OK, I'll admit I'm not a fan of "Hollow" Rangers, but CreditGrubber's post does have a place on the Ranger forums. It was informative and relative to our profession, even if most of us don't approve of grinding through it.

It could also be posted on the Scout and Bounty Hunter forums, since it is relative to them as well. I'm sure future Bounty Hunters who haven't mastered Scout yet still read the Bounty Hunter forum like Scouts read the Ranger forums to see what's ahead for them.

The reason most rangers get upset about this is because this is the proffession we chose. We chose it because this is the kind of stuff we love to do, possibly in real life as well. We didn't have some box tell us to become this because we had too. I think a lot of the rangers here get pissed because we have played this for fun and have had to suffer(suffering) through some pretty lame skill trees but we stick with it because we like it. Then to have some one come in and basically proclaim how to get by our proffession like it is some sort of speed bump in the way. So excuse most of us if we do not open your grind with open arms. Maybe the reason people are leaving this game enmass is because they are too worried about grinding and dont take the time to actually play the game and experience the vast worlds that are out there.

It is indeed good information for Holo Rangers...

  • But you mustunderstand that the Elders of this forum do not enjoy interlopersbelittling their chosen profession.

I think that the title of this post is an indication to the "Elders" of this forum that this thread is not for them. Why they are even reading it, let alone taking the time to ninja star it when they are clearly not the intended audience is beyond me. What the ranger elders need to realise is that their approach to the ranger system is not the only approach. They also need to understand that "Holo Rangers" are a part of this game.

I can understand some of the sentiment from the ranger elders. My character is a TKM and the Holo TKs have invaded the TK forum too. Yet I have learned that while those posts are rarely helpful to me in any way, they are helpful to other people who are trying to play the game the way they choose to.

Some of the first few responses ask the original poster if he is having fun. I don't think that's really the issue. I am currently a holo ranger and I can say that I'm not having a whole lot of fun with this one. Different strokes for different folks, right? Understand that I created a character that I truly enjoyed to play. I was a Master TK, Master Brawler, Novice Fencer, Swordsman, and Pikeman. Grinding scout was easy for me because I could just walk up to, say, an aggressive piket on dantooine and throw traps at it all day long because it couldn't hit me with my melee defense so high. But now that I'm halfway through the ranger skill and i've had to drop everything but master TK, I can't stand toe-to-toe with those pikets anymore. It sucks to see my character gimped like this.

But this is the way I have chosen to play the game. I am an achievement style player. My "fun" comes when I ding Master Ranger, open another holo, and move onto the next thing. I don't think I'll even enjoy playing a jedi all that much, but when I open that slot, I will get the satisfaction that comes from knowing that I busted my freaking heiney and got rewarded for it. I like to set goals for my character and opening the FSS is pretty much the biggest goal in the game.

If you "Elder" rangers here have a problem with briefly sharing the title of Master Ranger with the likes of me, take consolation from the fact that the sharing of this title WILL be brief, and that I will never be the Master Ranger you are. I will not know the ins and outs of the profession as you do. I will not know when to use what trap on what creature, for example. But keep in mind that I consider my approach to Master Ranger every bit as valid as yours. It may not be the best approach to this profession, but it will ultimately be the most common one.

This thread is not for you, Elder Master Ranger. But it is helpful to alot of people who come here for the same reason I do. I'm not giving this thread five stars, because I got nothing new out of it. I've seen all this information in other threads. But I am giving it 4 stars because it would have been helpful to me if there was such a thread when I first started grinding this profession.

This is a great thread. Yes it may make elder rangers upset but think about it for a minute. Would you rather have holo rangers, like myself, posting questions on a daily bases on how to grind the profession? I may be racing through the ranger profession, but I am having a ton of fun doing it in the process! Like trapping bull rancors at 1033xp (took 2 hours to master trapping... if that) per trap and pulling them into the Dath outpost was a fun night. The people in the outpost absolutely loved it! err... sorry for the tangent. But really... this thread should be reluctantly stickied so the "holo" rangers can get their info and move along thereby not "belittling" the elder's standpoints. Then again seeing this thread at the top of your forum could be a negative as well At any rate, try to have fun in your profession in the midst of the jedi seeling players.

take care,

"Basically what it boils down to is this.

If you are going to post how a holocron told you to master ranger and you've found that you are truly enjoying the ranger professionpost it here.

If you are going to post how you can master ranger in5 minutesso you canmove on to your next holocron post it in the jedi forum."

Agreed. I am quickly changing my thought in my previous post on this. I'm growing weary of hearing how "this is a piece of cake" and "this profession suxors, if it wasn't for a holo I'd never have done it". If you can make a macro and go afk and get to Master Ranger from Scout in 19 minutes, yay for you. It isn't necessary to stoop to degrading a players chosen profession, or belittle it, in the very forums we reside in.

