Though I have to change my path now, I was a Master Ranger/Master Pistoleer/Medic 3,0,0,3. I was completly self sufficient. With Bio Med clothes and fa3, I could craft my own b's and completly heal myself in combat in one shot.

Master Pistoleer (even though some specials are broken) with a good gun sliced 1.2 krayt scout with a speed powerup was just insane. And though the dx2 needs some revisions, it's really good against light armored enemies so long as you are using a speed powerup and a decent speed slice on it.

I could harvest the maximum resources and use them for my meds as well as sell them on bazaar. There was some lokian wolley hide I camped for a while that I could sell in 200 lots for 3k and they didn't last 2 seconds on coronet/theed bazaar. So money was no problem selling resources.

Of course you can't go up against a commando or bh head to head, but you wouldn't have chosen ranger to begin with if you wanted that. And at master pistoleer, I have taken out my share of bh's.

Master Ranger gives you unsurpassed speed when kiting mobs in mountainous areas with little risk killing reds.

Ah yes, You are correct, I've been having to forget skills to free up points, and just got them mixed up with my current holo path. Since we have to be perfect in our quotes here or get a finger pointed at, then here is what I actually ended up at while master ranger. This doesn't affect my post above though...I was still totally self sufficient with just one less pistoleer tree. I had to remove one of my pistol trees near the end.

Marksman - 0 4 0 0
Medic - 3 0 0 3
Scout - Master
Pistoleer - 0 4 4 4
Ranger - Master

Well... Not perfect... But accuracy is a plus.

What works for me is master ranger (which i have not acomplished yet) and bounty hunter 0-3-0-4.

The carbine knockdown shot rocks, and the L canon special attack at level 4 deals awsome damage. I find I can hold my own in PvP, and still contribute a great deal of firepower in PvE hunting parties.

This leaves a mere 1 point.

Was a ranger/pistoleer but gave up pistoleer in favor of rifle and I am enjoying the change.

The template I'm gonna try is as follows: Master Ranger/Novice BH/Novice Carbineer/Medic 2-0-0-0. This'll leave me with one lonely skill point. I'm currently 2-2-3-3 in Ranger with all the rest. Traps, stackable action bleeds, and a LLC really make big game hunting a good way to make a living.

This thread seems to have returned from the dead - but I've got to reply to the chap who didn't like MCH/Ranger!

I suspect that the root of the dissatisfaction might be down to your fighting style more than anything else. If you are heavily into PvP then, yes, the lack ofelite combat skills (beyond the pets, who are more damage absorbers than dealers) would be a problem.

PvE though you only need ranged weapons skills to Marksman IV - the major adds at eliteenableyou to fire on the movemore than anything else. If you can control the mobs (using your pets), you can spend the entire combat crouched or prone, compensating for the lack of movement skills (a good gun/armour is essential!).

My current MO is to send in the 'heavy' pet first (Toxic Merek Battlelord) from long range (>64m) and wait until all the MoBs are agrroed on it. Then send in the 'light' pet (Crystal Snake) and move to medium range (30 m.) and roll-shot to crouch, health-shot and keep blasting. Once the first mob is down, sic the pets on the next target, rinse and repeat......

This works fine for me solo for up to DL 40 missions, with pet HAM left over - might work over that if I get my nerve up to try it!.

15 of my remaining skill points are in novice medic (CH does need it!) - switching to Artisan when I want to survey.

You'll have noticed that the ranger skills aren't used much (or at all) during combat. As has been noted in the 'issues' list, traps are of little use against higher level mobs (more productive to shoot them) - I don't think I've used a trap since I got to Master Ranger except to help out the odd person who I wasn't sure was in trouble.

The Ranger skill is primarily a support skill allowing you to get about without being attacked (maskscent - camo I only find useful for concealing others since it breaks too frequently to be worthwhile), find suitable prey and survive for extended periods in the wild.

Ranger/CH works well instatic groups since you can direct your pets from a camp without getting in combat and having your base disband (obviously you can't shoot though - that's what the other people are for!).

If you are heavily into PvP and/or want to do massive damage then Ranger/CH is not as good a combo as a lot of others. PvE/Support though it's a dandy combination

That said, I will almost certainly have to change my style once the new patch goes in with creature changes, etc. and it may well come to pass that weapon skills become far more important to the CH class. If that is the case and CH/Ranger becomes unbearable to play I'm afraid I'll probaly drop the Ranger first (most likely to 4/0/4/0, if not completely), athough I'll absolutely loathe doing it.

I'm currently trying to finish out survival IV so I can master. I also have pistol 0041, CH 2211 and medic 1001. I'm fairly self sufficient that way, and also fair useful to a group, what with my creature tanks, medic skills, and /areatrack to help us hunt. Had a very successful hunt on Dathomir today, actually. We hunted kwis and natches. Just 3 of us were in the group, but the other two told me over and over again they were quite glad for my /areatrack. I'm looking forward to mastering so that I can also use dath camo. Then I'll be superman.

Find a fast and powerful weapon (I have a pre-nerf krayted fwg5), and buy lots of high quality stim-bs. You'll be everybody's friend with that and your /areatrack.

Ranger 4-4-4-0

Pistoleer 0-4-4-4

CH 4-3-1-0

I like it, I pretty much go anywhere undetected with my ranger skills, can handle a pistol pretty dang well, and can call a graul mauler, riverside sulfur mynock, or bile drenched quenker when I run into the real nasties. I used to have a bit of medic, but then realized it's not too often that I actually get banged up enough to need it.

The camokits I can use help me with creture taming.

There is nothing like standing in a group of Rancors trying to tame a baby!

I have 5 regular Rancors and 2 Gnarled Rancors.

It's a RUSH trying to tame these.

I suggest you try it.
