Thread: When are we going to get a Dev response?
Ok ....hmmm....
I don't generally disagree with much Draknev or the Correspondents say....however.....
Perhaps the reason the tone of this forum has taken a downswing is because the limited responses we HAVE received from TH and his merry men have indicated they have NO plans for us, and the promises made to us 8 months ago are "still on the table" i.e. still collecting dust.
Draknev, Delta and Calc: If you think my tone has been out of line then I apologize. Make no mistake though, I am as passionate about being a Ranger as you are. If, as you say, we don't have a link to Star Wars like others do, why did they bother with us? They say SWG isnt EQ or anything else so why'd they bother? The fact is they did, and people play as Rangers. Does that mean a Squad Leader has a link to SWG? I consider myself very well schooled in Star Wars lore and I'm hard pressed to think of a Squad Leader in the Expanded Universe or any other. How about an Image Designer? Can anyone place one of those in SWG for me? Chef? Ok Dexter. Anyone else? Need I continue? I think the Rangers in this forum, particularly though of us that have been here for sometime are entitled to be frustrated and to express that.
For the record, we are not whining, we are not b*&^%ing, we are expressing what we feelare some necessary feelings regarding our profession. We are the most INCOMPLETE, not broken, profession in the game, and censoring people's feelings, EVEN IF, they're not as articulate and well written and composed as what you may like, is not going to fix anything. Big run on sentence sorry.
I think I too will probably lurk for a while, as every time I seem to raise my head in here lately it gets chopped off. Good luck to you. I hope the Rangers will find some way to be heard, even if they fail, for whatever reason, to be heard here.
Respectfully,
Rancor,
We're not trying to censor you bro - my posts are specifically targeted towards the folks who think that we need to complain and whine to get our way. We don't. It doesn't work.
I'm not going to disagree that we're not complete, but we're not broken. And we have proposals still on the table, and they are still on the table. TH has confirmed that, as Calc has told everyone. But we're not a priority. And there is nothing we can do, except make legitimate reasons as to why we should become one, that will change that.
The devs have limited resources and they need to make changes based on what helps the most players, and what is in the most immediate need of fixing. That's why I've championing camping, and Calc is going after harvesting - those affect the most people, so we think they've got the greatest chances of succeeding.
Don't get discouraged. Your complaints are being heard, even if they aren't being acted upon immediately.
I know that doesn't make many people happy (myself included) but that's how it is.

I agree with Oppma and Rancor. It is obviously futile to voice concern or disappointment with how things are going without being blamed for the degeneration of the ranger forum, or being labeled a whiner. For those people who claim that this forum was the one place that ideas and concerns could be discussed without worrying about getting flames, they are now proving themselves to be hypocrites as they slap labels on anyone who raises a legitimate concern that they themselves do not agree with. Where is that idyllic forum now? If you go back and read this thread, you will see that there wasn't any intention to "**edit** and moan" or flame anyone, butlegitimate questions that needed to be asked.
We have been more than patient waiting for a dev response. While Calc and Brisc do the best that they can, they are limited by the devs' communication to them. I've been reading these boards for a long time, and I don't buy that the devs haven't answered us because they chose to use the correspondents as thier conduits. If you look at just about any other profession, you will see a red name there. Can anyone remember the last time, we saw one? I bet it was Holocron, who left months ago. So where are Rangers now?Basically the same place we were 8 months ago.
Forgive me if I don't feel like being in the group hug anymore, but I believe that at the very least the devs could make some effort to let us know we haven't been forgotten. If I have offended anyone, I apologize, but I, just like everyone else on this forumis entitled tomy opinion. Some will agree with me, and some won't, but it would be nice to be allowed to voice aconcern without being accused of souring the forum or being whiny. One thing has me curious though...how long will those of you whobelievewe are overreacting last until you too reach the same conclusion? Will you be content to wait another 8 months? Right now, even if we were scheduled to have something added it probably wouldn't even happen until theend of summerdue to the previous scheduled publishes. So if it was to happen, (which it won't), it would be over a yearwith no substantial improvement for Rangers. It will be interesting to see how long that extrodinary patience lasts before those of you start asking the same questions we have.

