Thread: Something rather sad...
While I certainly agree that 140 SP should give us more than we have, I disagree with your take on how much we can earn. It only takes 92 SP to master an elite combat profession like pistoleer or Teras Kasi (what I am). I have no trouble getting maybe 2-3k meat or hide per hour solo, if that's what I want to spend my time doing. A shame Sunrunner doesn't pay well for such goods so it finds its way into the hands of my doctors who keep me in stims and buffs when needed.
I have about 300k cr in the bank and over 50k hides/meats in the bank (so maybe value of 600k total or so). I don't wear armor and despite having one of the best vibroknucklers on the server, I usually don't even wear them (spam UH3 and kill faster). I don't really need money so I normally don't hunt unless I get an offer I can't refuse, and I don't get those.
I just do NPC quests for now - finished Jabba's theme park last night and will do the intellect/altrusim badges ASAP. Then the warren has a compassion badge which I want to get. Hunting is still grand and Warfaring is actually semi-useful. I made a ton of camo kitsbut they don't seem to sell
.
As a melee ranger you'd think I'd have more to complain about than you.
As for income, I hate to say it, but you're doing something wrong. I'm always over 100k in the bank (until yesterday, needed a new pistol), and with tracking IV, I find it very very easy to quickly accumulate quality hides. I spent 3 days on Lok, maybe a total of 10 hours playtime, and harvested 11k units of some really good bristley, that I'll be able to sell for at least 10/.
Conceal wasn't working correctly when we first got it, or so I'm told. Now that they've fixed it, I've started using it. I'm to wayfaring IV and I can tell you first-hand from last night's experience that it not only works, but works amasingly well. Led a small group across Yavin IV and Dantooine, mostly just sight-seeing. I think camo broke twice on them, and never on me, just wore off.
So now, here's my current template:
Ranger 4/2/4/4 Pistoleer 0/0/4/1 CH 1/2/1/1
I've got a few medic skills, but I'm going to need to drop them soon, and I won't miss them much. I intend to get to master ranger, even if it's just so I can snoop around on Dathomir while concealed. Probably take CH up to 2/2/1/1, further if I can scrape up the skill points.
I hunt with a grand wrix or a greater sludge panther, but that'll change once I have taming II, as I'd like to get a kusak stalker and a huurton huntress. They're both smaller animals and more "hunting-dog" like. And that'll suit my rp just fine.
Basically what I'm saying is this: I've found no difficulty supporting myself in my chosen profession. Are there worthless skills? Yes, imo. I used trapping only because I needed it to get to master. I have no further use for it. Maybe I've hit upon a magic "template," I don't know. I'm just telling you what works for me.
Hope this helps you.
Hmm either some of you are under charging for resources or aren't talking to enough crafters or finding the good resources. I made 500k in less than a week selling 21k of Endor Wooly hide that had an OQ of 929. If the resource is over 900 in OQ it is worth no less than 20 credits per unit.
To make money just find one of these resources and harvest the heck out of it. Also get to know some crafters and find out what types of resources they need and if they need them planet specific or at a certain quality. If you have a good relationship with at least one of each crafter type you should be able to make some good money. Here is what I have found that each crafter is usually on short supply of.
Tailor - Bristley Hide and Wooly Hide(OQ)
Armorsmith - Wooly Hide (OQ and Shock Resistance)
Bio-Engineer - Meat(OQ & Potential Energy), Eggs(Search Lair), Hides
Architect - Wooly Hide, Hides(OQ)
Medics - Meat(OQ & Potential Energy)
Chefs- Meat & Eggs(OQ & Potential Energy & Flavor)
Rangers - Camo kit resource requirements. Not all Rangers will buy this but there will be a few that won't want to take the time to gather these for themselves because they are busying selling all they harvest to crafters.
That is a basic list of resources and the stats that the crafter is looking for in them. For Tailors and Architects the stats don't mean a whole lot so save the higher quality stuff for the other professions as you will get a better price from them.

Not really, I already knew Pistol/CH can rule PvE. You did read the part that Verena was one right? She decided that the points were better spent just doing the full template instead of part of it, which kind ofproves my point...
...and no, I do not believe I'm "doing something wrong". I did crack that quarter-mill this weekend however. I was sitting on a stack of carnivore that for some dumb reason was not selling. It seems BE's got some love in the last patch and bought some.
Now, here's the rub. I believe my problem is a tad more related to being a rifleman (think I said this once). Incase some of you missed that bit, 250% damage (this reduces my effective health to 340). Strike 2 I can't hit at all at melee rangeunless I spam Point-Blank Specials, which are not part of rifleman. Therefore, I must invest in something other then RIfleman or when I toss the rifleI'm a 60-point misqueto and hope the bleed takes. Those of you that say "use the pet", ya, I do. Set on guard and I sometimes use the "collect the agro" trick but there is always something odd that goes wrong (funny, that warping stillhappens every so often, no matter what I do). I've made wonderful strides, don't get me wrong BUT anything I cando to help with the rifle, other professions also have this and the pet can't always hold back the bad things. Most other profs this is a "oops, close one". For me it's a trip to the clone center. THEREFORE my tactics have to be adjust for this, making me spend more time for each kill. Exciting, yes. But it's starting to get tedious.
If I had enough SP to have Master Rifleman/Master Ranger and some heavy sword still left I'd be a happy camper (basically, nullifies the 250% damage). There is a big hole in the market for Organics and I like the adventuring so I don't see dropping Ranger. I'll let you all know how it goes after I get Rifle AoE's, perhaps that is my only hope...

