Owen-Lars, it seems a bit premature to gather this info since we have no way of knowing what the total impact on the Ranger line isseeing thatnobody can play one yet (unless you know something you aren't telling us). It's apparent that even basic combat is pretty messed up right now andknowinghow the Elite professions are going to play/work is beyond us.
Don't get me wrong, I love the Ranger line and I don't want to see it hurt at all. I just don't want to hit the panic button just yet.
Please do not take offense. None is intended. Thank you for all of your hard work!
(thought that I would add that my combat alt is a Master Ranger/Master Rifleman since that's not apparent from my sig)

I believe if you drop ranger and dont pick it up after the CU goes live (the skill reallocation stage) you wont be able to have another reallocation when the revamp hits.
The CU reallocation hasnt been nailed down yet but they are thinking about having a 1 week or a few days 'trial' period where you can see what template you like etc, then you have to make a choice for good. Ranger 'should' (by this i mean people should be able to reallocate to and from ranger if they wish) be included in the respec list but only as part of the CU rellocation. If you dont pick it up then, you wont get another respec come the ranger revamp.

In regards tothe CU and the information that has come out(or lack thereof),will you be dropping ranger?Likely - or at best cut down to 0/0/3/0.Why are/arn'tyou dropping it?The return on skill point investment just isn't worth it---and is even less so when I can master BH in the CU for fewer points. We currently get tracking and a bonus to harvesting---that's about it. Camo breaks more often than mask (even with BE clothes for +125...and it yields less XP), we get only one good trap, and camps are pointless. I've already been forced to cannibalize my currentranger because it isn't possible to participate in high-end content with my preferred combo of MR/MCH.Is it only temporary until the revamp?Possibly. I love being a ranger and it pained me to drop MR. The things I've wanted to do since SWG beta were ranger and CH (which I am also likely dropping). Bottom line is it's all a question of whether I can participate in any content and whether the skill point investment is worth it. If the ranger revamp makes it worth the investment, I'll probably come back.

I would stay ranger, but there is no way i would be a master ranger.
Why are/arn'tyou dropping it?
1: I am too stubborn to drop it completely, but dropping it would be inevitable if it stopped being fun.
2: I like the idea of being a ranger much more than i like being a ranger in SWG.
3:I like being able to track and be an effective hunter.
4: However, with rangers being gimped in their hunting ability with no innate combat protection, no offensive ability or defensive abilities, no creativity or useful traps beyond the ones in scout, camo being only slightly better than mask scent, camps are outdated and useless eye candy, we have no reason to be a ranger other than higher harvesting rates to service crafters.
5: If i want to be an elite hunter, it would serve me better to only dabble in scout, and no more.
6: It kills me to even think of this, but if the changes to ranger in the CU are permanent, I would eventually leave ranger completely because it would not be fun to be a ranger.
Is it only temporary until the revamp?
Depends on the revamp.

i'm gonna sneak a question for Owen in here because i have no idea where to post it...and i'll probably get stoned for asking:
For us current MasterRangers, who just cannot handle sacrificing our gameplay post CU just to 'wait it out', can i get a freebie Re-Re-Allocation of SP when our Revamp Hits?
i'm not dead set on having this, because it may be pretty fun to progress threw a new an successfully improved ranger profession, but, even so, would this be at all possible?

Not unless they drop the prof all together.
Why are/arn't you dropping it?
Because this is the only profession in the entire galazy that can hold my interest. I'm about 30k away from my MR tag and when I get it, they'll have to pry it off my cold dead head before I give it up. Unless of course, they force it completely out of the game. In which case, as goes Ranger, so go I.
Is it only temporary until the revamp?
After the "supposed" revamp is another story.
First of all, thanks Owen & JB for keeping the Rangers and Scouts in the fight. I would like to know however if you think the devs are even paying attention? Is any of the noise we're making working or do you think it will have any effect at all?

They most certainly know and have access to documentation highlighting the plight we are in and the situation we are going to be in post-cu. Whether anything will be done is another question but im optimistic.
Tiggs helped me pass my report onto the team and try get some answers to the questions i asked. Hopefully she can get something worth writing about and the report show all the higher powers just exactly whats its like to be a ranger these days. They all know we need a revamp, the problem is, they dont understand how much we need it and with the cu, how much more we need it now that ever.
We are the most gimped class in the game, hands down, and i will ask anyone who disagrees with this to say so and explain why we are not. After the CU things get tonnes worse, and on top of that our revamp is not even on the design table yet. This needs to change. Because of us not being in the CU, we need our revamp asap (more than any other profession) and right after the CU, this is what i have been pointing out and thinkthe reportdefinatly does its job.
Like i said, tiggs asked me to email her a copyofthe reportas i asked for her help.Hopefully she is doing all she can and the devs will realisejust what a crappy situation we are in.

