Thread: More Fun with /Rescue Zarn's Covert Ranger Save Tactics
I reported the /rescue exploit/bug 1st week i was ranger, even got a reply for thanks for notifying them... this was well over a month ago heh.. and its still not fixed ![]()
i can kill anyone in the game faction or not if i wanted ![]()
it doesn't "ALLOW" you to attack the player.. IT FORCES THE PLAYER TO ATTACK YOU...
As soon as /rescue kicks in, whatever is attacking what you /rescued has their target box immediately changed to you and they begin autoattacking.
So its not an option. Its forced combat.

Soon as they shoot you, you can shoot back.
Ive never personally used this because i know its essentially a griefing exploit, only time i used it is when i discovered and reported it over a month ago grouped with a friend testing /rescue.
Still don't know why its not fixed as you can "force" the combat on anyone factioned or neutral.. Imagine someone you dislike, wait forhim/her to startattacking a mob, /rescue that mob and voila!.The person won't know whats going on, you run out of 64m range (so his combat queue clears) then run back in to finishhim/her off. Sloppy bounty hunting and bad greifing ![]()
Last nite I once again performed the rescue trick and dropped an Imp in his tracks. Teach him to be messing with my smuggler buddy ... ok J initiated the mess, but hey, what are friends for?? Besides, he sliced my pistol to 1.5 speed. How it worked -
Overt imp, PC, comes into area (wrongo bongo bucko). Fight ensues, with J the smuggler nailing the imp marksman fairly well. At a crucial point, I "rescued" J and from my vantage point in back of the hapless Imp, put two healthshot2s into him, 2 body shots2 and then chased him down (as he was screaming in panic I may add) and got the deathblow. I got the faction points and stayed covert. I really do not think this is a bug, I think that it's an inadvertant off shoot of rescue. What was to say it was not a rancor eating on the smuggler. The faction stuff is just an aside.
Anyhow, it was fun... Beats kicking durnis in the butt for meat for the docs

Just wandering and having a good time
I dont think is a bug, as a matter of fact is tottally fair, the the pc thats attacking the person I rescue gets the first shot and if I happen to survive(wish I dont think I will anyway) I still get a tef, so is a tottally fair ability. It is a surprise attack so the sdvantage is minimum.
I do agree that rescuing a mob from a pc can become griefing really really fast. So They should make it so you cant rescue mobs from pc, but in pvp is totally fair

WHY IS IT wrong to be a COVERT REBEL and be able to JUMP INTO A BATTLE AS A COVERT???
I think it is the most logical use of being COVERT (see definition) there is. I think it is a thing of beauty to be able to be a random bystander that the imps don't realize is a rebel only to turn the tide when I start to rescue rebs being attacked...
Every Reb that has been rescued this way by me has openly thanked me more than anything else I've done... and made me actually FEEL like a Military Ranger...
You're nuts if you want that nerfed.. its perfectly logical and useful and I don't see HOW its broken.. you stay red to IMPS for a long time.. its not like an instant switch back to no TEF flag.............

I think you are totally nuts if you think that this is not a problem for other players.
Of course it is fun and of course you are going to like it but that doesn't make it fair. The fact that we can attack ANYONE in the game, whether they want to engage in PVP or not, and also able to KS their missions from them, is obviously going to become a bigger problem for players once they figure out that we are able to do it.
IF this ability is working as intended then I think that is crazy... and would also make the Ranger class the most dangerous class, for other players, in the game. I don't think that our class was intended to be a sneaky PC assassin.
If you areof the mindthat being able to initiate PvP combat with unwilling people that are justcombating creatures and normal NPC's (Civilian or otherwise) is acceptable then you are becoming a loose cannon in the Ranger community my friend, and we will not tolerate our good name being sullied as such.
On the other hand, I feel that it is Perfectly acceptable to be able to Initiate PvP under circumstances that it could normally be initiated using the current Covert and Overt TEF rules. By this I mean, /rescue should work to make you a temporary Factioned Covert turned Overt. No one other than yourself and others of the faction you are assisting would know any better since enemy factions cannot tell if you are covert or not anyhow.
Thisability couldwork to our advantage, making us Rangers a wildcard in the Galactic Civil War. The only True Coverts out there since we could not even be detected by the faction we choose to assist until we actually jump into the fray.
On the downside, if 1.) /Rescue is continually abused by initiating combat with unwilling players just out hunting creatures,if it is 2.) used to assist NPC bounty hunter marks AGAINST player Bounty Hunters and ifit is 3.)used to initiate combat with two dueling player combatantsthen we Rangers are going to feela nerfaxe on our necks, losing our only interesting/working skill!
It is unfortuanate that we are going to lose this ability to /rescue a player vs. another player, as I think it would be a great way to protect our friends if they happen to gain a Bounty on thier head (if and when player bounties are added), but it is Sure to happen if we do not reign in our immaturity and cease using this ability to grief other players that have NO intrest in participating in PvP!!
this is a huge exploit.
you dont have to be overt, you dont have to be of a faction,
you can kill anyone who is attacking anything.
you can mess with bounty hunter missions, after last patch they are a real challenge, and also very costly as well (investigation 1+ you pay to do these, very very rare you actually see a profit)
With CH nerfs and knockdown nerfs they all take very good planning and specific tactics, rangers messing with them would be disasterous.
Its not ok to grief if you roleplay it, its still griefing.
Its not ok to exploit if you roleplay it, its still exploiting.
My only concern is the potential griefing that could go on. You may use it to role-play but what's to stop Owen Zjoo from using it and typing "I r0x0rz 0wn j00 n00b Iteh shizzle". This game's selling point was no non-consensual PvP ever. Using this skill to attack another player controlled character IMO should be removed. We are rangers built on scouts. We are hunters of animals. The BH is hunter of non animals. Why should rescue allow us to do something that doesn't line up with our profession. I want to be a PvE hunter that's why I picked Carbineer/Ranger. I don't want to hunt people and engage in PvP otherwise I would have been a BH since it builds on the scout tree as well.
Also on a personal note. When you do this to attack a player controlled character and they ask you why I would hope it would not be too far against your principles to come out of character to do a simple "/reply I'm using a ranger only skill called rescue to rescue your target."
I read your post about what you did to the BH and if it were me being attacked by you I would have been very frustratied (read ticked) if I was simply trying to figure out why you were attacking me and kept getting hardcore role-play responses when a simple out of character one line tell would suffice. The tactic of attacking and giving hard core role play responses when the person on the other end is frustrated IMO is annoying at best griefing at worst.
yes you did emotes but like 99% of people in this game I generally ignore the spatial spam that comes through and I hardly ever read emotes.
Rescue should only work to save a player controlled character from a creature mob. Regardless of rather it's PvP or PvE. It lines up with the ranger class. If it's used to attack a player controlled character in any way it needs to be fixed.
I'll say it again RESCUE SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO ALLOW YOU TO ATTACK A PLAYER CONTROLED CHARACTER IN ANY WAY.
last spam for a while anyway
will someone please log in and /bug this. I'd post it on the main boards but then everyone would pounce on it. All we need is for some uber dood to find this out and boom we get nerfed and hated.
I would rather this gets handled quietly and we should be the ones to report it.
