In regards to the CU and the information that has come out (or lack thereof), will you be dropping ranger?
No, even though I am unhappy with what has been shown in the CU so far, I am proud of being a Master Ranger and have been one for over 16 months. I'll leave the game before I drop Master! Unfortunately this is looking more and more likely unless things change.

Why are/arn't you dropping it?
I chose to be a Master Ranger on Day 1, thats June 26th, 2003! So why should I drop a profession that I play for and pay for. Once again the question is not "Will you drop Ranger?" it is, "Will you quit SWG?"

If I am forced to drop Ranger to be a competitive combatant I will leave this game with a broken heart. I love this game and hope over the next two months the CU will shape up to make this game great but if it gimps Rangers in the proccess I will seriously consider giving up on this game.

Is it only temporary until the revamp?
It all depends on the communication given to us by the devs. If Ranger is gimped by the CU and the devs do not acknowledge it and just tell us to keep waiting for a revamp soon(tm) I think I would lose it.

On the other side of the coin if A revamp was promised within a resonable timeframe and our concerns were addressed, yes I could hold out with a gimped toon for a short while. How long that "short while" is has yet TBD...

OK I took what NerfBurger wrote. But it is exactly what I would have written. Your right, I'm lasy .

In regards tothe CU and the information that has come out(or lack thereof),will you be dropping ranger?

I will most likely be dropping Ranger since from a early beta point of view being a solo harvesting hunter wont be viable since we get no bonus to health and not being considered a combat profession, disregarding the fact that we have to fight creatures and hunt to utilize our profession.

Why are/arn'tyou dropping it? I am most likely dropping it because : I understand that grouping is very encouragedand most Rangers have always enjoyed running across Endor killing and harvesting as we needed. This odd new bonus to for groups in regards to a regen or toughness bonus(not sure what to call it) makes me feel that I just wont be able to hunt efficiently anymore. Its boring harvesting 100k wooly hide for armorsmiths. Why would anyone who isnt grinding a profession want to tag along with me as I hunt? This forces the return of the solo group. Also, I for one HATE running back and forth to mission terminals. Unless I am extremely broke I never do it.Many players wont enjoy just wandering around the deserts of Endor since due to spawn issues somedays there is plenty of stuff to kill, somedays there isnt anything. Unless we get a boost to health and are a bit hardier in nature against creatures then hunting for resources is going to get alot more difficult and rare.

Is it only temporary until the revamp? Honestly, the revamp would have to be pretty good for me to want to work through Ranger yet again. We are combat oriented. We fight creatures constantly. Our traps are used in combat against creatures, our camps are used to heal wounds we get from fighting creatures, our camo is used to protect us from creatures we may not want to fight. And all these items we can craft we gather resources from creatures that we have to kill in combat! We need to get a health bonus equivalent to that of Doc or a Master combat profession like Rifleman. The skillpoints involved in getting Master Ranger is just making the profession more useless if its going to be that much harder to harvest resources. Ignoring Ranger yet again is a slap in the face to many SWG and Ranger profession dedicated players.

Okay, theres my response. You can snip out the bitter parts here and there.. lol.

Other points I think should be made. I know they are gearing up for making the game GCW and pvp oriented but people will still have to fight creatures and I think they are ignoring Rangers since we just have nothing to offer against npc's and other players. Basing the definition of combat profession on what you can do against other players and npc's is just wrong. Master Docs are in the combat list. Why? They sink just as many skill points as we do yet they get bonuses and they have no fighting skills. SOE just wants them to be in battle for buffs, rezing and what not. Kinda like keeping a cleric tagging along with you and your group so you can get heals and minibuffs as you fight.

Master Doc got a new revamp now since they are majorly affected removing the majority of buffs in the game. Why is Ranger being ignored again? There isnt anything to change in there cause there never has been! We need a use besides being Master Harvestors! If you are a Master Ranger and know what your doing you know you are out there to fight creatures. We are extremely combat oriented more so than Doctors except that we deal exclusively with creatures. I am honestly pretty upset and for the first time in a long time considering dropping out of the game for good. Thats not a threat just honestly how i feel. The thing that bothers me most is that they are just trying to incorporate everything from EQ2 into SWG since someone at the top of the corporate ladder things EQ2 is cream of the crop.If I wanted to play EQ2 I would go play it. The reason I left despite many of my guildmates playing there was because I couldntdo anything solo! Yet again, I understand the push for grouping but when you play at odd hours or your goals are different than others then grouping just isnt a viable option.

