I think the answer to this question depends on what you think of the chances of getting a revamp.



Revamp comes - this change is bad because it means that camping as a part of the profession isn't as likely to see great improvements given that the xp required is general rather than specific to that tree.


Revamp doesn't come - this change is good because camping is generally a waste of time and a horrible grind.


Personally, I think our chances of a revamp are nil so I think this change is good, although the issue could have been addressed in a better way.



As Calc pointed out, I suspect the Devs took a look at the long standing complaints about the xp required to level the camping line and decided to sort it by making xp gain easier... i.e. use scouting xp instead. Of course, increasing the amount of xp per camp would have been an alternative and (I think) better solution.


You have to feel for them in one sense. Damned if they do try and address an issue and damned if they don't. It does make you wonder though (yet again), why they didn't ask Owen for player feedbackfirst.

How much slower is harvesting going to be? I was under the impression that harvesting was going to be just as fast as it was in the past - what's changing with this?

As it stands, in the current system - harvesting is really fast and easy to get to where you want to go. I can go to dathomir with friends, they fight, and I harvest - I get between 300-1200 experience per shot, and I gain a box within an hour or two easily. heck, the only time consuming thing in the leveling of ranger, currently, is the survival XP - which is painfully easy, just long.

Frankly the survival branches were my favorite and I always felt the campswere the most emblematic and visible part of our professions. Even after mastering ranger I still look for any excuse I can to set up a camp. They serve as great rallying places for the group and everyone wants to play with the gaming table (not so much now that it as been reduced to a loot item ) I also find it very helpful to be able to instantly call up a crafting terminal right next to a factory, yes droids do this now as well but the HTFB is just much cooler than pulling out a droid. This branch needs more emphasis not less IMHO.

You get maybe what 200 Scout xp for killing a white Con in the CU? And the Cons are "enforced", any thing with a Red dot is going to put a hurt on you bad. That's what we are talking about. Scout XP isn't based on its level it is based on how far below or above your it is.

When I popped in to live and cashed in my Scout/Trap XP for FS so I could get data on it and traping XP it was painfully obvious how much faster it is in live.

I don't know what I makes me want to scream more, this Survial XP thing or the painfull state of Scout XP. Both of them is nuts.

The best phrase here is "double-edged sword". We have to consider the two different sides of the implications this could mean:


first of all, now all four of our branches are combat-related. Meaning that a ranger now has more reason to ask for combat mods, more traps etc.

but it also means that you can craft through most of Ranger, which makes us less of a combat profession.


Modular camping is still somewhat my brain child, so I'll protect it as much as I can...but I can also see the positives in this scenario. Perhaps if they removed the fact that crafting granted scout XP?

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

Crafting gives you Survial XP now (CU). Did we piss and moan just to get that? I want something for it.

My guess is this change was based, in part, on the last 2 years of complaining about Survival XP. But, Owen did point out that people had said Scout/Ranger was too slow to level, so instead of adressing the issue with Scout XP, they made more of an issue by adding another line of Scout XP. Frankly, I will have to test this, but I could see how one could level Scout/Ranger more quickly by crafting camps than by actually fighting.

I was with you until the last line. The devs don't make more work for themselves just to spite a profession.




Then, please explain to me the following issue:


* why is that in CU TKA with VK still gets 1H XP ??? This bug existed already BEFORE they did remove the survival xp (and even removed it only partially at first?)


* some problems with pistol xp too I believe (same!)

No, not to piss off the TKAs but to show you why I made my last statement. Why did they change something that is working but needs a little bit of tweaking (maybe) while something else is really broken and should be fixed first.


Isn't the VK's giving 1h XP an unintentional bug?

The one thingI will say is that I don't like the overall change of removing unique XPs. However, if that's the system that they're going to push on combat professions...well, I'm glad we're along for the ride. However, making sure that crafting doesn't supply scout XP is essential. We don't want a be a combat profession you can get by crafting, lol.

The main concern to me Kimi is that this seems like a spur of the moment change with no real reasoning behind it. And strangely they are doing it right when grouping is being encouraged and might come back - which would make the survival xp so much quicker.

I also like the diversity of xp types we have. When I look at the tree now it is just another line of scouting xp I have to get. It makes me feel grumpy the same way having to get all that pistol xp for meaningless smuggler lines made me grumpy.

Ah but if you made crafting give trap xp then you could truly level all of Ranger without combat!
