Thread: Our Next Question for TH

Well I hate to be the half empty Guy. But it dosen't really matter what we ask. They have a steady trend going since launch if you haven't noticed. They have been fixing less and less in the game patches. And now they are making the jedi class so anyone can be one. Add the fact that they are giving these free 14 day trials, I think we are seeing the begining of the end. they seem to be doing anything to keep us paying $15/month. Is it any wonder why most of the re-vamps are being postponed til after they Jack us on an Expansion, They're just hoping the subscriber numbers go up with JTL. If not they can close shop and at least they can build a Jedi based game since they willalready have a system built.

We should Ask Why those of us with classes broken since launch need to wait for them to develop Classes that are not only suppost to be rare but weren't even in game til months after launch, and for the same reason ask them if all these classes being ignored cancelled til we got our fixes would that incourage them to work on patches quicker?

I already cancelled one of my two accounts and if it weren't for the friends I have in my PA I'd have cancelled both. Luckly a few of my guildmates have been playing a WORKING MMORPG! with me(CoH). Ishould cancell my Ranger til JTL comes out. This game has so much potential it really is a shame that SOE is more interested instringing us along with this 19 question BSto keep our monthly fees comming inthen actually tring to make the gamefun for everyone.

How about:

"The Ranger community has been waiting patiently for a re-vamp, since our developer was re-allocated elsewhere in September 2003, leaving many promised updates ucompleted. Since then, with the introduction of player cities, vehicles, removal of the need for camps and the 'fix' to /conceal what fewabilities we had have been steadily erroded, albeit in some cases for valid game reasons. A number of excellent suggestions have been submitted by the community since last September, including the detailed submission of the Outdoorsman proposal. However, we have never had ANY positive feedback and the latest reports from the the Fan Fest indicate that the Devs only see a very limited creature centric view of the profession.

Would you please confirm the Devs view on the boundaries within which this profession may be allowed to develop (for example what role do the Devs see the Ranger performing in the galaxy as a whole and in the GCW).

Please do not put the question back to the community in the form of 'how would you like to see the profession develop' as we have submitted numerous rationally explained ideas and never had any positive feedback or direction."

- OK not a question that TH can provide much of an answer to, but more a means of politely expressing a point.

Oh by the way, Dizzy definately does help KD attacks stick; but creatures will, of course, get right back up from them.

As things stand now, the 19 answers really don't tell us anything (Wait for the Combat Balance, No, I'm not sure, Maybe, says exactly what the entire player base already knows, etc). As such, I don't see much of a point in making the question a normal question. But the actual phrasing of the question we ask does matter. Pointing out things like dizzy, conceal, and conflicting responses from multiple Devs will force a response. If TH blows the question off then I think most of the game community will flame him.

Asking for a small change will do nothing (see the Million Monkeys threads for an example). TH will just tell us to work with our correspondent to get something in the Correspondents' Issues patch.

The exact wording will be hard to decide. I'm not sure how much time we have before submission, but I would consider just making a list of the inconsistencies we have on the direction of our profession. We need to provide a strong basis to stand on without making it sound too wordy. Something like:

The Ranger profession has many inconsistencies in the information we have from which to derive a professional purpose. Some of these are

  1. You (TH) like the Outdoorsman Proposal in which Rangers attempt to fight the creature only view of our profession while, at the Fan Fest, GreenMarine still seems intent on the creature only view (although he later admitted to not having seen the proposal).

  2. Scouts and Rangers each obtain a dizzy trap (Lecepanine Dart at Novice Scout and the Sonic Pulse Trap [the higher of the 2 Ranger traps]). Dizzy only fully works on humanoid but traps only affect creatures.

  3. The description for /conceal indicates that it works on NPCs. When Rangers reported many months back that the NPC perfomance was bugged, the Developers claimed that it was never meant to work on NPCs and that we were meant to be creature only (contradicting the original description and prompting the Outdoorsman).

With the recently stated Developer focus on the Galactic Civil War, Rangers are worried about our role in this endgame. The Mandalorian armor certification seems to point to a divergence from the creature only view but the Fan Fest discussion had us firmly embedded in the original view. What is the Developers' current view of the Ranger profession? We realize that this is all subject to change but we need some direction to continue working on ideas for our profession. At the very least, we must be aware of a view to challenge or expand it. Some example answers that the Ranger community would find acceptable (even if we don't like the view) are Creature Hunter (best at finding creatures to kill and knowing how to kill them), Creature Killer (best at actually killing the creatures), Outdoorsman (as in the proposal), Military Ranger (expert at hiding and attacking in the wilderness and sabotage/ambushes), Aragorn type Ranger (a combination of the above views), Park Ranger, etc.

Any thoughts (especially in the section describing possible answers)?

It has been suggested by a certain power that we need to ask simple, easy questions this week...I know, I know. In light of my direct question to the Devs about the Outdoorsman and if it has been looked at and is being considered, I would like to ask a more straight forward question that I really should have gotten feedback from already (but haven't):

Will Rangers get a creature harvesting bonus prior to or with the Combat Balance? If so, what sort of order of magnitude can we expect the bonus to be (+10 skill, +100 skill, +1000 skill?)?

I would love to address the stupid dizzy trap that affects only creatures but has no effect on creatures, lol...that just kills me.

But, we would just get an, "err, duh...um, let me look and see..."

I like the creature harvesting bonus question Calc suggested.

I also (having mastered carbineer and commando) love damage mitigation as a part of the skill trees of combat professions. ( a Master Combatant with mitigation 3 and NO ARMOR, is probably as safe as a Novice with light to med armor,IMHO (i cant prove it).

I know its already been brought up, and part of the Outdoorsman, but should we ask about Creature Mitigation?

We could give 'em a double whammy, ask 'em about defense against creatures (mitigation)and offense against creatures(increases creature to hit bonus (and is it currently working?))since they are so willing to admit our creature-centricities...(is that a word? )

Grrrrr. Lazy Devs. Well, I'd say that my new question is simple and easy enough. If he can't answer that then I would guess that any other question is too hard as well. It might be a long question but the answer is quite short (as indicated by the sample answers). If he needs to do research to answer that question then there really isn't an answer.

In the absense of anything but the "are you ever planning to..." or "when will you..." type of questions, my question would be:

"What is Green Marine's favorite flavor of ice cream?"

This could provide useful information

i can not believe it... i never posted my true idea, and it showed up anyway... partially thanks to nemo0, and partially thanks to goldmember's humor... i wanted to ask:

"let's play the word game TH, when i say 'ranger' do you say: hunter, outdoorsman, cowboy, ghost, or dunedain?"

alas, as far as easy questions go.. go get'em calc... although, i suggest a change to the question so that it doesn't just imply a bonus to the actual harvesting score (there are lots of ways to implement a bonus to harvesting, this is only one of them.. another method could be a change in the harvesting equation):

Will Rangers get a bonus to creature resource harvests prior to or with the Combat Balance? If so, what sort of order of magnitude can we expect the bonus to be (2x, 5x, 10x)?

That sounds much better. I wonder if bonus is the right word, or if we need to work 'increased harvesting mod' in there...

Will Rangers get an increased harvesting mod (relative to Scouts)prior to or with the Combat Balance? If so, what sort of order of magnitude can we expect the bonus to be (2x, 5x, 10x)?

How about that one?

Oh sure, you laugh now but what-are-ya-gonna-do when Green Marine starts working on ranger and we don't know how to bribe him? We'll be up a creek without a paddle.
