Thread: The Top 5 Bug Responses
As a side note, I actually found cammo worth-while under the assumption that
NPCs were supposed to be avoided by it as well. With this not the case, and
with this rather half-assed selective response we've received I see no more
reason to retain Master Ranger. Further, I would strongly suggest any aspiring
rangers look elsewhere - perhaps when no one is willing to play a Ranger in SWG
they'll actually consider the failings in the class as it exists.
Maybe I'm annomaly then, because I have walked through the Tuscan fort, and through the tunnels under it while /conceal-ed without being noticed. I regularly walk past NPCs that hate me (high negative faction) and they don't even twitch. I have slipped any number of friends through sticky areas without drawing the unwanted attention of predators and aggressive NPCs too.

If Bounty hunters get traps versus NPC's i'm outta this game. Bounty Hunters are already one of the most powerful proffessions, and with the ability to spam their shots, they could be THE most powerful. They are killing machines. What conceivable use could they have for trapping the NPC's?? They can just kill them! Why bother trapping when you can just use an LLC and destroy anybody in your way? No way should Bounty Hunters get MORE powerful and get a skill that Rangers have.
OK I'm a BH but I've been browsing through these state of the proffesion pages, Ranger interests me from an RP point of view just as BH did, so I thought I'd put a little reply to this one. You may be talking about BH in PVP, but for our actual BHmissions LLC is definately not the be all and end all weapon you think it is. Try standing 16mclose to someone with 10k HAMand using it (its a heavy weapon so styles have to be 16m or less) BH pistol is wonderful I love it, but we are purely offensive, within 10 seconds my action bar is completely gone, and I haveno defence, if they scratch me, I WILL fall. Carbine I'm starting to level in now, but from what I've read BH carbine suffers just as much as I'm sure you've all heard carbineers complain about (and rightly so). So we're a purely offensive character that hunts NPCs for a living, dancers get more defence than us, and we have spent a whole lot of points mastering scout, just like ranger, but with very little to use it for, maskscent to avoid creatures on the way to our targets, useless since vehicles, and the ability to run up hills at a sensible speed which is about the only defence we have.
We're bounty hunters, we hunt bounties, in this game we kill them, but in the films they were just as willing to "trap" them I don't particularly care if the traps are NPC only, or bounty target only in the case of player bounties which they are now discussing, but I would like a reason for mastering the scout tree, and it'd be nice to have some small defence for the 217 skillpoints we spend, even if that defence is just the ability to kite better.
However Camouflage is camouflage, devs please don't even think of making this creature only, one of the coolest things I understood rangers could do was to camouflage an entire group so that they would go undetected across a planet (except by players, that was never an option as the introduction of the radar in order to deter Player Hack radars proved and believe me I discussed this long and hard on the pre beta boards with the devs). I read what everyone's saying and I really do think Rangers need love, keeping camouflage as NPC+creature, rethinking ranger traps to make them more useful than scout traps, fixing camps so that higher level camps do actually have a chance of deterring higher level creatures, and a rethink of tracking would go a long way towards it.
Please don't let personal thoughts on BHs detract from what you want rangers to become.
Whoops... just re-read the first post. You are right, they will definately screw up the Ranger if they REMOVE our ability to sneak past NPCs.

"The developers have deemed our profession to be the Ultimate Creature Hunters"
Please forgive me forgive me for any negativity, but do any developers actually play the ranger class? What if any of our skills qualify us as an ultimate creature hunter?
- Traps? Sure you can root a tough creature and get off 2 shots..... heck maybe even take off 5% of their ham... and then your dead. The effects on traps don't last long enough to be effective, The only thing I use them for is a possible escape hatch. Adhesive mesh then burst run. Of course now with vehicles, I can just hop on my speeder and whiz away.
- Tracking? Well considering how creature spawns happen based on pc activity in the area, the benefits are somewhat dubious.
- Camps? How much true benefit do you gain with ranger camps over scout camps? The heal bonus is nice, but with the points you spend on master ranger, might as well delve a little into the medic tree.
- Burst Run / Terrain Negotiation - If crawling fast means we are ultimate creature hunters, then we are in business. If not, again.. what is the true benefit over scouts?
My main argument here is what tangible benefits does a rangergain over scouts? Furthermore how many classes can you name that are superior in creature hunting? Quite a few.....
To be honest, I'm seriously thinking about dropping master ranger for creature handler. Then I will be able to hunt the larger creatures in relatively safety, while my pets soakup the damage. Can anyone in a non-lucid state say that rangers are better pve creature hunters then a creature handler? That fact that I'll lose a small percent of harvest bonus will be far surpassed with the speed I'll be able to bring down animals.