I can appreciate they need to focus on other things first but for 2 years now we have dealt with this not quite broken but useless profession and still get ignored majorly.

We need a revamp and we need it now.

New home of SWG Rangers!

In regards to the CU and the information that has come out (or lack thereof), will you be dropping ranger?
I don't know if I will keep Ranger or not. I certainly won't be Master on my main character again in the foreseeable future, but I will keep at least some Ranger skills. One of my TC characters will remain a Ranger and will be worked towards MR, but only after he gets a decent combat skill as that is now more than ever necessary.

Why are/arn't you dropping it?

Because I'm a RANGER??

But seriously, I need the skill points to allow me to do other things so dropping part is the best(?) of two options. With so many of the specials and certification for my weapon class being tied to the upper tiers, I have to keep that at master. So, if cuts have to be made, it's going to be the rest of trapping, camping and probably leaving myself with only Tracking III

Is it only temporary until the revamp?

That would very much depend on what the revamp offered and what the state of the game was.

If I'm brutally honest here, if the CU results in it becoming necessary to group to just do day to day things, or the NPC/player balance isn't seriously adjusted, I doubt I'd be staying in game at all for much longer.

I play to have FUN, simply making it harder to get XP from doing the same things as before and making it necessary to get MORE XP before your character is viable, isn't adding 'fun'. It's making my hobby into work.

If the ranger revamp is scheduled to go live more than one month after the CU goes live then most certainly yes. Will still have my tc toon.
Why are/arn't you dropping it?
Not worth the skill points, doesnt give any moderate benefits to the template, becomes a 140 skill point hole as soon as i hit an npc or player.
Is it only temporary until the revamp?
Of course, that is however, if the revamp delivers on addressing our primary issues. If not then i wont be in swg any longer.

Yeah, what you said. Ditto for me. I've been a f'n Master Ranger since Dec of 2003 and I have held out hope that they would get around to making this profession worthwhile. I can honestly say I have held on to it because of the rarity of it. You don't see too many Rangers and it suits my playstyle. I don't PvP. I spend a majority of my time in game helping others. I am not a loot whore. I don't care about money. I don't care about UBER weapons. I just want to help other players reach their goals. I am sick and tired of NO attention being paid to this profession. It took them all of a year and a half to give us a frickin bonus to our harvesting!!! There is no excuse for that. I have stayed because of the hope that Ranger would get a revamp, but another year.....I'm not that patient. Give us the revamp now or let this profession die in peace. But don't for the love of god make us suffer any longer.

In regards tothe CU and the information that has come out(or lack thereof),will you be dropping ranger? No, I won't be dropping

Why are/arn'tyou dropping it?

Like others, I'm probably too stubborn to drop and will "wait it out" for a bit to see what happens.

Is it only temporary until the revamp?

I need to know that we are getting a revamp and I need to know what that revamp will consist of. I like ranger, but with every change I feel that it is becoming less a viable option for happy gaming.

On a different note: I like being a Ranger. The community here is awesome, the sense of comraderie is great. The feeling (and knowledge) that there are more Jedi out there than me also gives that sense of uniqueness. Every time I drop a HTFB for someone who's never seen one ("oooh...")puts a smile on my face. I'm willing to wait until the CU to see how I will fit into this new world. However, I have lots of reservations. I'm worried that because of my uniqueness I won't be able to function as well as others. The combat won't be what makes or breaks the game for me. It will be how Ranger fits into the new game. And I fear that there's going to be some breaking.

Oh... and the new icons suck monkey balls.

In regards tothe CU and the information that has come out(or lack thereof),will you be dropping ranger?

I said i would never drop ranger because that is what i am. Instead of dropping ranger i would drop the game and i might drop the game if wrongs are not righted.

Why are/arn'tyou dropping it?

I have made my game play around ranger. Ranger is who and what i am.

Is it only temporary until the revamp?

If SOE wants to keep my business then they better get this out fast and not have some useless crap to in it.

In regards to the CU and the information that has come out (or lack thereof), will you be dropping ranger?

I will be dropping all Ranger and most scout skills.

Why are/arn't you dropping it?