The problem with this is - given the logic that changes are based on a priority of "help the most" - Rangers are never going to be touched. Or if they are it will only be minor tweaks and fixes. We certainly aren't going to get massive amounts of development resources thrown our way (and from the looks of things, the developers are already spread thin and far).
Exactly how much persuasion can Rangers possible do? 8 months and not even a hint of where the developers are leaning with Ranger? Have they even looked at the numerous proposals? How about the Top 5 lists? No? Nothing?
They are still considering what the like from the Outdoorsman and the Holocron post. The Top 5 should get a look at soon since we just turned them in on Friday. That by no means we are in the works for some changes in the near future. I will work on a harvesting proposal next, now that the Top 5 has been submitted. This is a recent update I got from TH (which I posted last week sometime).
Wish someone would post some recent statistics on profession popularity. The last one is woefully outdated.

Next time they do profession stats, I hope they compare masters and novices, because novice professions can be very misleading. While Novice Ranger might still be relatively high due to BH's dabbling for tracking, Master Ranger is probably just above Squad Leader. Shouldn't the fact that there are so few rangers point out to the Devs that we need a fix, not cause them to ignore us because of our low numbers?
That's the truth. Most people with Novice Ranger are probably just Bounty Hunters who want to track their marks. I'm on Bria- one the most populated servers- and I could count the number of Master Rangers I've seen since launch on one hand. We really are on par with Squad Leaders.
I would think the devs would recognize the problem and make Rangers a priority, because a low Ranger population does have an effect on many other profs. The price of organics continues to rise as the shortages get worse and worse.
I honestly expect the "fix" to the shortage in organics will be to raise the harvesting rates for Novice Scouts, pulling the rug out from under Rangers completely. Just my prediction.

Gotta laugh to keep from crying.

That's what I mean. Everyone else is either getting revamped, looked at, communicated with, or tweaked in some fashion, while the Rangers patiently wait in their leaky tents. We need to stand up for ourselves and get at least the courtesy of a reply.
Indeed. The answer is that its always anongoing process and I do what I can. The intentions with the harvester droid should make things a little easier. Now you can harvest things without having to run back and forth. Its a step in the right direction.
There is a lot going on with the Jedi Revamp and the GCW. New content is coming with the Vette and the new dungeon next month. Professions have a certain amount and we have the Squad Leaders and Smugglers coming up. In the meantime, we will address as many issues as we can.
My question to you is, some day the Ranger profession will be done. What should it look like?

You know, I'm beginning to think Devs are a myth. I mean, when's the last time we saw one on this forum?
Do you think unicorns think humans are a myth?
I'm not a myth. I'm a figment ![]()

TH has started the question process since they now plan on revamping smuggler/squadleader next. We will get love eventually.
/puts on his patience hat.
You will get the love. I am working on it every day. I know you hear that a lot, but the facts are is that this takes a long time. Until I have news I can depend on, that ismy answer. We have Publish 8 coming to TC, theLive Events team is working on some things and I'm working on professions issues. Whn I have something dependable, The challenge is that it's a big game to work on and then we have the Space Expansion coming up.
We did have a meeting today and I fought hard to get the combat balance put back on the plate. By my reckoning, it represents about 35-40% of the player issues. Would you say thats a wrong direction? I'm always open to ideas that speak to the most players at any given time.

I agree. We are the most apathetic profession there is. There is a fine line between being patient and rolling over. We just keep on taking it and the devs know we will so we are at the bottom of the list for fixes. We need to speak up because that is the only way we will be looked at. I'm not saying be rude, or demand the other professions get nerfed, but to be treated with respect and be acknowledged. Calc, saying that where there is hope there isn't flames, sounds really nice but it's the same attitude that has gotten us nowhere for 8 months. Check out the devtracker and see how the other professions get dev attention - they keep asking for it and they are united. If we all really want changes made, we need to do the same, and it all starts with our correspondent.
I would disgree with the fact that you guys are the most apathetic and Calculus is very diligent. All the correspondents have my ear.

I would first like to say that Calc, Delta...you have elucidated the priorities very clearly...I for one respect that. My concern is in this particular order
1) The game as a whole
2) The "star wars feeling"
3) Game immersion
4) New and challenging content
5) Rangers
I would agree. Except make # 5, "Professions". On the rest of that list, the combat balance fits into 1. Star Wars feeling is something we're all working on. 4. New and Challenging conet is in the works every publish.
On Game Immersions, how would you suggest that? (Im not disageeing, Im just curious)
