Ranger: O wise tailor, I know nothing of crafting clothing as I spend all my time hiding in the wilderness, but I need a specialized outfit to enhance my wilderness performance.
Tailor in a hooded robe : O great ranger only by honing your skills and proving yourself to the elite of your circle will you then aquire sucha thing. For items as those require the leather to be treated in a certain way, and only the most knowledgeable know how to make the treatment.
Ranger: Behold! for I have proven myself! (( gives over the item ))
Tailor : ahh yes (( crafts item )) Behold your new improved clothing!
Ranger: Can you make it in blue?.........
Tailor : ....
LOL, now that's really funny! Anyways, I really like the entire quest idea. Owen, I can tell that you've really thought it out and worked hard on it. I wish I could come up with ideas like this.
Getting clothing may be stepping on tailors toes, so how about this. What goes with us everywhere we go, aside from our clothes and our weapons? Our title! I know that once I hit Master Ranger I'm going to wear it. So, maybe the quest could give a master ranger a new title, such as "Legendary Ranger", and we could possibly learn some sort of ranger specific attack,Or maybe this could be where we could get our ranger-only weapon, or possibly stealth. After all, since Jakra Lan was a legendary ranger, he could train us in the ways of invisibility, or in the ways of the bow or (I prefer) crossbow.
My ideas aren't as well thought out as yours, Owen, but I'm just brainstorming and trying to help you out. I DO like this idea, though. It's awesome.

I believe we should all be unique in appearance. Reyune wears a Green Lined workshirt with gold trim, bone armor leggings and boots, a green gemstone crest, and black composite armor covering his right arm. That is my ranger outfit. What I enjoy about my fellow Rangersare the unique outfits they compile to give them their distinct look. Whether it be Jekker in his black and white camo pants or Hon in is Desert Command Jacket, I like the fact that they take pride in their own individual looks.
My suggestion was to have the "ranger quest" give out the skill tape. you'd be able to add that into any piece of clothing you like yourself. There is no "middle man" at all. If you want to put that into a pair of hawt pants that you buy off the bazaar for 1k, then that's what you could do. Your cost: 1k. It's just that whatever you want to put that into should come from the class that crafts them, namely the tailor class. And if there are new schematics to make clothing to be added, they should be added there, not to rangers. So to get the new cool ranger threads it would be just like when they added chefs hats & aprons. You can pick up a chefs hat and apron for what, 2k or 3k at your local tailor shop or on the baazar? Would be no different for ranger threads.
Bio engineers want no part of this. Actually, they want their own quests which would give them lootable skill tapes as well, only appropriate to the bio engineer skill set.
As far as paying real high prices to get looted stuff, you're going about it stupidly. If you want a backpack, no problem, go run the faction themepark missions, you'll get a 3-use schematic from that. Trade that to a tailor for one of the (made) backpacks and you'll have it for free, and they'll have 2 uses left on the schematic. Everyone is happy.

I like the original idea, even if it does cut out the tailors. Especially for the decay reason. Ranger is in no way a combat class, actually I think we weremade to die, so our clothes -will- decay. Aside from the decay, BE's will want a hand in crafting this because of the skill mods, meaning we'll end up forking over 200k+ for armor no one else can wear.
Kette had someone trying to sell a backpack with +5 camo on it for 150k >_>, Camo. Add in 3 mods per clothing article and we're paying way to much to upgrade our broken skills. Quests and hunting I can handle, when you bring in other jobs though it takes the novelty out of it. May as well be farming some NPC fora schematic, except this is going to require more work and time on our part.
