When I was given the 1st quest of the series, I was a pure combat template without any scout or artisan skills. (Which is strange and buggy in itself.) I had to go back to the frog terminal to drop some combat skills and pickup Novice Artisan and the survey branch to be able to do the surveys. I also had to craft the survey devices, if I remember correctly.
I finished the quests and received the award with the same template after about 1-1.5hrs of play.
Then I dropped artisan skills and picked up combat skills again. (To try the combat oriented quests.) At this time I noticed that I could no longer use the survey device.
On Sunday, I picked up artisan again to get the screenshots. On monday the toon was deleted.
One thing I cannot remember clearly is if I got and dropped Ranger or Scout at any point before I got to the village. I don't think so but you never can be sure given how easy it is to get professions the frog terminals...they are addictive. If I had the badge for these, the NPC might have been confused.

Doh. I could test this later myself, but does anyone know what the lowest level of Artisan/Surveyor needed to use this is?
I'd dropped the lot to go hunting before it occured to me to check. I'm guessing it's Novice Arty? But with limited range?

But, if non-scouts/rangers will now be able to harvest creature resources, I don't think there's ever been a better reason for Rangers to finally be given a bonus to creature harvesting
Better being the word. I dont think rangers should get a harvesting bonus as an 'offset' just because their skills are getting devalued by other systems. We should be entitled to a harvest bonus on simple merit due to the fact the bonuses over master scout are so minimal. Sure we canask more, but id much rather stop this item being 'pushed' and conentrate on getting us a harvest bonus without harvesting being devalued.

How many SP in the FS tree did you have to invest to get the survey quest? I really hope this doesnt go live. ITs bad enough novice scout with a droid can get almost as much harvest as a master ranger, and we are already penalized to group hunt .. I was hunting on dant with 2 guildes yesterday I harvested 45 units of hide from a piket, the guidle with hunting 4 got 35 .. sigh .. but I agree with a previous poster if this does go live and they start to show up in game I will think about dropping ranger, and go commando or some other combat heavy prof get a survey device and still harvest inorganics in bulk ... hmm there goes the ranger population (which is already low to begin with)

One question and request I have from those of you who do have this tool. Can you please send in what meat, bone or hide you are sampling, from what planet, and what critter drops it?
Ill be trying to get the organic version reward today and once i do ill be heading to planets such as tat for avian, talus for wooly and corellia for domesticated etc. Ill test a wide range of critters if i can and then try those results up against my master ranger for comparrison.

NONE. The quests simply enable you to train in the tiers you unlock (1 tier per phase). The skill boxes in the fs tree have nothing to do with the quests and rewards, the quest just let you train the boxes up, sort of like unlocking them.
For example, i do the quest i did last night and unlock the 'Luck' tier in sense. I would then be able to convert any fs xp i have into training boxes in that tier. I wouldnt however be able to train the suvival tier until i unlocked it via the quests.

Do you think its too early to hire professional angry mobs and a wide variety of pitchforks and torches?

Iwouldnt go that far yet
But theres no harm in drawing up some plans

First we need to get a good few of these devices and get testing. Problem is you have to wait for the phases

That or one comment from a dev saying that its going into live or not going into live. Would allow us to get ready. Its been worrying me more that not a single dev has acknowledged this things existence. Which usually means its going live and they just dont feel like dealing with the flaming.
Now wheres my pitchfork. Im not doing frontieering a third time until i know whats going on

I've been thiking about questions for TH or any dev who comes into this thread.
1. How do you feel this benefits artisan, scouts and rangers?
2. Are there plans to compensate scouts and rangers if this tool is released? Not monetarily but with increased abilities, lowered skill points ect?
3. If your answer to 2 is "They only go to the people finishing the FS survey quest and so few tools won't make a difference". Then I ask what do you consider to few? And that there will be many many people who get this ability as crafters to be able to do this. Which will make this tool a lot more common then you might have felt it should be.
4. If your answer to 2 is "It doesnt harvest that much and the recursive macro fix wil make sure they can't get much". Then how do you answer to the fact that this will flood the market with very high end materials from planets that normally have very small harvests. Which will infact touch every profession from buffing to food? Don't you want to keep the materials a little lower to slow down the super soldier issues? And that workarounds are available to every recursive/afk macro fix that will come out.
5. Normally the SWG Developers communicate with the players well but in this instance it didnt show up in the TC notes and no dev have confirmed this items reason for existence. I understand that your under time constaints for publish 10 and making sure that everyone that wants to be force sensitive can be. But isn't communication more important when something that changes two professions livelyhood directly is involved?

The tool is tradeable also so there is nothing stopping crafters actually buying these items instead of doing the quest, although the quest is so easy i wonder why anyone wouldnt want to do them his/herself

Frankly, it plain old DOES NOT MAKE SENSE! Sample avain meat from the ground?? It's whacked! Somethings don't need to be made easier and this is one of them. Hunting is a challenge. It is a whole type of playstyle. Give us higher rewards, not some lazyman's method of getting the same thing with no effort.
Maybe possibly I could see a survey droid or something that you could send out and it would send back a report of the current stats (with a chance it would fail/get crunched by a rancor). But this thing is just WEIRD.
Drat. I'll be gone all weekend but when I come back on Sunday I can't wait to read the further adventures of the organic survey device lol. And I'm getting perilously close to ranting tone. Eep.
