Thread: What do rangers in star wars do? Answer inside.
It's also quite laughable that i can kill something as powerful and as big as a torton and can't appply the skills used in doing that to killing something much less deadly, people.
Much less deadly? Wow, you got that one wrong.
People are far more deadly than any creature even in SWG.
Sorry hit the wrong button.

The Deathstar was made by people and it can destroy a whole planet of the most dangerous creatures.
Btw please go try to kill a creature with pure ranger skills and nothing more. Please try to kill the very high end creatures with basic weapon skills not not elite skills. I haven't seen rangers using hunting rifles, nope they use weapons that are normally wielded by soldiers. Half of our skills already deal with people, i'm sorry you missed the point of that.
Defenses aren't working in the game yet either, maybe they intended for us not to have them in your logic i suppose? Just because traps don't effect humanoids yet doesn't mean they won't at some point, and the devs have already stated as much. It takes time to design a good class in an rpog, we were not finsished on release as were many other classes, or haven't you noticed that most classes are either not done or borked and broken? It took them 2 months to finish commando.
Keito said: Btw please go try to kill a creature with pure ranger skills and nothing more.
Of course not that is just plain ignorant.
Rangers use the skills from other classes combined with their Ranger skills to kill animals.
Why don't you know this?
Keito said: There is also no other class in this game who has anything to do with killing to level that is relegated to pve only, not even the creature handler
Many classes are not designed for combat. You are just mad that SoE designed Rangers to be Creature Hunters and not Combat Military Class like you wanted.
Keito said: I haven't seen rangers using hunting rifles, nope they use weapons that are normally wielded by soldiers.
Yep, thats one of the problems. People should not be hunting creatures with ATST's and Flamethrowers.
ATST's and Flamethrowers were designed to fight WAR not Critters.
Keito said: Half of our skills already deal with people, i'm sorry you missed the point of that. i'm sorry you missed the point of that.
Gee, I did miss that. What skillls are you talking about?
To hit Creature bonus? Is that the one.
Camps? No cannot be that
Camoflauge? No ,that fits in with what I am talking about.
Tracking? Well the NPC and Player track could be thought of as an aid to combat. But just as well it could be thought of as an aid to an Explorer, Survivalist Ranger and not as a Combat Rambo Military Ranger.
Keito said: Ok if that is so go solo a krayt dragon then, go try to solo a torton and then try to fight a person, tell me who's harder to kill.
lol. funny. People are still way more dangerous than any creature. Do the creatures form packs attack towns and work together as a team. Nope. Not yet anyhow.
But people do. They leave a city and travel far to attack Krayts. Who is more dangerous. People are....
Keito said: we were not finsished on release as were many other classes, or haven't you noticed that most classes are either not done or borked and broken?
lol, Yes I have noticed. My Ranger is a Rifleman also, so believe me I know about broken. But those classes you are refering STARTED OUT as a COMBAT class. What you cannot understand is Rangers STARTED OUT with NO , I say agin NO indications, no hints, no promises of COMBAT skills, ONLY Creature Hunting related skills.
Many of the other non combat classes were and are still broken. Are Droid Engineers all of a sudden supposed to get combat skills? Are Chef's supposed to all of a sudden turn into Rambo. Nope, because they are not a combat class. Just like Rangers.
Rangers are supposed to take what combat skills they have, with a Rifle, Pike, Pistol etc and apply special skills to be the best at killing beasts.

I want to be an Antarian Ranger! I want to live the life of danger!
So take up Commando and call yourself an Antarian Ranger. You willbe happier.
Ranger is a combat support class, meaning it enhances our combat abilities in pve, it will do so in pvp too once the devs are finished working on us. It isn't a stand alone class but it does enahnce combat abilities and you cannot argue that it doesn't. It will enhance our pvp combat abilities too. Btw laying traps in war is considered a combat support role. Scouting and recon is a combat support role. Nobody here has asked that they make ranger a combat arms class, combat arms means front line soldier that fights toe to toe with the enemy. Poison darts for pvp, yep i can see a ranger doing that. Flash bangs for pvp, yep i can see a ranger doing that. Setting up trip wires and booby traps like pits and such, yep i can see a ranger doing that.
Not anywhere in my post did i say we should get special ranger only weapons like bows, rifles, pistols, carbiens or heavy weapons or for us to even receive bonuses on those things. We want our traps to have a use in pvp. We want our camps to have more function that would be needed and wanted for pvp. We want camoflauge to have a pvp function. This doesn't make us rambo or a combat arms class because to kill we still have to take a combat arms class like rifle/pistol/carbine etc.... Saying that we shouldn't pvp because rangers aren't a stand alone class is close minded and stupid. The ranger skill tree does add to pvp capability and it can add more without even changing our lines , just by adding more specific traps for that purpose to our already existing traps, which the devs ARE DOING, i will say it slowly, THEY ARE WORKING ON IT FOR US ALREADY!
