Thread: Have you seen the organics survey device on TC2?

It shouldn't go live at all.
If people don't think that with this tool Rangers won't becoming the next FOTM afk alt profession they're deluding themselves.
And now back to your regulary sheduled upbeat rangers posting
I'm guessing that if it does need a cert it's likely to be a low level Scout skill. Scout being to Ranger what Artisan is to WS/AS/Arch etc. Also, this is tacked on as a reward to a FS quest, so (fingers crossed) it should stay fairly rare-ish... for a week or three...
That having been said, knowing what materials are in an area is one thing, getting them harvested is another.
Doc: "That Tat avian is looking particularly sweet just now Ranger, go get me 100k..."
Ranger: "I got two words for you doc..."
*** There was another page of posts lurking... ***
IF it's tradable, and if it can be used without ANY Scout / Ranger skills, or if we don't get a HUGE increase in range / accuracy over the artisan users, than I'm going to go on the rampage.
The quests Bera got this for are hardly taxing. So I'm revising my previous laisse faire position for one more along the lines of NO! It's got to be certificated and restricted to 'our' tree. After all, you can pick up weapons and schematics as parts of quests that you yourself cannot use (Gamorrean axe, tailors schematics, FWG schematic... and that's just from Jabba, lol).

Do you still have the device Beri, or did it get re-rolled? Maybe you can meet Calc in-game and let him take a look (if you both can get on at the same time).
I haven't been to the TC2 since Sunday (when I took the screenshots). I assume that the toon was wiped on Monday as they were threatening to do. I will try to check tonight to see if he is still available. If so, I can try to contact calc to give it to him in person or maybe I can put it on the baazar in some out-of-way place so that he can buy it later.I Veri - could you also tell us if the device is tradable? If so, this might be worse that it would normally be, as I predict that the tool will soon make its way into the hands of the most wealthy of crafters who, of course, will not hesitate to use it to further consolidate their hold on the market.

I am sorry, I didn't try to trade it & the toon is now wiped. However, we can expect it to be similar to other fs quest rewards in this regard, so someone else could also answer that question.

I have an alt account who is a master artisan/architect, but if he were to get one of these survey tools, I'd still rather go with my ranger for killing and harvesting organics.
Still, getting creature resources from thin air doesn't make any sense at all. But, if non-scouts/rangers will now be able to harvest creature resources, I don't think there's ever been a better reason for Rangers to finally be given a bonus to creature harvesting

I too have stayed quiet until now. But I'm getting angrier and angrier as I continue to read these posts. Thortac brought up one major issue that I have. I don't know off hand what the hardest meat is to harvest. Maybe Corellian domesticated meat or something similar. Critters where you have to track them, critters you can't find missions for on terminals. Critters where even a Master Ranger only gets 10 untis a kill. This makes me furious to think of a novice artisan getting more from a sample tool than a master ranger can get through tracking, hunting, skinning and collecting the meat. Absolutely infuriating. What is stopping me, a Master Ranger, from dropping ranger and scout and just sit at my desk reading a book while my character samples these meats, hides, bones, fish, and who knows what all else. I hope this does NOT go live, and if it does, I will honestly for the first time since I got master in April, consider dropping ranger and scout. This is totally making me angry and sad to see out prof neglected and being stepped on even further. Up until now, I've not complained ONE bit about the dev's neglect on the ranger prof, but I am seriously pissed off at them now.
One question and request I have from those of you who do have this tool. Can you please send in what meat, bone or hide you are sampling, from what planet, and what critter drops it? I don't remember who it was that posted earlier with the statistics of 9, 10, 11, 10, 10 etc. and it took a sample every 30 seconds. If this was a rare meat such as Corellian domesticated, then this is just a huge travesty for our profession.
I sincerly hope this does not go live, but if it does, the ranger profession will be a total joke. And it rips my heart out to say that. I love being a ranger. I've stuck with this profession the longest out of all the others I've done. I honestly don't know what I'll do if this goes live.

I rolled a complete novice toon yesterday, ran him thru the accelerated process, as a rifleman/ranger to get to Dath, tried taking the survey mission and got told to, uhm, go away. Scooted back to the outpost, took Survey IV, back to the village, toon gave me the survey mission.
My first profession when I got going in the game was Master Artisan. The surveying quest that is given here is a joke. It is marginally more challenging than the newbie artifarty one given by the relentless green droid (Where, by the way, are they in this? THere ought ot be green dustbins splattered all over the panet by now...)
From a CONTENT PoV that blows chunks. (I will be cc'ing this or a slightly edited version of this to the appropriate place, btw, so don't panic. Am not going all postal and flooding the Ranger forum with FS whingi.... oh, yeah, I am... sorry. Look, bear with me)
I got the non-bio survey tool. Which, as my other skills on the toon were high end ranger, shows it's just a random loot OR somebody has got a sick sense of humour. "Hey, lets give the commando-kiddies a biosensor and wind up the creature harvesters.... They'll have to SWAP TOOLS, that's interaction..."
Gave the non-bio a blast. It works. If the organic verson works as well, then the dev's have ****ed up mightily.
I demand a simple 'play eight flourishes' mission that gives me a device which reduces BF by a small amount wherever I use it.
A simple 'kill eight npc' mission that gives me a device that loots 1 in a hundred NPC's in a 500m radius.
yeah yeah, ok, am preaching to the choir too (hadn't heard that phrase since my old granny died) so will get off this particualr hobby horse and seethe gently in the corner.
