Thread: The Outdoorsman
of all of the things listed I believe that a master ranger should be able to hide from all players/ creatures/ npc's
that is by far the most beleivable trait that could be given to a master of the wilderness!
Class-Interdependency:
-DE modules for rangers. Currently I have two droids more for "fun" then anything else. I use their storage modules I guess.
1) A Creature Harvesting module - The ranger uses his droid to assist him in skinning the kill. Gives a bonus to creature harvesting. (do you get group harvest penalty with droid?)
2) Areatrack module - Either extends the range, constantly scans for players, animals or npcs (could actually be useful in helping rangers assist jedi hunting, making sure no players get nearby), or gives an alarm when it finds a certain creature you've told it to look for (/track womp rat, etc).
3) Camp Areatrack module - put in with modular camps if that happens, droid circles the camp and warns of incoming creatures/players of opposite faction.
-Armorsmith Module
1) Anti-Armor trap - inserted during the crafting phase, this component lowers the armor rating/percentage of the creatures armor. Could be added to traps that lower melee/ranged defense, etc. (armorsmiths have complete knowledge of what makes and breaks armor)
-Weaponsmith Module
1) Guidance system module - component that increases accuracy, and chance of trap to affect higher level creatures.
-Combat Medic Module -
1) poison DoT module.
-Bio-Engineer Module -
1) Pheremone module - if a male and female creature are standing outside of the lair they "get together" and a baby is born! (its late, leave me alone) But seriously it puts the parents to sleep or distracts them and/or gives an increase to creature taming (either way helps CH's to get close enough to tame)
/shrug. Just some ideas I had, I think that interdependency promotes creating more player relationships, is a good money sink, and also promotes competition. ("Yeah I've seen these on naboo for 2k cheaper, everyone can make em, I'll go buy there" replaced by "wow I've never seen a ____ that has ___")
One other idea I had was a bonus to creature harvesting for when you attack only one HAM bar. Obviously useful for soloing, I don't know how hard this would be to do. The idea is that the ranger used "skillful shots" and therefore didn't scar the hide ... make swiss cheese out of the creature .. etc.
As you said in the official outdoorsman letter nrass, most of us are loyal players (you have to be to not be one of the FOTM powergamers). I'll probably stay with ranger for as long as I play this game. I would really, really .. REALLY like to see the changes proposed in your letter, but more then anything else (imo) multiple harvests, or something to increase harvesting capability. I don't think theres a single ranger here who can honestly say they have "too much hide" or "too much avian meat". I can't even come close to filling all the demand there is. Am I glad I can sell stuff for up to 100cpu? Yes and no. Its really cool to actually make money with ranger, but I think price gouging is terrible for the game. Essentially most crafters I know are used to getting by with little to no organics, or don't make things that require them altogether. Sad.
I tried running through as many replies as I could and got the idea of most of them. What stood out the most to me was one that mention a "real-time" tracking and NRaas' response.
The reason this stood out is that I thought of that all to familiar sys message you get when walking around agro creatures without wearing camo. Yeah you know the one "It seems your being stalked by.......(insert your favorite critter"
How much different would these 2 be from each other. If the system recognizes that you are a ranger and a agro creature is within range then why can't you specify a particular creature from tracking and the sytem focus in on it. The closer the get the more up dates you get. "You are 200 m from (creature" and so forth. Or "The putrid smell of a Rancor's back end grows stronger as you sneak closer to the beast!"
How much tweaking would this sys message take? Hmmmm. Just a thought.
In the scheme of things we have our thoughts, we have expressed our thoughts both politely and at times with a little anger (but we are not whiners!), and yet we sit in limbo. My wish is for a little word. Something that tells us that we are on someones mind. I read through Holocron's post from August. From August! 6 months and not much said to us. I just wanted a word something that tells us what they are thinking, what they are considering, and not necessarilly a promise, just an idea. To see if we have to re-think our strategies and help them more to flesh us out. We sit in limbo with not much more to debate. To offer.
Sorry just a little something that has been crossing my mind lately. Everyone here is great! Keep up the good work and thanks again NRaas.

The message isn't likely generated just from a creature being nearby. It would be from a section of the creature AI where it begins to stalk you. Because the game can't read your brain, it would likely take more tweaking than you might think.

Kind of like you stalking them. Very cool. I wouldn't mind stalking a few PC for fun too
. Would be funnier too, if you could make yourself look like wildlife...
"Youare being stalked by a Corellian Butterfly"
"Wait a tick... those don't stalk?!?!!"
/hugebump for all the new Ranger's not reading the floated threads.
Man do I miss N'Raas <sigh> ![]()
