Bugs are important to be fixed to be sure, but professions need attention beyond the addressing of bug complaints. Im talking about the usual staple of listed professions, us, SL, etc. Ultimately I think that a lot of what we consider to be "bugs", they dont because they have something totally different in mind. A similar statement was made about the "bug" of creatures and pets not having specials way back and they hinted that they had something better in mind. Clearly what they had in mind is much better than any "pet specials" could have been. I think that once the new CH system is worked out then our /examine will fall into line. I have similar thoughts about the fixing of camp repel and adhesive not working. Why would they bother fixing these two issues if they are simply going to redesign the individual systems one at a time? New camping system? No need to fix old camps. New trapping system? No need to fix old traps. My feeling is that while a large segment of the team is focussed on chasing down and fixing bugs a smaller team will start the processes of altering long standing systems. Notice the CH changes are huge yet theyve clearly expressed an intent to focus on bugs. That "focus" has left them plenty of opportunity to make some major modifications to a much maligned and abused profession. We might be next. This thought is both reassuring and troubling. Ive heard unconfirmed rumors that a dev said they were looking at moving us to a two tree pre-req as well as adding weapon certs and mods. This could be good, yet I feel strongly that this doesn't jive with the role many of us have started to look at, the ultimate scout. Creating just another combat profession is all well and good, but would eliminate a highly unique and potentially valuable contributor to the health of the game long term.

QFE. I'm hopeful that that's exactly what's going on in the background (new trapping system from the ground up, etc) but also fearful that it'll be an entertainer/slicing-style system rework and not what CH looks like it will be.

OK. If I remember correctly there was a post a long time back about what they had promised us, but hence I think it was removed. And I think it was from a red name. So long ago I don't even want to search for it.

We have posted about being a "Ranger" straight from their own books that are with the game, and the game guides they endorse. Nothing.

We have posted the same bugs from combat logs since I was a Novice Scout in Aug'03. Traps not hitting for states. HTFB not keeping aggro out.

We have posted about things we need to make "sense" of being a Ranger. From harvesting all organics from a creature to our own weapon and even a hat.

Hey how about making it so /conceal removes us from radar. Nope to hard to impliment can't be done. NM great idea, how about if we give to rifleman as /cover. Removing us from radar was from some of the very first posts in the Ranger forums.

HTFB has never kept aggro out. Traps have never really work for Ranger, we really on our novice profession traps which are way better than what we have.

We were left out of CU, which should be a clue. I remember doing the poll on the CU and it saying ( I don't remember exact figures) I want to say more than 80% of the people testing it were not happy. I read the article where the person from Sony being interviewed said that the CU was an overwhelming succes by the beta-testers.I went to the forums to find the poll and I think it was removed.

In 2 years, we got /areatrack, which never worked correctly, /maskscent and /conceal have never worked right. Oh yeah we got the ability to harvest more than any other class, but that was right before CU. Post CU organic prices dropped.

To say that things happen, they have alot to do and all the other excuses is balogny. These people know what they are doing, they just aren't doing it.

To say people are only posting what they know from what they are told is a bunch of bull as well. They are putting in words that sound good to the corporate heads (so they can keep thier job and make them feel important), that gives no information at all, but is still a fallback for when they screw it up and say "Remember when we said blah blah blah, that's what we really meant."

They got a whole new Dev team. Woooo, because they made the others trying to fix the game leave I'll bet.

Why have i never dropped Ranger? It took to long to master 2 years ago, and I made great friends doing it. I don't have time to go thru the my whole template again, just to figure out what I want to do with him. I tried to during the CU /respec period and could never bring myself to drop it. I tried out a few professions though, and came up with plan for my Wanderhome, Hon Atsugi. And I am loving it. Thanks to Kago for the help.

I won't drop my Master Ranger tag. I think I am 1 of a handful of "old Rangers" left on Tempest and I am proud of that fact. I still make decent money mostly because I am dependable, and deliver. But if you want to help me as a Smuggler/Pistoleer on Wanderhome, send me a /tell. Same name, CL 35.

