Hey Calc, on this sort of category. There is a NPC in Mos Espa, maybe Entha, named Matt Rags. He gives you some quests to go kill some cretures, harder and harder. At the end, he gives you this cool looking "Master Hunter Trophy" sort of like the Polished Krayt Skull.

The problem is I did these quest way back when in the first few months of the game. The full quest didn't work and even though you completed them all you didn't get any items or skull trophy in the end. Like many of the smaller quests in the game.

Well since they have fixed it, and I have seen what you get. The "Master Hunters Trophy" skull. You get this after the finaly quest Matt Rags gives you. Well I have finished them and so he won't talk to me now, just gives me the standard "I don't have anything more for you." Well I put in a bug report, and talked to a CSR but they can't/won't reset these minor quests.

Squid, you can reset Tatooine's quests in Bestine (I think). There's an imperial record keeper that you talk to, and he clears your history on the planet, allowing you to retake the quests. No Ranger is complete without that trophy =)

A couple points, from tailors' perspective:

  1. If there's any new clothing content in the game, it needs to go to tailors.

    • Enough looted cool stuff. Every new dungeon has a cool new item that cuts into our sales.

    • Since launch we've gotten 2 chef hats and a chef apron, and a bunch of limited-use stuff which quite honestly most tailors loathe. We need more content.

  2. Limited-use schematics, for lack of a better term, suck. Basically this means that the tailor gets to be the obstacle standing in the way between you and your finished product, because tailors can't possibly get the looted components schematics. Crafting slave? No, this won't fly.

  3. Give the poor bioengineers more to do. Again, why looted stuff? Why not petition the devs to implement more permanent tissue schematics for BE's so they can make different sorts of mods?

Well Owen, one of the famous philosophers once said, that when you are considering an idea, globalize it, and if it hold up, than it is a good one.

So let's globalize this. Lets say every class in swg gets their own mission like this. And they all get new clothing items. And all the clothing items look great and have wonderful skill mods in them, thus making them very highly prized and desirable. So who exactly will be the ones not wearing these clothes, and what happens to the clothing market? Can any ranger right now tell me that if such an item was added to the game that they would not be getting it? Also, like I said before, do we really want an SWG world where all carbineers are dressed in their special "carbineer shirts" and all pistoleers are dressed in their own "pistoleer pants" and all rangers wear the special "ranger cloak". Talk about clone wars!

I must say, I'm really dissappointed with the insensitivity to this issue that rangers are showing. As I've said, questions of balance come up constantly, and you guys are not exempt from this in any way. Those of you who have followed the endless threads bemoaning the lack of meat and hide and proposing all kinds of solutions that essentially freeze out rangers from the hunting market completely. I will remember this next time that stuff comes up again.

As for selling the loot and being stupid with it. I cant see any ranger who enjoys playing a ranger wanting to simply 'buy' the item. They will want to do the quest and get the schematic themselves.

Ok i see your point but can you honesly say being able to make MASTER RANGER only clothing items would seriously cut into your profits?

I know im not a tailor and thats why im asking but surely being able to create something new and charge for it can only be an advantage?

And you bring up the stats again. The main concept is not about the stats. Its a major advantage in getting and wearing the clothing however the main point is that other rangers and other players know what you have gone through to get these items.

The reason for this quest design was to make it only available to master rangers who have 'proven' themselves. Allowing you to make this item whenever you want kind of takes the apeal away and totally gets rid of the legendary status of it. It becomes just a new thing.

We would all be happy with new clothing but this was a epic quest reward that would allow us to challange our skills and prove we are great hunters and show off also. It isnt just about the stats, its about doing something other may not and working at something to gain the privelage of getting and wearing this clothing.

Owen,

1) It's not about profits, its about ones role in the game. If the most desirable clothing in the game is not made by a tailor, then what is the tailor's role in the game? Makingclothing for noobs that they can't wait to discard once they attain a master title? Who in their right mind would want that role?

2) If mods are so unimportant to your idea, then why not make the reward something completely different? Like a trophy you can display on your house? Or a badge you can wear on your jacket? Or better yet a special title you wear over your head? By you suggesting that it should be clothing and it should have mods, you opened up this can of worms as their other implications to that.

Hmm im sorry but thats prety damn harsh considering this thread has been open minded and has put forwards ideas for and against the ideas.

If you read the bottom of the post i was wanting feedback and ideas put forward and thats what so far has been done in a very orderly way.

I have no idea why you are taking such an offensive stance on a topic that is open for discussion and development. The fact that some people do no agree with you does make you nor them right.

As for your other less harsh points. I agree most master rangers (the few, the lost, the forgotton hehe) will want this piece of clothing. But as for the concept of pistol and carb clothing vs ranger clothing you need to take into account we are not a combat class and differ from the combat classes considerably. Our skill set is suposed to enable us to live in the wild and avoid detection and sight byhiding our scents and apearance. We even have an ability called camoflague that enables us to go undetected from creatures.

Im not saying we are better or we should have this at the cost of others, im simply saying camo and rangers make sense so clothing that makes rangers look like rangers and helps us in regards to hunting in the wilderness can only be a good thing.

