasional base raid.

I agree. We are the most apathetic profession there is. There is a fine line between being patient and rolling over. We just keep on taking it and the devs know we will so we are at the bottom of the list for fixes. We need to speak up because that is the only way we will be looked at. I'm not saying be rude, or demand the other professions get nerfed, but to be treated with respect and be acknowledged. Calc, saying that where there is hope there isn't flames, sounds really nice but it's the same attitude that has gotten us nowhere for 8 months. Check out the devtracker and see how the other professions get dev attention - they keep asking for it and they are united. If we all really want changes made, we need to do the same, and it all starts with our correspondent.
I would disgree with the fact that you guys are the most apathetic and Calculus is very diligent. All the correspondents have my ear.
we were not apathetic. we were aggressive, and got a partial fix. then they forgot about the rest, and left the unfinished class to rot.

I would first like to say that Calc, Delta...you have elucidated the priorities very clearly...I for one respect that. My concern is in this particular order
1) The game as a whole
2) The "star wars feeling"
3) Game immersion
4) New and challenging content
5) Rangers
I would agree. Except make # 5, "Professions". On the rest of that list, the combat balance fits into 1. Star Wars feeling is something we're all working on. 4. New and Challenging conet is in the works every publish.
On Game Immersions, how would you suggest that? (Im not disageeing, Im just curious)
Not my idea, but make the "antarian" rangers a reality. Make us a viable class, well worth the skill points. Give us the ability to immerse ourselves in the SW universe. right now we're a bunch of solo players who hide from the gcw, cuz a novice marksman will rip us up.
Just a few words, it's almost morning here in Germany and it might be a bit off-topic, but I think I shouldpost this here anyway:
Gaming experience for me personally is quite different from hacking and slaying and slashing and looting and powerlevelling and what else. In playing games I prefer depth, character, roleplay, stuff like that. This is why I chose to become a Ranger and that againis why I finally stumbled over this board just now.
But what I can see is that you guys are making a big difference here! Whatever SWG-Profession board I've looked at is spilled with what you call whining and bitching - and from what you want to keepaway. All over the place. You know, most of the people are (or behave like)kids not having learned that going outside to play might be fun. Literally and in a metaphorical sense. That's why they never even would think about playing something like the Ranger class.
I read through this threadas well asa couple of other postings on the Ranger's board and mostlyfoundthings, words, and postingsthat could be best described using words like intelligence, rationality, dedication, which differs quite much from others. As said above.
Since I'm just about to master the Scout profession I don't know about the problems you are experiencing (I surely will do soon I guess *g*) but what I know for sure from reading hereis the following:
Scout/Ranger seems to be one of the few player classes that actually might be interesting far BEYOND - most probably unbalanced and possibly even unimportant - game mechanics.Unimportant from a marketing- and business-point of view, we'reeverything but themajority of paying customers, we're just a few additional bucks - if at all. Maybethe fees payed by us few don't even compensate the development costs of the profession. I'm afraid they don't and this might be the main reason for finding ourselves at the bottom of the priority list. Still this is business and Sony Corporation and money and shareholders. I did a few software projects for Sony myself and better stop here. It would only frustrate you even more...

Heh. Are you actually serious?
Anyway, thanks for devoting all of ten minutes to us.

Thanks. It'd be nice if your hard work actually developed into something.
Stealth,
It will - but its not going to happen overnight.
I know, I know. It's taken X number of months already.
But you guys now know that the Devs are here, they're listening and hearing Calc and they don't hate you.
So take some comfort in that.

Ok, I think there's some confusion about this harvester droid. The patch notes say "Any player" can use this droid, but this statement of yours seems to indicate that this is a bonus for Rangers? Does this mean that the droid will harvest at the level of the player...or that any player (even non-scouts) can use the droid to harvest resources?
It seems to me that if non-scouts can use this harvest droid, then scouts have become obsolete, and Rangers have only the AreaTrack ability...which basically makes them obsolete too.
