I've been reading this thread for awhile and thinking about what this might do to the game.
1. Even if it is part of a quest, if this goes live there will be quite a number of people harvest creature resources. That is just how games like this operate. Once someone finds out how to get this special items, many people will know and then a large percentage of players will have one.
2. This will be bad for the game and hereare some reasons that haven't been stated.
a. Less people will need to battle to collect the meats, hides and bones. This affects several different professions. Weaponsmiths, Armorsmiths, Doctors, medics, and entertainers. Less people fighting mean less wounds to heal, fewer purchases of weapons, fewer purchases of armor, and few purchases of buffs.
i. I know that I have helped many a good weaponsmith, armorsmith, etc while making my way up the Ranger profession. I've taken on jobs collecting meat for them, and I've used their wares.
b. Grouping will be reduced unless it is for places like the Corvette, DWB, etc.
i. This game is already to easy to solo hunt. We need more reasons to group together, not less. By making crafting professions less dependant on non-crafters (combat professions) then this will lead to the combat professions taking jobs strictly from the mission terminals. A very bad thing in my opinion.
What are some pros to this sampling tool? A greater amount of armor and buffs will be quite uber, and it will be cheaper to produce. I honestly don't know if this is agood thingor not, though I am certain that PvPers might enjoy that

Alright, I've been quiet long enough. If the artisans get this, I want the ability to survey. A ranger should be able to do that better then a stay-at-home rich prissy artsy-fartsy any old day. If we can't survey organics I call shinannigins on the devs.
LOL
Good old fred to the rescue.
"shinannigins" Anyone ever seen Super Troopers? shinannigins just makes me laugh because of it.

Do you still have the device Beri, or did it get re-rolled? Maybe you can meet Calc in-game and let him take a look (if you both can get on at the same time).

I haven't been to the TC2 since Sunday (when I took the screenshots). I assume that the toon was wiped on Monday as they were threatening to do. I will try to check tonight to see if he is still available. If so, I can try to contact calc to give it to him in person or maybe I can put it on the baazar in some out-of-way place so that he can buy it later.

It shouldn't go live at all.
If people don't think that with this tool Rangers won't becoming the next FOTM afk alt profession they're deluding themselves.
And now back to your regulary sheduled upbeat rangers posting
I'm guessing that if it does need a cert it's likely to be a low level Scout skill. Scout being to Ranger what Artisan is to WS/AS/Arch etc. Also, this is tacked on as a reward to a FS quest, so (fingers crossed) it should stay fairly rare-ish... for a week or three...
That having been said, knowing what materials are in an area is one thing, getting them harvested is another.
Doc: "That Tat avian is looking particularly sweet just now Ranger, go get me 100k..."
Ranger: "I got two words for you doc..."

Yep, the toon is no more.
