Thread: Why do we get battle armor from the combat upgrade?

Actually I wrote it here first then copied it to new thread, lol Sorry. I went on TC5 and really, some things are different yet there are some same things still. Have to wait till I can get up into Elites to see how it truly will affect us. I started as TK just to see how melee was, I still owned pretty much everything right out of the gate, with no armor on. Now I'll go through Rifles and such to see exactly how my Char will be affected and then I'll be able to make a better judgement. Lol the toolbar icons are different to say the least, but I'm willing to deal with that. As long as conceal shot and cover work ok, I'll be a happy Ranger. I don't where armor now, and mostly go out unbuffed, I only have 3 articles with BE enhancements and they are all +12 Camo/+12 Mask Scent. If you can hunt this way I really don't think the CU will be much prob for us.

Do you all realize something? I love being a Ranger, and consider this tidbit....

1. A reason for CU is that SWG went to God Characters pretty much after being a very difficult combat system in the first place. This type of play now fits all those people out there that love cheat codes on other games. Since when should anyone be able to walk up to a Rancor and take it down in 10 secs or less?

2. Rangers are "GENERALLY" ranged combat assisted... Meaning your a rifleman etc.... How many Rangers/Hunters do you all know that take a knife or use martial arts to bring down a bear, deer, elk or anything like that? Granted maybe somewhere there are a few that can do it and maybe do, but 99.99999 (you get the picture) are using guns or bows and they are not whering suits of armor. If any of you have been into fantasy books/games what do rangers or hunters usually wear? Leather or some other type of really light armor, non metal mostly. This is how we are able to move quickly and quietly, and not to many look like he-man either. We are like thieves in a forest, sneak up kill quick and take what we can and go. Lets give it a shot. Never know how its going to be/feel till we are in the thick of it and have actually got to know the system. A game is supposed to be a challenge and using your brain to think of ways to do things effectively.

I'm not saying that what happens is going to be exactly what everyone wants or likes, but try it out and then if there are problems see if everyone else if having those probs and if so then go to the devs and explain it. The Devs know that each time there is a major change there is going to be alot of yelling and therefore will ignore most things till people actually try things out and can come to them and tell them with experiance that this is a prob and what their ideas might be for fixing it. The CU is a result of players complaining about the current system and the devs trying to work with their ideas to make it better. Yes, Rangers have had probs but compared to Rifleman, Swordsman, Jedi, Docs, etc their are few of us Rangers to cry out that loud. We'll get our chance, its coming, I have issues I'd like fixed also, but as a true Ranger should be and is.... I'm patient, waiting for the perfect shot.

no, You can wear whatver Armor You Want!!! but! if your a ranger rifleman(cert'd for Recon/Battle) and you put on Assualt Armor, then you will suffer the FULL encumberance and debuff penalties. It will actually hurt you more than help you.

You do not get certs for armor, you get Encumberance mititgation. that is how i understand it.

I'm not sure on this. I think you at least need the basic cert in order to wear the armor, but this can't be tested yet. So a person with no skill points could not wear any armor. I'm not sure I like this but it is how weapons currently work--you can't equip a weapon your not certed for (unlike the current system of low damage).

Why do we need armor, we're not a combat prof.

Hmmm... shouldn't we be able to at least make bone armor for testing seeing that it used to be made by artisans (didn't check on TC what artisans can do)?

Bone armor has been pulled from artisan. Armor is a totaly diferrent ball game now.

I can't find the doc, but the Devs did say it is certed.

But you have to remember everyone else who is a "combat profession" get defensive moves and defensive bonuses, but we don't so even though we get armor it will never make up for what we don't get (the health and defensive bonuses) that "true combat professions" get. So even though it is nice, it will not even come close to making up for what others can and will use against us, and can and will use against creatures and NPCs.

Well Calc, people played on live with the old system and still came up with all sorts of wierd results about the viability of a master ranger / master combat prof vs. some stackertemplate.

Regardless if the actual tests prove if this is right or not , the myth of "master ranger / master combat prof is much weaker for hunting than a stacker template based on the same combat prof" will anyway never die :-).