...snip, already knew this...
My problem is GETTING the Endor Wooly. When the top quality is Corellian, THEN we're talking. But still, those don't drop as much and the volume is still too low.
I know how and what to get. The problem is I don't have the POWER to get it... unless I bring a CH/Pistoleer with me...
Have a Phecacine(sp?) Dart ready and when the mob starts to close intoss it this should slow it down enough for you to get the pet on it and back out of it's attack range and by the time it wears off the pet should have full agro. Also make sure to not group with your pet as there is some weird AI in there that if you are grouped you share some of the agro but if ungrouped the pet can maintain agro.
Also try to stay at least 15m from the mob even if it is fighting a pet sometimes they will switch off of the pet on to you if you stay to close.
Also keep pet stims at the ready to heal your pet during combat if it is taking too much damage.
There is also another trap that works similar to the Phecacine Dart but I can't remember what it's called but it uses polymer where as the Dart uses metal which is easier and cheaper to get.
Hope that helps.
There isa delema there, outside 15m point-blank stops working. then I have to run out to 40 or more to be effective. Rifleman get a really bad set of range choices. I'll see if a spraysitck is better but I've been told it isn't.
P-darts, yep, used them. Bad idea for BAF type tho...and traps fail, just a fact of life. Remember, ONE mistakeor run of bad luck, a rifleman is crittter chew-toy.
I have learned it is faster and more efficient to spend the time doing damage. Now, if the effects lasted longer and the traps succeeded more, I could see your point.
Well Fred don't know what to say seems you're pretty frustrated I never went up the rifle tree because the HAM costs on them were messed up at release and you ended up killing yourself before the creature would.
Also on the resource thing it doesn't have to be Endor wooly. On Ahazi right now Talusian Insect and Carnivore are both over 900 OQ and herbivore is over 800. Putrid decay mites just outside the city and you can getarond 10-14 units each kill and there are some tougher spawns that drop more as well like rot mites. What I am saying is it doesn't have to be Endor Wooly it just has to be the right resource with good quality and finding it then farming the heck out of it. It sucks but it will make you good money if you need it.
I am a Ranger/CH/Pistoleer nearly master on the first two and only going up the techniques line til 3 on Pistoleer. I had two newly tamed Sludge Panthers killing those mites outside dearic and gained about 40k CH xp getting about 240 each kill and about 1.5k insect meat in an hour or so.
Also do you have warning shot? I use this sometimes when my pet is slow in getting agro if it hits and the mob starts to run from you and then run in the opposite direction. Usually by the time the creature recovers my pet will have picked up agro if not I just repeat until it does.
Again there is always room for failure in these methods still haven't found a method that ensures I will never die but I always have options.

"...in the time I can fire a rifle once, I can fire that pistol 4 or 5 times. Rifles need greater range or better speed to give me a reason to use one over a pistol. As for the roleplaying aspect, yar, that sucks, as it makes more sense to use a rifle to hunt with. But with the range penalties I get when a creature gets close, combined with the lack of speed, I'm dead to quick."
Nope, didn't miss it. Rifles are pretty much useless, imo. And carbines aren't far off from rifles because of the HAM costs.
As for melee weapons, well, my prejuidices enter here and I have to say, "Sorry, this is Star Wars." I wouldn't bring a melee weapon to a gunfight, and I wouldn't hunt with one either. Even primitive cultures soon learned to hunt with projectile weapons, and once they did, they didn't return to hunting prey with sticks and rocks unless they were desperate.
2. Some kind of parity with CH. Not a real CH mind you. Perhaps no training or taiming but something like a bonus to non-CH pet use -say higher total pet levels and/or able to have an additional pet out. We are supposed to know animals, but that really does not translate to something WORTH the skill point loss.

Holo said that and he regretted it ever since. For one thing, a lightsaber is a melee weapon. Another, if Holo says "don't bring a knife to a gun fight" one can ask him then why he put that class in the game to begin with?
The point is melee is in the game so a mindset likeyours and Holo'shas no justification whatsoever. Holo already learned his lesson I believe.

I 100% disagree. want a higher total CH pet levels, and such, you have the xp and prereqs to get novice CH, then do it. But rangers should not have any creature handling advantages. at all. That is for the CHs.Novice CH can only use 1 pet, why should a non ch be able to use 2????I do think stuff can be done about "knowing" animals, such as calming down aggro animals while your team gets by, or rescue working effectivly. maybe some area traps for quick escape would be nice. Another idea is maybe some poison/confusion to get animals to attack eachother. But I do not aggree with any CH powers, no matter how remote given to non ch including rangers( no more than the current given to non ch that is)
One random PC does something that proves a point? I don't see it.