I never said the stats werenot important. The fact that it helps the ranger hunt better is probly a higher and more important issue but the main point is that it shows to people who look that this master ranger has done something to prove he is a great hunter.

Ive said in many replies although the stats are important they are not the main reason.

Also the clothing WOULD be craftable by the tailors. They WOULD make the clothing so we would have nothing to do with lessening their role at all. Instead of a master ranger paying to get modded clothing, he or she would pay a tailor to make the Jakra Lan Clothing. We wouldnt be taking anything away, simply asking for something different that THEY provide

You guys are in trouble now that you have attracted the attention of n'Jessi! Now, n'Jessi (and other Tailors) here is what is behind this thread:

Master Rangers want to have something unique to show off who they are. This quest would (presumably) be a Master Ranger only quest with a Master Ranger only reward. I think we are willing to concede a schematic for Tailors to use, but if it isn't limited use, how is that unique? Also, if you had the ability to make clothes for Master Rangers, would you care? There are only a handful of us per server; we aren't going to impact your lifestyle except for the time you are making our garments. As for adding new BE tissues, I am all for it, but it still does not give Rangers their unique clothes.

Perhaps we should not be asking for clothes, but what else is there that we can use to show off that we are Rangers? Clothes go with us where ever we go, krayt skulls stay in our homes (and anyone can have the anyway).

I am curious (and serious ), how could we get our unique clothing AND make the Tailors happy?

Who's to say how Rangers are supposed to dress? I think all Rangers would have a different opinion, and I'd hate to see all the Master Rangers running around looking the same. "Cool" clothing is subjective.
In your original post, you described the Aragorn style Ranger look. I don't see my Ranger being like Aragorn at all, nor do I want to dress like that. Some would envision the SWG Ranger as a D&D-style, talk-to-the-animals, bow and arrow toting warrior of the forest. Others view the SWG ranger as the US Army Green beret, self-sufficient soldiers who took out gun turrets on Normandy beach.. a "wilderness-engineer" of sorts. I kind of lean towards the latter view.

I like the idea behind what you're suggesting, but basically that boils down to a Ranger specific quest. Cool idea if those quests were implemented, but I don't understand the need to prove anything to others by wearing certain types of clothing. I definitely don't like being limited to wearing clothing types which don't interest me, just to keep up with the abilities of other rangers. You have some good ideas, but I just don't like the idea of trophy clothing. If it has to be worn or is meant to enhance skill, maybe it could be a special backpack or necklace or wristwatch?

As for camo and other bonuses.. I'd like to see them fix camo first.
I've thrown away all my camo enhanced clothing and haven't noticed a difference! I also never liked having to wear a certain style of pants or shirt just to have a bonus which I didn't find useful. Besides, I thought once your skill points had reached 100 then anything that took it over 100+ didn't give you any additional benefit. (although I could be wrong on that.. ?) If that is the case, why give trophy clothes with skill bonuses to only master rangers who already have 100 in camo/mask scent, etc..

heres an idea.......

1) A permantschematic of all Jakra Lan Clothing go into the Tailor skill Tree.

2)This is a no fail combine, it does not require any wierd resources like Rori vegtable fungis or something equally stupid.

3) What is DOES require is a special Leather Planing Tool component!

4) This component is crafted from a schematic made by rangers in thier crafting kits, which THEY get from thier quest.

Ranger: O wise tailor, I know nothing of crafting clothing as I spend all my time hiding in the wilderness, but I need a specialized outfit to enhance my wilderness performance.

Tailor in a hooded robe : O great ranger only by honing your skills and proving yourself to the elite of your circle will you then aquire sucha thing. For items as those require the leather to be treated in a certain way, and only the most knowledgeable know how to make the treatment.

Ranger: Behold! for I have proven myself! (( gives over the item ))

Tailor : ahh yes (( crafts item )) Behold your new improved clothing!

Ranger: Can you make it in blue?.........

Tailor : ....

Personally, I'm with the Tailors here. I really want to see something like this but think about this from their end for a bit. If we get a quest like this then most other profession will want it. This makes it so that Tailors will only have business making the special loot schematic clothing. That is a bad way of handling it.

As another possibility, would Tailors be offended by having a unique special effect for the profession specific clothing? What I'm thinking is that a set of tailor made clothing is one of the required components to take to the quest giver. This clothing would be enhanced with the new stats and possibly some newparticle effect (like whatthe Devs implemented with the Image Designer revamp). Maybe a sort of shimmering effect that would make the Ranger look like he is fading. The clothes would be customizable just like any other tailor clothing but you'd have an interesting additional effect. And it would become no drop after the conversion. It would be best if BE mods carried over into the new clothing as well (possibly requiring a specific BE enhancement to be suitable). Would this seem like a reasonable alternative to getting a new type of clothing?

I don't know if it's just because Im a bitter old ranger or what, but honestly I'd rather not get the equips if we have to share with another profession. And yes, I realize how that sounds, but hell, we're not getting any aspects of our broken class fixed, why not give us clothes from a quest?

As for it cutting into other professions and taking away from their uses, well...*points at the scout profession* I have nothing against career scouts, but we can do one thing semi-well, and they do it damn near just as good. Harvest meat. I don't getupset when I see Commandos with novice scoutout harvesting the same stuff I am with almost the same proficiency, I cope.
