I'm not a Ranger myself but I do agree that you need some loving. One thing that I don't understand is why you keep comparing yourselfs to a master scout. The real gap is between Novice Scout hunting 4 and Master ranger. Not a huge difference in harvesting for the 111 points you pay for master ranger. Of course the rest of the skills are useless so there's really not a whole lot of reason to go ranger.

hmm soe must be making plenty of money why cant they hire some more devs. Anyway clear argument to increase ranger harvesting.

-will decrease cost of organics for crafters (leading to amore healthy economy)

-will give rangers the ability to harvest more than hardcore combat characters (increase the amount of rangers and the enjoyment of playing a ranger)

oh i forgot, devs dont want more rangers. The increases of complaintsmight force themto do something to fix ranger.

I'm not going to fanfest either, but I have a feeling that the 'devs' won't be devs for that very fearful reason. They'll probably be actors, because hey, you don't have to knowmuch about the gameto be a dev, we've seen that already. My question for the devs would be, "Whytf aren't you working? Stop listening to these questions you don't have the answers to and go back to coding" but that's just me. =/

I am up far too late, so I apologize if this post goes awry. I have gotten direct feedback from TH.
  • Will camps ever heal BF? Camps healing BF will remove the need for a cantina. Probably won't happen (as was stated by NRaas).
  • TH also told me that while we are not slated for any work prior to publish 10 (from JustG's letter), if we want to affect a change we need to go to him with a clear arguement as to why something neweds a change (wich we are doing in the Oye...Harvesting Again thread). If we can convince him of the need (and I warn you, he is hard...he has almost made me cry twice ) he will work on getting the change implemented. We need to be positive that was have covered every aspect of the idea/change thoroughly.
  • He never said DON'T post on other forums to ge their support. So, I guess we can proceed as planned on the monkey thing. I am glad we got Delta to sign off on it.
  • This is unofficial as of right now: The devs really liked the Camp section of the Outdoorsman proposal. They have not said whether they will or won't implement it, but they do imply that it will be a very daunting task (you can decide what that means.

It's not much, but it is much more informative than not getting any feedback. So, we keep trudging ahead, and we will try to bring about change using clear arguements. Thanks for bearing with me guys. Let's kep trying to mke Ranger a better place to live!

This is laughable! A start? When?

Camps won't heal BF, big surprise there. Why would they ever make camps useful? Are the esteemed developers aware of the fact that the only people using cantina's are legions of AFK holo hoarding macroers? Last time I went into a cantina(months ago), I was the only non-entertainer - surrounded by seething masses of people who weren't even playing the game. BF healing in camps would make Cantina's useless? Since when were they useful?

Not slated for any work prior to publish 10. Well...doesn't that jsut make you feel so warm and fuzzy inside. Calculus, have you explained to TH how incredibly happy we are that garbage NPC's are being overhauled? Yep, I'm glad that's a higher priority then making the Ranger class actually do something, anything. We all know garbage scavengers are much more important then us.

Oh, the best part, "If we can convince him of the need he will work on getting the change implemented. We need to be positive that was have covered every aspect of the idea/change thoroughly".

Oh.

I see.

I ask you Thunderheart, WHAT THE **edit** DO YOU THINK WE'VE BEEN DOING SINCE JULY? SITTING ON OUR **edit**ING THUMBS???. A brief look through these forums will yeild literally tons of incredibly well though out suggestions, arguments, and discussions - en masse. I dare say more-so then any other place in the SWG forums. We've been collectively crying our hearts out for months apparently in vain on these forums and now you tell us we need a clear argument? Why are we paying you again?

But oh, they really like the camp section...but what's that you say? It'll be a very daunting task and they may or may not implement it? Well then. I'm sure we'll have fun waiting for that one, just like everything else they've hinted at/promised. Brings back memories of the promised mystical 'tracking' skill, anyone still remember that one? Do we have it yet? That's right.