Skill point cost is way too high fot the benefits. To take part in guild activities without being a liability I will need a higher Health rating and higher combat rating.

Is it only temporary until the revamp?

Hopefully - I'll see what the revamp brings. Ideally I'd like to be Master Ranger again, as it was the first (or second) elite profession I ever mastered in the game, and the one I have enjoyed playing the most

In regards tothe CU and the information that has come out(or lack thereof),will you be dropping ranger?

- Sadly, yes.

Why are/arn'tyou dropping it?

- If things stay situation normal in regards to ignored CU concerns, disregard for our patience and attempts to help make our profession be a viable and playable one, and patches to other aspects of game that make us more and more obsolete- there would be no reason to stay a ranger. I love the Ranger life and community but a crippled and dying set of skills are not a reward for our playing and money.

Is it only temporary until the revamp?

- Revamp? Where be the information about this revamp you speak of...in Forum 51? Rumors, innuendo and cigarrette smoking devs are all part of the conspiracy to keep the woodsmen down. Trust no revamp.

Seriously though, a ranger revamp in the near futurewould solidify the games hold on my checkbook and time. These are the things you want SOE? Perhaps we can make a deal...

Unfortunately and definately yes

Why are/arn'tyou dropping it?

The investment/reward ratio is severly out of wack. Health issue. Being a gimp of this magnitude just IS NOT fun, and FUN is the ONLY reason I pay to play this game.

Is it only temporary until the revamp?

Completely dependent on what the revamp brings. If Ranger remains nothing but a mobile harvestors and Non-Combat oriented, I will not return to my favorite and chosen profession. Ranger in its current form doesn't even closely resemble any published description of this profession. I am a purely combat oriented player, while out of necessity I do have a crafter toon, i hate playing it, and only do so to finance more combat. Ranger was an avenue for income through combat, post sologroup nerf.

In regards tothe CU and the information that has come out(or lack thereof),will you be dropping ranger?

Yes, I will drop master at least (again!).

Why are/arn'tyou dropping it?

Even though it was the first elite prof I mastered (and the third and the fourth), it just is not worth the skill points or impotency of the profession. We started out neutered and that hasn't changed for the better by one iota. There was a glimmer of hope back in August of '03, but that went nowhere fast and then we found out that /maskScent and /camoflouge aren't supposed to work on NPCs at all.

Is it only temporary until the revamp?

It will be temporary if the state of the profession as it currently stands is not permanent, i.e. if the revamp seriously addresses what feel like permanent profession issues.

Basically, my plan is to cap out all of the Scout/Ranger experience types as a Master Ranger so that I don't have to worry about losing any. Then I'll drop whatever skill boxes (and possibly the whole Ranger profession) that seem to be the least useful for my character and use those to finish mastering carbineer and grab some more Creature Handler skills. If/when the revamp comes around, I'll re-evaluate my template, dropping what I find least useful about CH and/or Carbineer and take the most useful Ranger skills. Even after all this, I couldn't be any happier if I had to drop all of the skills I'd just built up and take Master Ranger all over again because it's finally the profession it should have been (and was described to be in the manual and such) from the day the game went live, when I started my long trek towards MR.

From the moment I read the description of the Ranger profession before I got into Beta 2, I knew that it was the role for me and, like many, many others, I've only hung on this long because of stubbornness, too much patience, and a naive hope. If it weren't for Jump to Lightspeed, those would have run already, but I'm onlya few boxes from Alliance Ace, so I don't think I'll be wearing my Master Ranger tag for very much longer.

I personaly won't drop it after the CURB just out of being stuborn and knowing i'll somehow have a fun time playing.

Why are/arn'tyou dropping it?

Fromwhen i got this gamei knew i wanted to be a Ranger, it just took me all this time to get to it. (i took a detour that lead me through most other proffesions.)

Is it only temporary until the revamp?

I'll answer that when the revamp comes along. Till then i'll be aimlessly running away from critters in the mountains of Talus.

No, I'm not dropping Ranger.

Why? Because to me it's about having fun, not about how many skill points it takes to do something. I love Ranger, and I can still master a combat profession. All players will be getting basic stims. At this point I'm not worried, and won't drop it just because of a SP expenditure.

Yes, I would love a revamp. BUt I don't think dropping Ranger will speed the revamp up.
