Thread: Guide to Big Creature Hunting as a Ranger
Meh the Gorax dies in about 5 minutes for me with my droid, with no outside assistance. I don't think I'd need to kill it faster than that. I'm not knocking the creature assistance thing, I know from experience it's a great tool, but on Eclipse, there are never any other spawns in the graveyard, and the Gorax is easy enough to solo.
Still haven't solo'd an ancient since pub 20. I did one with lyth yesterday and I realized that while I could do it, it would require about 8-10 sets of traps and a lot of time. Solo'd a juvie while I was waiting for lyth, took about 4 minutes. i'm guessing a grand would take around 15 and an ancient around 25-30.

Circe' Pojia heh. you mean the lines in caps about our traps not working, and all the hints about us not getting any combat mods at all weren't as ingeniously subtle as I thought?

However, this leaves you with the pets and prey standing in each others' faces with the only specials coming in to play being your traps. The P-dart is useless because your pets can't kite.
All in all, as much as I hate to say it, I can't imagine CH/Ranger being effective. Hopefully Publish 21 willchange that, but we'll see.
Note: I am neither a MCH ora MRanger (4434/novice) so you can take everythingI said as ramblings of a know-nothing loser.

I think you might be better off with some BH instead of the marksman skills. You might lose out on some speed and accuracy but the specials are probably more useful (like BH 0300 giving you improved crit shot and spray shot or confusion/underhand shot in 0030 or eye shot/torso shot in 0003). I don't know which is really better but I think that the BH specials might end up doing more damage (although you would be more likely to pull agro off the pets).

I'm MCH/MR right now (have been for a long time) with the rest in medic, novice marksman (for the kd recovery) and some FS and I'd have to say it is pretty much a group-only and RP only template IMHO, unless you like taking a half-hour to kill a nuna. And you do still do enough damage to outdamage pets with a good CL50+ cert weapon. Example: LD-1 Rifle with novice marksman modified DPS at 284.25 / sec. My CL70 huurton does 99-396 damage ( I believe that's every 2 seconds ).
