  • Question: Where is areatrack going?
  • Answer: Areatrack is leaving at this time, the devs feel it doesnt provide a good enough experience. They did say that if done correctly it could make a return in some form. Hopefully we can get them to add in a well thought out tracking package before the revamp hits.

Right now, it doesn't look like tracking is going to be in the initial revamp publish. I can't comment beyond that.

Area track was always a mess because of game spawndynamics. I've never seen it work very well, and to work well, it should be accurate to a "T" within the range of 1,000 to 1,500 meters, not 200 to 400 - and inaccurately at that. It's a great feature, really great, in fact, if it worked. It doesn't work.

That's a matter of opinion. I still use it mutliple times a day...I love it and, like my Industrial Strength Hair Dryer, I can't live without it . Of course, this is also an opinion, but iwnated to make sure both sides are represented!

Any chance that Creature Handlers could use areatrack?

After all, flavor-wise, they have extensive creature knowledge - and could also fill the role of recognizing creature tracks and such.

It would also help in the guessing of riding around looking for a specific creature someone wants, like a non-CH mount.

Sounds good to me so far. Finally, SOE seems to have decided exactly what SW Rangers were supposed to be. I was already working on Ranger/Rifleman as a recon/tracking/combat profession, so some of the new stuff suits that pretty well. I would hope we could still track players, even if its moved to somewhere in the scout profession (maybe at Master Scout?). Since the new pre-req's would only require 2 branches of scout, perhaps a Master Scout will have most of the creature to-hit and harvesting bonuses we get as Rangers now, so keeping Master Scout wouldnt take anything away from what we have now. I didnt like the idea of Rangers "stealing" when I heard that, since we mostly tend to think of either the noble "fantasy" rangers, or elitesurvivalists/soldiers when we talk of a "Ranger", both of which seem above the act of theivery. However, as a recon unit, I guess it would come in handy for sneaking into an enemy camp and taking information or vital supplies, etc. As for the battle armor, I think we only got that now because of the kinetic resistances being good for fighting most critters. Recon armor makes the most sense when recreating the profession as an eliterecon unit.

Cant wait to see this on TC!!!

Oh please let them bring Area Track back, just put it in Scout, that will keep the CH happy as well, I'll just be walking around in circles like a crazed nuna without it!!

I posted a proposal in the Droid Engineer forum that the /areatrack code be used for a new "scanner module" on droids. It's really sort of silly to be looking at scents and trails in this high tech era. In my opinion it should be available to everyone, but maybe it should be a Scout-only module like the trap and harvest ones.

What I'd really like to know is if the new conceal/stealth skills will work on Kashyyyk. They added a quest reward camo kit for Kashyyyk, and it hasn't worked once.

I'm still a bit new to the Ranger community, but tracking is one of the things that really compliments my MCH. I use it to find babies to tame. Hell, I've really been able to pick and choose some nice creatures to catch with this skill. It also comes in pretty handy when hunting Krayts.

I am very interested, and like some of thethings i see them doing in the new template. It does seem they are leaning towards the Antarian side of Ranger. This is fine, but please leave the Tracking skill. I'll even settle for dumping it into Master Scout if you have to.

Where should we post to get the devs to consider leaving this skill?

It would help if one of you devs came over to the commando forum, it might help stop some of the squabbling if you cleared up a few of our concerns.

interesting idea..

im not sure if i completely love it, but keeping areatrack in the game, but using a droid to do it, might be very useful.

having the droid certed for a particular box of scout or ranger (pref scout) would keep the skill unique and useful.

Well I think this revamp sound pretty interesting. I do however, agree with the idea of keeping Area-track. Tracking is something you would see a ranger doing--both in the wild and in an urban environment.

Can the ranger traps also be thrown at enemies or will they only be placed/set/detonated?

If they cannot also be thrown, this would take away from our urban play quite a bit since we can't place traps in the cities.

Sorry for a minor push here...

If you intend to "look into" burst run, consider to "look into" forcerun at the same time...

Now, thanks for all your clarifications.

I suggested "Forced March", that works like Force Run but drains action instead.

For 3 years I have tried to find excuses to stay in game but only the expansions offered me what I subscribed for in the first place: A multiplayer Star Wars pve experience with friends around the globe. I found friends but with almost no addition of pve content they dropped out one by one. Now it's my turn.

There were a few new things. Fishing bait being found from searching in lairs, clearing up confusion on whether terrain negotiation was being removed from Scout, that kind of thing. Don't knock it