Lets see, soldiers use camoflauge, hunters use camoflauge.
Soldiers learn survival skills, hunters learn survival skills
Soldiers learn how to track, hunters learn how to track, both can track people and animals.
If i set a bear trap and you stepped in it do you think it might have the same effect on you that it would say oh a bear?
Animals are color blind, wearing camoflauge doesn't help a hunter one bit, it's used against people. Nope if you stay out of sight and mask your scent animals won't know you are there. Scouts are just hunters, rangers are alot more. Our skills effect people too.
Tracking, yep i can track people as well as animals
Traps yep, already proved trapping a man is as easy as trapping an animal. Unless one is trained to spot such things, most people are not.
Camps? Medical facilities in the field seem much more like a military thing than a hunter thing, least of all the hunters i know of in real life they don't have such things on their hunting trips outside maybe a first aid kit, they sure don't need a camp to use it.
It states flat out that our camo is supposed to affect npcs------people, it's not a huge leap of logic for it to affect players who are..gasp! people too!
"Yep, thats one of the problems. People should not be hunting creatures with ATST's and Flamethrowers.
ATST's and Flamethrowers were designed to fight WAR not Critters".
Are you serious? Of course these things should be able to kill animals, what kind of a fairy tale land do you live in? If i throw a grenade at your dog you think it wouldn't die? Wanna test this out? What you gonna suggest, that animals only aggro rangers and nobody else? It's absurd to suggest they couldn't kill an animal with their weapons.
"Keito said: Half of our skills already deal with people, i'm sorry you missed the point of that. i'm sorry you missed the point of that.
Gee, I did miss that. What skillls are you talking about?"
Read the above post and learn.
"But people do. They leave a city and travel far to attack Krayts. Who is more dangerous. People are...."
Krayts have been known to attack towns, it's part of the lore in star wars on tatooine. That is why people hunt them, they are a danger to all. Lots of other creatures do this in star wars. Again this is star wars not deer hunter, these are not the animals in our world, they behave much differently, but if you want a real life example, There's a movie, a real story about two lions that attacked a town in africa and killed many many people, an expert hunter was hired to bring them down and he found a cave full of human bones. Tigers in India are known to do this too, they are called man killers for a reason. Given the choice i'd rather fight a man.
The ARTISAN CLASSES you referred to do not have to kill to level or live in the wild either. Again ranger is supposed to enhance our combat ability not be a stand alone class. If it's not going to enhance pve and pvp like every other combat related class i'm not interested, for 140 skill points and the weak WEAK pve content we have it's not worth my time.
Keito said: Ranger is a combat support class.
Nope we are a Hunting and Trapping class.
Keito said: Saying that we shouldn't pvp because rangers aren't a stand alone class is close minded and stupid.
I am saying we are not a PvP class nor were we intended to be. Closed minded? You are the one fixated on Antarian Ranger to fulfill your pet Star Wars Fantasy.
Keito said: Every ranger in the US army learns weapon skills and basic bivouac skills(survival) long before they are even considered for being a ranger, ranger is a new set of skills that requires weapon training prior to qualifying for the job. WE have to learn a weapon skill to be able to be a ranger.............this means ranger enhances the weapon skill. It is not a huge leap of logic to say the ranger skills we have are not a similar concept, and they are they makes us far more capable than if we did not possess them.
lol, again that is a Military type Ranger not a SoE Ranger. Do they take US Army Rangers in Safari in Africa and tech them how to track Lions. No their skills are directed at one thing. WAR and COMBAT, They are designed primarily to kill people and break things not hunting animals.
WHY? Do we only have CREATURE to hit bonuses? No PvP bonuses like the true Combat classes do?
Because we are designed to HUNT and TRAP and KILL ANIMALS.
If SoE had any idea of making Ranger a Combat class did they not have Ranger traps effect NPC's? They are doing do now because there are enough whiners saying "Waaa, we cannot PvP, Waaa ! "
Keito said: hunters use camoflauge. Then he said: Animals are color blind, wearing camoflauge doesn't help a hunter one bit, it's used against people
Ah, can we say contradiction? lol
Keito said: so go away troll
Not a Troll but a Ranger/Rifleman playing the game the way SoE designed Rangers not as your Star War Fantasies about Antarian Rangers say they should be played.
Enough of this debate. A debate is a battle of wits and Keito, its hard to have a debate with you since you are clearly unarmed.
