Oh no. I'm not against the rescue at all. What I'm saying and I hope you would agree that if you use the rescue to "rescue" a mob to in order to attack another player then that could be used to grief. The rescue should work the way it's stated. Rescuing a player from a mob. Not rescuing a mob from a player. If you are out in the field minding your own business then all of a sudden get attacked by someone who rescued the mob you were attacking (enabling them to attack you) then the you are now getting attacked after doing nothing but minding your own business hunting.

THAT'S what I'm talking about that needs to be fixed. If it allows you to attack another player without their consent then that could be exploited to grief.

Do a searchfor Owen Zjoo (I'm serious a gy buy that name does exist) on the main boards and read up about this wonderfull little 13 year old l33t d00d and ask yourself. . . do you really want this kid running around doing rescues on mobs to PK other players. At least Xion_Lion did it in with a sense of role-playing but the very fact it can be used to PK without consent has enormous griefing potential.

I know I'm spamming this thread but I feel very strongly about this. Also if you are going to call me a whiner allow me to live up to that billing. I have had enough PK griefing from other MMO's to last mea lifetime.

We are RANGERS. We are hunters of animals. If we wanted to hunt humaniods we would have become Bounty Hunters. Both build off of the scout tree. Those of us who wanted to hunt animals became rangers. Those of us who wanted to hunt humanoids became Bounty Hunters. We are PvE animal mob hunters. That being said rescue should only work the way it is stated to work. To rescue a player controlled avatar from an animal mob. That lines up with our profession and with how the wording of rescue is stated. This skill should not be allowed in any way to allow you to attack another player.

This entire debate and series of threads which span at least 2 boards got started because Xion used this skill to ATTACK and engage in PvP with another real life player without their consent. That is griefing. Did you read the original post from the Bounty Hunter who Xion did this too. Xion used rescue to attack a Bounty Hunter while their back was turned because in Xion's opinion the mark didn't have a fair chance so he attacked another player without that player's consent to even things up.

That is griefing no matter how you put it. This game is based on 100% consensual PvP. A big selling pointfor me was that there would never be non-consensual PvP. Rescue being used this way violates that.

This is an exploit, it does not line up with our profession as animal hunters and it does not line up with the wording of the skill itself.

My 2 cents worth.

Hmm...IMO resuce should only allow you to rescue another Player Character. Not Humiond NPCs nor creatures. This would save most of the potential for greifing. If used in PvP and the Ranger is Covert, it gives him a TEF. (assuming the TEF system is working correctly )

As for the BH missions....if the mark is killed then the BH should get the credit for mission complete.

Good posts at the end here. I think attimes has got the right idea, and I agree with his sentiments.
I have a very difficult time believeing that /rescue was meant to allow you to rescue an NPC or other AI creature.
I definitelythink /rescue should always be allowed for targeting and /rescue(ing) a PC, regardless of what he's up against. In the eventuality that there are player bounties, I think we should be able to /rescue a PC from a Bounty Hunter. The same is true with the GCW. Doctors and medicscurrently have the ability to switch from covert to overt based on his actions (healing one of the faction members). The way I look at it,using /rescue for helping a member of my chosen faction during a firefight, should be the same as a medic using his skills to help his faction.

Basically: using /rescue on an NPC or AI creature - Never ... using /rescue on any PC - Always

Barb,

Oh lordy - can we not have a fun joke here anymore? This is a hilarious post - even if I never do it, I think it's amusing.

Just laugh and move on. No one is trying to ruin your time as a BH.

It's good to see a bit of humor on the Ranger boards - don't go squashing it.

What a disgrace to see people abusing blatent exploits. And the on top of that to come post them on the boards in hopes others will join in their exploiting. I hope the devs ban you for pulling this type of crap.

This post was made days before it was discovered this was an exploit.. I completely agree that you should not be able to attack PC players who are fighting anything outside of a faction battle.

A correspondent supporting blatent exploiting what a crock, how can we expect to ever have bugs fixed when correspondents have a good laugh at watching people abuse bugs and exploit.

Someone has come to a public board and stated they abuse a bug to grief people for kicks, BHs specifically. They also gave details for how others can abuse and exploit this bug, this post should be deleted before things get out of control.

Indeed, this is an older thread. There has been more current discussions on this topic in other threads.

Zarn, I retract my statement regarding your "selling" this tactic to other Rangers. You have since made comments that are more in line with the understanding that this is an exploit.

But Rangers----ask first before you /rescue any Bounty Hunters from their marks.

This is not whining.

This is potentiallykill-stealing / mission stealing where Rangers (or any other class) have no business interfering.

It is clearly an exploit.

How the hell are you "rescuing" me, if it does me harm, or if I don't want to be rescued?

Again, Bounty Hunter missions are for Bounty Hunters (and anyone else they allow to participate).

Even though it is perfectly "legal" and allowed within the mechanics of a game, kill / mission stealing in any situation is frowned upon. It is simply bad form. Don't do it.

I can't see how anyone would disagree on this----unless their goal is to grief other players in the game.

Ok guys, lets get a reality check here for a second. Sure this is funny that /rescue can do this, but its obviously a bug and an exploit. As a Ranger myself, even I can say that /rescue *should* only work on critters, not on NPCs and certainly not on PCs. The whole Idea of the Ranger is we are supposed to(eventually I hope) be masters of the environment and hunting down creatures...not NPCs or other players.

I think the last thing we want to do is have this stand like it is right now. I mean think about it...do we really want griefers, exploiters, and faction aligned PvPers dabbling in Ranger simply for the sake of getting rescue? I mean the Scout correspondent already understands and has voiced his issue over people becoming scouts simply because they either have to or more importantly, just to get a few advantages(like camps) when they don't even care about the idea of being a scout at all.

I know the last thing I want is more Rangers who don't care about Rangers, but instead want to take advantage of a bugged ability we have thus making our entire community, which on the whole has been pretty well recieved by everyone else, look bad.

Solr.... the problem is... not all rangers can agree on the "role" of a ranger being a "Park Ranger"...

I for one am NOT playing a Park Ranger...

I'm playing a Power Ranger... and a Military Ranger roled into one.

I hunt down evil... and then snuff it out.

I have stopped trying to kill BHs in the meantime because I don't want to exploit, but as JMat said... if player bounties ever come into play and you attempt to take down my buddy.... you bet your BH butt I'm going to /rescue and bring some pistol luv to bear...

The fact is... SOE needs to publicaly address this skill and discuss how they intend it to work so that we can use it properly...

I'm just not going to buy into the "ranger myth" that we are supposed to be just fighting critters... I'm a covert reb with a bag of faction points and you bet I'm going to jump into battles when I see them and show the overts what a Covert Op is all about.