Wether we go 1 way or another as Rangers. It needs to be done. Games bigger (server wise)than this with more people playing are doing it. Yes they have bugs and they have fixes too. Unless it is a very small "hot-fix", most professions are addressed almost every patch. From a company alot smaller than SOE, with fewer resources at thier disposal. They are consistent, and player oriented. I played that game for a bit and it was fun, just not "my story line". But I was impressed by the overall commitment to the players.

If they want to fix bugs, start with the oldest ones first. The ones that are still there from day one that haven't fixed. Example: How long has /areatracked not worked? I don't mean popping spawns, just the fact that you can see the creature but it doesn't show up? But the candles didn't work in the houses, big priority there.

They need to start from Day 1, fix the oldest first. Fire the "Bobbing-head" corporate Yes-men, and get off their backsides and be as commited to the game as the players are.

Trap spamming? Am I missing something? Is this refering to being able to stick the same state over and over without a pause?

Ok, I can see that......with ad-mesh it'd be another P-dart, and we'd be the flavor of the month again. But my question is, how long does it take for a dev to post that? Or how long does it take them to tell Paks or Owen that, so that they can tell us? I'm pretty sure that if I'm right, that this is a new statement, cause if it wasn't then we'd have heard about it before now, right? Or am I wrong?

And as far as camps repelling agro, why not just make the little tents in camps a small portable structure that works like a house. Go inside and bam! creatures can't get in to eat you! Give 'em a door and everything. Hell, Tusken Zealots hide from me in there little tents, and those thing don't even havea door, but I can't kill them, even if I go inside them.

And don't tell me it'd bea jedi exploit or some crap like that. You can already carry a fargin house and drop it at will on some planets.

I don't know.....my crazy ideas I guess.

I've argued the same thing many a time, but usually get the "it would cause too much lag" arguement and "oh, but then they'd have to draw the interior" crap. like one borvo-style camp in the middle of nowhere on dath would cause more lag than a HTFB just because it would have an interior

And you know what, I've been a master ranger since Oct. 2003, yet every week I'm here reading people who've dropped ranger saying that ranger is "broken." I read this and I'm out solo'ing nightsisters on dath or grouped with people hunting and I'm taking the agro because I'm doing the most damage or tracking albatrosses on naboo and I'm thinking, wow - do the people who perpetuate this nonsense even play ranger? And you know what? It turns out they don't - not at all. It seems like every serious thread we have, we have to deal with the tired-old-myth that we're playing a "broken" profession, and the people who keep raising this issue are, with a few exceptions, people who have little or no actual skillpoint investment in ranger.

So from now on, if you guys are going to come in here and spout nonsense, I'm going to start asking to see some credentials. No skillpoints in ranger - sorry, but you have to earn the right to complain, to rave and rant and throw temper tantrums, and it's time some of you guys start earning it.

If you are soloing Nightsisters, I'd have to assume that the skills you are using come from your combat class, since Nightsisters are NPCs. The only possible ranger skills you might be using on the Nightsisters are camoflauge an/or tracking. However, every time I go to Dath, I see a Nightsister ortwo (more like a hundred), so tracking isn't that much of an advantage for them.

Yup, I was a master rifleman so I had the same thing regarding drawing aggro. Of course, I knew how to prevent myself from pulling aggro from my tanks.

Funny how that entire sentence has nothing to do with being a ranger though, except for tracking albatrosses. And tracking albatrosses is no big deal. In fact, having to stop and wait and then pull up my area track probably wasted more of my time at finding albatrosses. I know where they spawn, and I rather just bike around to find them.

Meh, whatever. Next time I see a BH asking for stealth, I guess I just won't reply. I have never been so tempted to agree with those that think rangers should just be removed.

Itson the bug list mate.

There are so many issues with traps that some traps can be spammed, some can only be thrown once and some give insane xp.

The way of creating survival like protection from including a structure in camps is a good idea and one i believe would work. Like so many other great ideas though we have to ask ourselves if the devs would want to do it. I really hope they do and if they ever get around to changing the way that camps work then it could be our answer to fixing that damn leaking roof!