Need info? We're happy to help. Want to add constructive thought on something can be improved? Great. We have the finest correspondant in all the galaxies, and he will add to our list. Want to come and run the profession down, or belittle the players? Please post it elsewhere.

Good hunting....

I think it's a spectacular idea that you guys keep your "How to Master X in Y minutes" under the Jedi Board. I'd suggest that one of the many people who are getting some use out of this thread should compile CreditGrubber's and a few other constructive posts in this thread, make a game guide out of it, and sticky it in the Jedi forum. Heck, CreditGrubber's already done the work for you--how tough could it be? You definitely won't find any dissenting Rangers posting in such a thread in the Jedi forum, so you won't have to deal with the elitists that we are.

/rant on

(Before I begin, let me say that CreditGrubber's post isn't what I have a problem with. This response is aimed at the few people who are screaming "elitists". The "attitude" that they give US is the inspiration for my post.)

Why is it surprising that people would react negatively to a "how do I get this profession over with fastest" thread? You really can't see that would be insulting (well, at least mildly irritating) to people who have been in the profession a long time, and actually care about what happens to it? The people in this forum spend time and effort passing along information, giving suggestions, and trying to get our class fixed. Our correspondent has done an astonishing amount of work to this end, and is constantly posting to newbie and "elder" questions alike.

I guess we view the Ranger forum as a place where people actually give something to the community. There seem to be a lot of holo-rangers, but I don't suspect you're providing anything useful to us. You are instead dumping newbie questions on our forums, gaining from our work and cluttering the forum, but not giving.

Surprising thing here is, if an actual newbie asked the same question, I'd answer it and not be irritated at all. So what is it about holo-rangers that draws my ire?

My answer for that is that I have a lot more respect for a new player that asks me how to craft a camp than i do for someone who asks me which spot on Dantooine gives me the most scouting exp/hour.

My opinion is that some Rangers are frustrated that the class they see having great potential is not going to be fixed/improved any time soon. I am. Personally, I look at my skills and it pisses me off that i'd be a better hunter if I spent my skill points in classes OTHER than Ranger. I don't need to go into the lacking areas in this profession; you'll just have to take my word for it (or read our correspondent's threads.) After holding out for a long time, I probably will start dropping Ranger skills that are useless to me. I just wish I didn't have to.

So, you're going to have to deal with some attitude from us for those reasons. It's unfortunate that it hurts some of your feelings. But I don't feel like digging through your threads just to get to something that's useful for this community. And hey, I'm human--I get insulted or irritated just like anyone else. Do you answer a lot of the "where did you go and what did you kill to get your holocrons? Waypoint please!" posts?

In summary, this thread belongs on the Ranger boards about as much as it belongs in the Tailor forums. Hijackers!!!!!!

Excellent post, and I've got to agree withVic on moving those "Master X in Y days"posts to the Jedi Board. I agree with a lot of the other stuffsaidinthe"rant" section as well, although it seemed to level-headed and reasonable to be a rant to me.

hi.. new ranger here.. sortoff.. im not a holo ranger.. but i am doing the holo grind.. my next one is smuggler, i did my holo prof (squad leader) and decided since i was so close to doing master scout i would grind the trapping xp to get it (im also a MCH by the way .. my choice). i got trapping xp so fast i was rather amazed..and thats fighting low lvl stuff outside corellia. a friend of mine is a true master ranger and his skills are invaluable to our PA and wo love him for that, so when i hit master scout i got the msg i qualify for ranger .. i used my holo and it told me next is smuggler.. but the ranger thing intrigued me so i said.. ill wait on my holo grind and try out ranger and see what it's all about.

im not even doing it cause a little box told me and im wizzing thru the trees.. i have enough xp for trapping and lvl 2 wayfaring i think its called, just got frontiering 1 and working the other trees.. have to say.. im having tons of fun! and these tips given here i will be making use of it especially the squill cave thing.

a little history for some if you care.. ive been playing sicne retail didnt get into beta, and when i first got my mask scent it works (sortof) it took me 2 months to realize that using maskcent actually gives you scouting xp.. and only cause a friend told me..whoa img etting scout xp using mask scent. so in essence i have been broken since the start of this game, it wasnt till i hit ranger and as i was going to train trapping 1 that i noticed.. OMG IM GETTING SCOUT XP FOR USING MY MASK SCENT!! so needless to say a welcomed surprise and will be using it alot more now.

in closing ty for the tips from the holo rangers.. and to the elders.. sometimes people like me do your profession out of curiosity not cause a box told them and have tons of fun.. thinking about staying a ranger once i get all my holo professions done (by the way when i started this holo grind my character was done (master Pikeman/CH/most of the medic tree cept for 2 boxes) now i might just change this around cause of my holo grinding.