Once again, SOE is just squirelling out of doing anything by hinting at maybe, possibly, if Saturn and the moon are somehow properly aligned they might give us something eventually. You know, if they're not too busy or anything and get bored someday. AND they have the nerve to come back and actually ask us for a 'clear argument'. The one thing we have been providing ceaselessly.

No offense Calculus, but this isn't a start. This is the same crap that's been regurgitated to Rangers time after time.

Perhaps the evidence that TH seeks could be provided in a simple poll...

We just set it up on the web and post a message in every profession forum, asking them very nicely to go and respond to it.

The question?

What is the most "useless" profession in the game?

I would be willing to bet a large sum of cash that it'll be a close run between"Squad Leader andRanger" as the winner.

To be honest, I think a large problem is that most people don't know we're broken. Those that do don't care. (That includes the devs)

I was talking to a friend of mine yesterday, and as I was telling him about the problem he says to me 'I had no idea Rangers had problems'. He's been playing pretty much since launch.

Another friend of mine today laughed when I got a camp out 'I don't need that, I'm TKA' he says, 'why do you bother with camps at all?'. I told him I liked the profession, and I'm slowly doing frontiering 4. 'Just drop it and do something else if it's broken' was his response.

So there you go, ignorace and apathy, our two greatest problems.

As a side note by the way, I'm also partly squad leader. My second friend told the other TKA he was with 'let's group and make him leader - it help us', the response? 'Squad leader? What's that? What do you do?'

It makes me wonder how many people join the game, then just do the 'cool' professions that everyone else is doing -and have no clue what anyone else does, how they do it, or what effect they have on the game.

"a clear cut argument why it needs change?"

my friends, if they don't already see and agree with our Top 5, we might as well give up, becauseit seems Ranger is less-then-useful not by flaw, but by designer intent!

...

sorry for ranting, but this news really makes me just wanna give up and cancel it all, because you know we're not gonna get anything ever, let alone in the next 2 months to publish 10.

This was my reaction as well. We can talk and argue about it all we want, but if they actually believe that ranger is a useful profession right now, then they won't change it. Perhaps what we really need is for everyone to just drop it and move on. I suppose in a way it is difficult for us to argue the uselessness of ranger and at the same time we cling to it. If it's so useless why do we have it? (thinking from their perspective).

I also find it particularly disturbing that they liked the *camping* part of the outdoorsman proposal. To me that was the weakest part of the proposal, and the one that would make the least impact to us.

I am prone to agree with the rest of the rangers whenthey say WE ARE GETTING IGNORED. We are, plain and simple. We have sent suggestion after suggestion after suggestion, only to have the cheep excuse that they are "incomplete." What part of the outdoorsman proposal is incomplete? What part of the other proposals and suggestions are incomplete? If they can't figure out how to implement those, then they need to rethink their jobs as developers. We shouldn't have to do the jobs we so happily pay them 15$ a month for them. But I don't believe that is the case. I believe they are simply ignoring us. Why I could not say, but it is true. And of course there is the point that no other profession has had to provide complete and organized ways to fix their "broken" professions, they have just whined til they got their way. Anyone notice that we are the ONLY profession that is constantly getting shot with that gun? I myself am a ranger at heart, loving killing creatures and enjoying the beauty of the outdoors, and yet between the "L33t d00ds" and lack of spawns anywhere besides within a stones throw of towns, even that has become too difficult. And with player cities springing up everywhere and speeders allowing people to cross entire planets in under a half hour, the wilderness is not much of a wilderness anymore. And with buffs, camps are never used as people don't want to waste time sitting around doing nothing when they could be earning a few more credits. I will stay and count myself as a loyal ranger to the end, but I am beginning to think that isn't too far down the road.

Just so you know, you can still go out in the wilderness and find spawns. Just pick a less populated planet. Yavin IV, Endor, Dathomir, Rori, Talus, etc. (probably in that order for a compromise between fun and number of other players although Yavin IV is getting a bit crowded near the Geonosian Dungeon and Endor will be getting crowded when the Deathwatch Bunker opens).
