Thread: The Outdoorsman
With increased skill in harvesting, a outdoorsman is be able to change a ugly corpse into a work of art. With a skillful cut, it is possible to produce a trophy from the greatest kills to display the hunter's prowess to the world.
- Possible Implementation:
- Implement the ability to /harvest trophy on specific big game creatures for which trophy art is available, and increase the trophy selection as art becomes available
I am not sure if anyone mentioned this but how about a real-time tracking option?
I mean that in a certain part of the tracking tree we get the ability to select a target that we already have in our tracking window and have the option to 'focus' on that target. Fore example I have tracking 4 and I spot a known enemy player in the areas I can focus on him/her so that a separate windows pops up(I guess similar in dimension to the target HAM window, or your won HAM window) that would Show the targets name/or type of creature as well as the distance and direction and would continually update it(of course it would only show certain information based on how far up the tree you are.)
While it might be more useful in PvP for hunting or avoiding enemies it could still be utilized in PvE for knowing how fast your getting to your prey andif you are heading in the precise direction(You have a critter south and you head in that direction but you turn right slightly and notice that your meters are going down ata faster rate so you may be heading in its direction more precisely).
I like the idea of the waypoint but for PvP purposes(which I tend to get into a bit more now though I still PvE alot more) that you could keep tabs on specific enemies while keeping up your pace so that you don't have to stop to track and let the prey get more lead or your predator gain on you so easily.
Of course if they leave the maximum ranged of your tracking your focus on the is lost. Plus maybe at tracking 1 you get one focus target, and tracking 3(is that distance) you get 2 focus targets and at master you get 3.
How does that sound and I hope I am not reiterating someone elses idea.
whenever I pvp, i send that /tell to whoever Im fighting
I don't see how being stealthed is overpowering or could be used for griefing. Give full stealth to the MasterRanger and weaker versions of it throughout a skill tree.In DAOC for example, the lower versions of stealth don't completely take you out of sight.Stealthers are a big part of the game and I don't think players have ever said that it was unfair.
For a player to take full advantage of stealth, they would have to spend the points to master the Ranger profession and not everyone isgoing to be willing to do that. Plus, they'll only have enough points left to master one combat profession (minus Commando or BH) without much, if any, dabbling. It really creates some interesting decisions that players will have to make in regards to their templates, and how theycombat stealthers. It's a whole new form of gameplay unknown to SWG thus far. Giving a player the msg that they're being stalked is an even better idea because it lessens the chance that devs can say Rangers have an unfair advantage.. plus it'd be fun to see how those people will react to seeing a msg like that.
I think SOE has to get some fresh ideas in there before this turns into another Planetside. ![]()

I was thinking about this earlier today! Cool! ![]()
I used to play a text-based RPG a few years ago as a Ranger. The tracking skill in that game was kind of interesting, basically, I did /track troll then when ever the troll changed "rooms" my Ranger would auto-magically follow it to the next room.
Now that might be asking a bit much here, but I think your idea would a goodability also.
Highlight the critter you just /areatrack'd then start moving towards it, as you get closer, or as the target moves, you'd get a "position update" spam. That would be very w00t!
I don't think it should be something the entire group, if you were in a group, should see, just the Ranger who initiated the track should see it. If the rest of the group just had to have a spam, make it something generic like "Ranger x begins to follow a creature trail" or something.
It would definetly offer a reason for people to group with a Ranger to critter hunt. If it were applied to NPC's and PC's (probably not PC's, the BH's would be more appropriate, honestly) it could REALLY give a boost to Ranger abilities.
Very nice idea Telephius. ![]()

thanks, this idea came to me while on a mini-raid with a rebel friend. There have been a few times when I was hunting someone or keeping an eye out for possibly enemies that could pounce me and I have to stop to scan a few times in a row to see their movement pattern. I think it is kinda clumbsy that I have to stop and keep going through that tracking menu just to keep an eye on one target. Also I find I get annoyed slightly when I find a creature that is to the south of me at 423m so I travel south and the next thing I know it is to the west 100m, it would just be nice to know when it changes its general direction to you.