Nope. Keeping Ranger as long as there is a Ranger Profession to keep. With its bugs and it's shortcomings and all, it is still the funnest time I've had in SWG. < Long live the GRM!! >
Why are/arn'tyou dropping it?
Ranger has the potential to be one of the most fun and challengingadventurers in the game. Reading all the Revamp docs on the Ranger forums only confirms that fact.
Is it only temporary until the revamp?
Look forward to the Ranger Revamp and hope it will compensate for any shortcomings caused rangers by the CU.
Bottom Line: I have to agree with Plunk: I'm Ranger until there is no Ranger and then I'm gone from SWG. That was the attraction of SWG when I first started: I could play in the Star Wars Universe and be allowed to play the way I like to play. Taking Ranger away severly limits the things that I like to do... ergo.. I'll move on.
Irdrach Harl - Master Ranger / TKM <> Bloodfin
HalfPenny Hero - Scout / Brawler (on the way to Master Ranger / TKM) <> Wanderhome
Ashmark DustinThewind - Scout / Marksman (on the way to Master Ranger / Rifleman) <>Test Center
Billee Clark - Scout / Marksman ( on the way to Master Ranger / Pistoleer? if SP's allow) <> TC5
Thanks Owen, for keeping your finger on the pulse of the Ranger Profession ![]()

Ok i hate to say this, but i need to make a poll heh. Yes i know, i know but honestly its important. I need to show the devs exactly how much negative impact the CU is going to have on ranger and why ranger needs their revamp asap.
Its going to be part of my report that im writing atm explaining why so many of us are pissed, upset that we didnt get any attention and how concerned we are about what is geing to happen to ranger between the end of the CU up until the ranger revamp hits.
So i put it to you:
In regards tothe CU and the information that has come out(or lack thereof),will you be dropping ranger?
No.
Why are/arn'tyou dropping it?
I'm too stubborn to give up something i worked so hard for. Though i will Raise you know what about it depending on the sp reductionsand or ham bonuses.
Is it only temporary until the revamp?
uhh......... guess i can't answer this one lol
Please answer truthfully about your current plans.
cheers, owen

1. In regards to the CU and the information that has come out (or lack thereof), will you be dropping ranger?
- Yes, I probably will. Pending a complete over-haul and making Rangers relevant.
2. Why are/aren't you dropping it?
- Because of the lack of skills vs. the amount of skill point needed (to acquire, uhm, no skills...). Also because it seems that the skills I do use are easily accessible as a MasterScout (except for camo, which I don't use because it lasts about as long as 2-3 maskscents and uses up materials to do so).
3. Is it only temporary until the revamp?
- I'll tell you the honest truth... I've been patient, and I've been advocating patience all together. But for the last 6 months, I've been playing this game a) first, to master Ranger, and b) second, to eventually have access to my Jedi. I feel that 6 months worth of playing should be rewarded (and I don't mean with a mini C-3PO or R2-D2), and the CU will hurt vets while infusing the game with fun for noobs. In the end, I feel a little bit burned out and the thought of working even longer AND harder to be a Jedi, and coupling that with the fact that my Ranger will now be at an even BIGGER disadvantage (skill points vs. skill wise) than it was before... and it's making me want to quit SWG altogether.
I don't feel like burning out for a game. I play video games as an outlet to my RL, as a way of relaxing and having fun. If I had known that online games make people hate and get angry at each other, I wouldn't signed up in the first place. As I understand that this is a product like any other, I may opt for quitting. I get the feeling that the CU will attract as many people as it will alienate (I believe it was designed to do so, to get new blood and new players, thus reducing the amount of friction between us and the DEVS), and this makes me feel a little bit pissed. I feel like they're purposefully voiding pretty much everything vets have worked for in exchange for a fresh fleet of new players. That way they don't have to deal with unhappy costumers for another 6-8 months...
Or maybe I'm just dead tired and feel a little bit bitter. Who knows.

1. I guess technically I'm not dropping it.
2. I've cancelled 4 accounts, my Ranger and Smuggler characters have probably seen the most neglect, which is a shame since I love both professions. But they just aren't as fun as they used to be and I use my Ranger mostly to supply my doctor. My Ranger is tied to my Jedi account, which has about 3 weeks left before it goes into stasis. Heck, I could easily outharvest my Ranger character with my Jedi with a little bit of scout. Maybe that's because Ranger isn't a combat profession.
3. What revamp?

Why are/arn'tyou dropping it? Mostly because of the health issue. I really don't feel like getting gimped hardcore. I'm also going Jedi, and Ranger probably isn't the best way to go for that.
Is it only temporary until the revamp? Well, that depends. From some of the stuff that other profession are getting, I'm finding it hard to see how we'll be changed. A lot of ideas from this forum seem to be going into other professions so that scares me.

I will answer your question this way. I am done grinding and if ranger is nerfed with no real revamp in sight then i willtry to find a game as fun as thisone has been. The only thing im really worried about is after the CU the devsmay betrying torid the game of bugs and glitches due to all of the new code. Sothe Ranger revamp may getpushed further and further back. just my 2 cents.
