a bow doesn't seem right in star wars, maybe a bow caster type thing, but not bows and arrows, save those for the middle ages

Seriously... a bow?!? Ah come on guys... like a bow has a chance of hitting some of those heavy scaled critters out there? No way...

Keep this a SUPPLEMENT profession... not a combat profession...

It would certainly add more uniqueness to the profession, but come on... let us get some more traps instead of a weapon...

- Well there have been suggestions of armor piercing arrows, or explosive heads and such to get around such impediments.

- I agree, the bow idea is way out there, but its a very cool idea...

- Whether the concept ever gets implemented is a different question entirely.

Sure N'Rass it looks futuristic... but I'm still onto keeping this a supplement profession, not a combat profession.

We got our trapping line, which soon will be renewed, and actually there will come more in time... I'm sure on that. But adding a bow would make me feel... I don't know... playing a fantasy setting not a sci-fi setting. I'm sure I could accept the bow... but then it should be in another tree... not the ranger...

Adding a bow or other weapon to ranger, would releash some skill points, that would be good... but honestly... if a bow should be addet make it middle ranged (max 48 meters or something), and that would be a bad thing for PvP. Now I know some of you might say that ranger is not for PvP... and you're right on that. But I've picked up a combat class so I can fight both creatures and humanoids... honestly... hunting for hours and hours is very tiresome... And who can say no to shoot a imp?

" if a bow should be addet make it middle ranged (max 48 meters or something), and that would be a bad thing for PvP."

- Actually one of the caveats that was suggested was that bows were only usable against creatures.

What they should be doing, IMO, is generating more loot type items geared towards classes. What abouta ranger class rifle thats superior to whats out there but only comes as a loot drop? A rare loot drop. Thats one of my biggest problems with the game thus far, is that there is no TREASURE. No incentive to go out and hunt other than strictly for XP so you can get levels and better combat moves so you can go out and get even more XP.

I would like to see someone strutting into town wearing a leafy, full camo duster with +20 to camoflage skill (complete with branches and scrub) padded bootswith a bonus to conceal and a ranger only rifle with a 4 ft long barrel, silencer and a scope the size of a coffee can. At least that way there might be a little diversity and a reason to go kill one moretusken raider....

Personally, I love the idea of a bow. It doesnt even have to shoot arrows... look at the bowcaster.

Bows were a very effective first strike tool which in many ways we are. Bows could not be used solo on the battlefield as they were a compliment to heavy arms and mounted soldiers.

You will still need to be accompanied by the skills for up-close fighting, but Rangers (IMHO) need a distinctive look that sets us apart.

Because really, if I am in a group, and I have a pistol/carbine/rifle, even with my +100 creature bonus, I look like any other pistoleer/carbineer/rifleman shooting. I may hit more, but in reality, I don't feel any different or unique from them.

Plus a bow could be silent and not attract mobs. Blasters and commando type weapons are very loud and attract a lot of attention. Maybe this could be something to add to the Ranger stealth and sneakiness...

Sure it would add some interesting aspect of hunting... but still...

I don't need to look unique, have a unique weapon to feel I'm a ranger, I know I'm a ranger, and that's what count.

For those that want to say "Hey I'm a ranger, look at me", use the tittle system

Okay that was perhaps a little evil, but couldn't resist...

I'm not too big on the bow idea, but why on earth would it only work on creatures?

An arrow is an arrow. It will skewer a person just as well as it will a womprat.

Explosive arrows only blow up on critters?

I would be for the bow idea if it were something similar to the Wookie bowcaster, but we are not really a combat profession. Why should we get a class specific weapon when Doctors and Entertainers don't get a class specific weapon?

I wouldn't mind a weapon that allows me to fire my area effect traps at a single creature instead of attacking the whole herd.

At first, as a rifleman/ranger i really liked this idea.

Having said that though

I do like the idea of a Hunting Bow though, as an Archer in real life, i would love it. It would go with the whole profession. We are hunters people, we harvest the resources of critters.

It should be gained at only Master Ranger and should only be able to be crafted by master rangers, and everything to go with it. I think we should stick to a compound bow seeing as it is the future and all. It should also have the use that it can only be used against Critters (like traps)

The arrows, require bone (shaft) & hide (feathers)metal (for arrow head and knock)

The bows, require metal (compound wheels) bone (main bow structure) hide (for compound string) and timeber for the bow arms.

Any use of this weapon would be on a concealed state (makes no noice except the thump when it hits the target)

And as for the people saying we are a "support profession" technically we are, but the idea that a Master Ranger cant kill something in his own right, is down right crazy.

Anyways, i love being a Ranger and something liek this would just make it even better. I spend hours on hours hunting stuff and the addition of bow would be cool!!

"but why on earth would it only work on creatures?"

- The idea is to not impinge on the other professions with a heavily unbalancing weapon.

- Consider all the various types of arrows that have been suggested (Explosive, Freezing, Shocking, Flaming, etc).

- The idea that one weapon would be able to do any damage type available (though only one type at a time) is quite unbalancing.

- Anyways, if we decided to have it affect anything else, it would not be considered a pure Ranger weapon (which was the initial intent of the idea).
