Thread: What should happen to trapping?
i would agree with you on not losing master scout, if they would actually make master scout and Ranger worth 140skillpoints.
Deep breath...
Do with traps as was done with camping. Make everything depend on general scouting experience.

Yeah that was mentioned a bit back about making trapping dependent on scout xp and yes it would work.
There are lots of downsides to each suggestion really, this has a lot but so does making traps always stick etc. I supose i would be ok if trapping gave scout xp as we would get the scout xp from killing the creature (when you get weapons, scout etc) then after you harvest you would get scout too so it would kind of even itself out.
It is most definatly a solution but i would still prefer to see traps head down the same route of grenades with speed and acc mods.

I like the fact we can make money by selling the best resources, and we make good use the rubbish for ourselves.

I think I agree with Dave here. My creature recycler would be worthless if we could experiment on traps

Personally, I'm not overly excited about having experimentation on traps. I like the fact that scouts/rangers are free of the stress that other crafters have of looking for the best resources, this would be particularly acute if we were able to use traps in PvP.

I'll just digress for a moment. If we were to go for generic experience points (i.e. scouting), then how about we get a "scout xp" reward for successful use of the rescue ability? (Something like "You successfully distracted an Enraged Rancor: You recieve 600 points of scouting experience").
Yeah that would work, or it could just be tied to scout xp contribution?
You know, your actions are logged during the fight so when the total xp is divided up at the end of the fight it decides how much of each xp type you get depending on the impact/frequency of certain skills. We could just make rescue contribute towards scout points so if you use rescue during the fight, your scouting % will go up. That way rescue would be set up in a similar way to all the other combat abiliities out there.
personally, I think they need to tweak trapping. first of all.....get ad mesh working, fix pop tarts to actually snare.....then make both a ranger trap not a scout trap. ad mesh being for masters only. give ad mesh a 30 second timer and P darts the same. do not make them stackable, but do allow a new trap to hit when old one is still there, but restart the timer. As far as the trap skill points compared to CL....personally I think that is the way it need to be. There should never come a day when a novice ranger (or master scout) should ever land traps as often as master rangers. gives scouts the state traps....(def down, etc) give novice rangers and tier 1-2 trappers a couple area traps, and save ad mesh (when fixed and working) for master rangers The trap XP should not change.... I grinded 700k trap XP in one night as CL 70....from novice ranger. if they are still working on thier scout trapping....the their CL is still pretty low anyway, so why mess with it? And Master rangers should be given a new attack... (vulnerable shot) If we can see the weaknesses of the critters (which we are able to do...just not now) and we are given a bonus to-hit creatures.....then we should be able to target that also. Just a thought.
My advice is a warning not to make trapping easier. Only bad things will come of it if everyone can trap like a master ranger. Owen I see your POV....JB I see your POV.....I am leaning in the middle. We need a Ranger Revamp before trapping revamp.... trapping only needs some tweaking.
Firstly, where the hell does JB get off with his blinkered attitude!!!
Ok, BJ take this real example:
Brand new toon going MBE to make pets mainly. Original plan is Novice TKA for some defense, MBE, Scout 4-0-4-0.
Reach CL20 and decide to go for full Scout and possible 1st tree of Ranger.
Best trapping XP I can get is 1xp per kill. Being a member of a guild that hunts nearly every night I jumped at the chance to get my combat xp up and now wishing to go full scout I am screwed basically.
So exactly what did I do wrong? We are talking real world and not some perfect world you live in!!
This toon is not a respec or a CL80 just a typical new toon.
Having played this game since the start I have never had this type of issue with any other change in professions. Even respecing other toons, never a problem.
To SoE and its reps - Get off your butts and fix this problem - enough has been discussed on these forums. We ALLknow the problem and discussing it for another few months is pointless.
So enough fancy ideas and just get them to fix it so it is balanced with all the other professions in these situations!!

Currently your only option, unless you have and are willing to use a respec left, is to match your CL down to your trapping level and then relevel back up 'evenly'. As you say, you're not a CL80 and you have the support of a guild for levelling again.
I hate to agree with JB (and you've no idea how much I hate agreeing with him
Yes, its a pain in the butt, yes its something we'd all like to see fixed. Unfortunately it's probably somewhere near the bottom middle of the dev's to do list atm and carping at individual players ins't going to get that changed.

So, what do you propose that we DO do then? Owen has presented a few possible solutions and asked for comments and any other ideas. How would you suggest fixing trapping in a balanced way?
Almagill,
If you are going to reply to my post, please read properly and digest before replying.
Why do I not get the same or a similar issue with any other combo of professions?
If the only classes that has this problem is Scout andRanger does that not strike you as odd considering all classes are suppost to be balanced?
No guesses, no shots in the dark, no I think!!
What is the official SoE answer to this?
If you believe that this should be the case then lets do it to all professions.
Exactly the same problem was had with combat professions on the TC and it was fixed.
So unless you can have a quiet word in the CEO of SoE to get it fixed stop trying to help. That kind of help is not what I was asking for.
My suggestions is they fix it.
As we have very little control over what happens (Take CH profession as example). The Devs can do what they normally do. At least if they bother and make the effort to fix it, it might get better then having us chewing grass over it in these forums.
What is the point in making yet another 'wish list' when the Devs have not even indicated any views to us on the matter!!
I do not see a lot of the 'wish lists' from the CH forum in the CU. SoE do whatever they want and we do not really have any effective input to that.
So maybe our efforts should be to put pressure on them to just fix it instead of ignoring us as seems the case by the original poster.
If all the energy spent debating this idea and that idea was put in an organized fashion towards demanding better communication and action from the Devs then maybe we would start getting results.