As a previous poster said, we actually have yet to be shown a path. Where is it?
Help define it so I NRaas can bring me the best of your ideas. Thats all I ask and I will get it dev attention.
Wow...quoted by TH.
So essentually, we'll be showing you guys the path. That's cool(but we're running out of ideas
Ranger needs help! Rangers should be the Master of the Enviroment and all that enter their domain. Real life examples of Ranger display them as the ultimate infantrymen and survialist. With that in mind... Traps for Humanoids should be added, penelaties incurred to Players who are in the wilds, Ranger camps should also have activate terminals such as Imperial or rebel terminals if Overt. The list can go on and on without over loading the Profession.
From what I have read the current Ranger Population is not a group of people who want to slay the galaxy! So I am asking the Developers to reward us who spend hours alone deep deep in the middle of nowhere, for our fortitude and dedication to the path of Ranger.
"Rangers Lead The Way" (if the Dev will let us LoL)
1. some people came to Ranger with preconceived notions about what Ranger should be, which have NOTHING to do with what it is currently and they are unhappy because their vision does not sync up with what was written right down in black and white when they chose it.
2. some people came to Ranger because a holo told them and they are whining because that's all they do
3. some people came to Ranger because of what the SWG game said it would BE, and they thought it would be cool.
for all you number 2's... piss off.
for all you number 1's... I feel your grief, I have been a "Ranger-type" in every RPG I have ever played.. but this is NeverWinter, EQ, or some LoTR game. Its SWG. Now to be fair, the devs themselves have not been true the vision of the Star Wars Ranger (Antarian) but some of that can be fixed over time. But some of you are requesting a complete redesign of the profession to be something not even closely resembling what it is now. Don't hold your breath.
for all you number 3's... and I am one of them, hang in there.. be proud, provide constructive criticism and feedback and keep the faith. Things will work out, and they will do so sooner rather than later with a hoard of friendly Rangers helping, rather than a bunch of crybabies stating "Why I quit Ranger.."

Oh...my...lord. I'm biting my tongue nearly in half here. This is insane! The top 3 of the top 5 get NO mention?! Camps not repelling aggro creatures has been an issue since DAY 1! I don't care that we had some attention paid to us in August! This should have been fixed. Period.
My irritation knows no bounds right now.Am I the only Ranger upset by this turn of events? Anyone? JBMat???
right with you man, i started reading thru the posts just fer one like yours. camp repel is huge along w/field base disbanding(wish). i'm dropping ranger now on my holo/jediroutebecause of no mention on camp fixes. this with terrain negotiation is the best parts(for me)being a master ranger. hopfully they fix it by the time i unlock my FSS and go back to ranger.
rangers need a hunting rifle and a few other 'wish list' things to make this a GREAT profession. i know we get creature-to-hit bonus but a hunting rifle would ROCK.

I agree, I have always liked the "ranger type guy" I was lured by what it would be. I am hopeful, unfortunately the holos told me to master a skill I hadn't anticipated (swordsman) and I want to take the challenge, you can bet I will be back to ranger after I get my FSCS, then I can also finish rifleman too.
Master Ranger/Master Swordsman is a VERY doable combo. No reason they can't work extremely well together.
The really disturbing thing about all of this is the development team. I've had some time to cool off, and did some research. I looked at some of the other responses to Top 5's from the Dev's. Go look at the attention to detail in the response to the medics Top 5. Rangers and Scouts, (Pikemen really come to mind too) got hosed. Totally blown off. "We're looking into it" "We'll check and see" "Thunderheart is working with us on it". I mean no disrespect but this is bull. Thunderheart apologized for all the time it took getting the responses together and I laughed out loud. How long could it have possibly taken to whip out a response like the one the Rangers got?
I'm not even a Pikeman and I feel like they got punched in the gut. Then TH comes in and says "tell us what your vision of Ranger is". What? Are you serious? 6 months after launch and you don't have an idea of what a Ranger should be? There are a myriad number of ideas for a Ranger to be patterned from, yet we're pigeon-holed into the "hunter" category. As I mentioned before we have much more to offer.
Do a search for N'Raas' thread on the different styles of Ranger. You'll see what I mean. Dev's pay attention too. We are more than this.

Dude.. seriously.. calm down.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I was taught to never slap the hand doing the offering.
Maybe they genuinely WANT out input and maybe they don't... but responses like this help NOTHING. Why does everyone feel that whining and crying about what you DON'T have and a lack of constructive input is an effective way to get what you really want? I swear I am going to scream if I see one more "Fix this or I am going to quit" thread.
Honestly, I know as well as anyone what the problems are with some of these professions, especially Ranger. And I am not happy about some of the things that appear to have gotten overlooked either.. but crank it down a notch, okay?
