Incidentally Owen, although I came off as pretty critical of this proposal, I did like most of it, and I think it's cool that you took the time and cared enough to make it. So kudos on that, and I hope you and others continue to make such proposals. Let's just hope that some of the good ideas presented here make it into the game.
Thanks. Didnt take too long realy, just typed it up when i was nursing my hangover. It isnt a proposal as such, just a set of rought ideas to be thrown around that can hopefully stir some imagination as i think it has.
I wouldnt want the devs to take this idea and make it a reality, that wasnt my intention. My intention was to put the idea out that possibly in up coming patches and update we can get something to make us far more unique than we already have, something that we can walk around showing off, somthing that we can participate in and further our ranger skills past master status.
The quest was right off the top of my head and i enjoying typing it up. There have been alot of feedback and its great so many people have helped in shaping the views of both tailors and rangers.
But i dont think there is any hostility towards each other. As i see it, people we just putting what they would like to see instead, how they would like ranger move forward in this regard, not bitchslapping each other because the idea stepped on someones toes.

I think ArthurDentOnBria made a good point: why don't we put this idea on the tailor boards?
See, the great part about this quest idea is that not only does it give some CONTENT to a proffession largely in need of it, but it also gives us something cool to strive for after we Master. Something that makes people want to KEEP Master Ranger (even more so than the title alone). But he's right: it does step on the toes of the tailors.
So why not put a proposition up on their boards? Take the basic idea and describe it to them. Perhaps offer up a couple of alternatives...the original idea (no decay, Ranger-only crafting) and implement some of the other suggestions (decay, Tailor componants, possible Tailor crafting) and ask what they think. Remind them that Master Rangers are few and far between so the business they would "lose" would be minimal. (As is, I very rarely go to a Tailor).
Just a thought...if I have time later, I may go ahead and post this myself on the Tailor boards...unless there is a large outcry against it.

Because we will be beaten with sticks and hawtpants? It is obvious that the Tailorshave people out combing the boards looking for threads that affect them. They have responded nicely here. If we go to their boards, we look like invaders, and we get basically no respect. Look at how we treat people that come to our board with an idea. We are usually nice, butthings get ugly when an 'outsider' is involved.

I am curious (and serious
), how could we get our unique clothing AND make the Tailors happy?
Permanent schematics for tailors (unsure how acquired) and clothing certs for the items. So only rangers can wear em, like that silly armor. That says "I'm a ranger" but doesn't require the tailor to be the crafting machine standing between l33t ranger and his l33t l00t.
The small numbers of rangers should not have any bearing on the analysis. We should look at this globally. Numbers fluctuate and trends beget similar items for other professions.
(EDIT: I'm not saying that the tailors have signed off on "clothing certs" because we haven't really discussed it yet, but I think this proposal is a lot closer to what they would want.)

Here's what I proposed on the Tailor forum as a collective bargaining agreement.
Tailors need a reason to do missions to get certs to make items. Thus, if a Master Tailor (or some suitable level Tailor) undertakes a mission to get a schematic, that person would acquire a PERMANENT schematic. If the schematic is sold to them, then it is limited use and has a set number of uses before it's destroyed.
The Ranger quests would be similar, but would instead be comprised of missions where we collected unique hunting trophies. At the end of the quests, we would have a couple of trophies and the certs to wear a piece of the clothing. This would have to be repeated for the other pieces. In the end, we end up having done a lot of traveling and we have several hunting trophies to our name, as well as certs to wear the clothing.
Thus we have quests, Tailors have crafting, and we end up with cool proof of our hunting prowness (not only the trophies, but the clothing as well.
Does this work for everyone??

WOW, great idea!!!
I really like this, but I do see N'jessi's point about getting Tailor's involved. Can't we have a neat Ranger specific clothes that the tailors are involved in?? Well I could keep trying to type some thing else but here it goes. I am secretly in love with N'jessi and for those of you not on Scylla, well sorry. lol

I continue to be very discouraged by what I read here, so time for me to bow out because it's just cheesing me off too much. That's too bad, I have a toon that was a (non-holo) master ranger, and am building another ranger now so I've always felt a kinship with rangers and have been impressed by the ranger forum community, but I can't endorse this anti-crafter, and "us first, to hell with everyone else" sentiment that I'm seeing here by many (but not all). I'm not sure exactly what has changed, it wasn't very long ago that you guys actually went to the tailors (and every other forum) and asked for the support of everyone else to rally for the ranger cause, which I still very much endorse btw and look forward to the revamp. So I find this new attitude very surprising. But in the end, you will propose what you will propose, step on the toes that you are going to step on, and the devs will take that feedback as well as the feedback from the other correspondents and form their own opinions of it. Mainly I wanted to raise the awareness that there are cross-class balance issues that need to be examined along with this otherwise very impressive proposal and I think I accomplished that.

Great stuff pheonix.
Advancing on your idea on the quest front. Maybe to complete the mission and get through all the levels, the ranger and tailor quests should be linked in some way. Perhaps a ranger would need the tailor to be with him/her at a certain time to progress through the quest, and then mirrored, maybe the tailor would need a ranger to get him/her through their part of the tailor quest.
Ok back in abit with another little rough idea that would better show my intentions and description.

Why not just make it an honerary Ring given to you from Jakra for proving yourself. The countless hours spent killing his rare creatures from the mighty planets could just be to hear his great story. Then in the end he gives you this ring proving you are his friend and a true ranger.
The ring could have some sort of mod.. but it doesn't have to.. would be nice though. Or wearing the ring could give you a special Title to wear above your head other than master Ranger which is already rare making you truely unique.
