Thread: RANGERS UNITE!!...THIS RANGER HAS HAD ENOUGH
I totally agree with Taciturn.
We get hosed on our prices daily.
If all the Rangers on each server got together (lol, all 10 or so per server) and started a collective pricing deal... well it would work til the Scouts/BHs/anyone with novice scout undercut us. As they will, so we continue to get screwed.
Right now, I sell only on contract, and only to about 5 people. My harvestors pay for themselves, and I sell that stuff dirt cheap to noobs/grinders to support my house and my weapons habit. Missions comprise my major source of income. Yesterday I made a good chunk of change, I let a BH train me in ranged support 35 times in a row (yes, I maxed combat xp at 300k) for 4k a train. Felt dirty, but hey, he was a fellow reb and he wanted to pay. (to atone for that sin, I let a wanna be Ranger train me in the same 20 times for free for the AXP)
Anyhow, if someone can come up with a solution other than a general strike, let me know.

I dunno, this sort of thread is the reason Calc that I say don't go to crafting forums and expect their support in our plight to improve our profession. Even if our ability to harvest were to increase it is unrealistic to think that rangers will drop prices because there will always be this sort of sentiment ("look how much they are making, we need to charge more...").
I just disagree with this sort of reasoning though. If we try to truly get a premium for our goods, we hurt only ourselves. Our client/partner is going to have to charge a premium for his/her goods and be at a competitive disadvantage. Plus, the next time we have to pay for armor, buffs, pet stims, or whatever all we've done is caused our costs to go up.
The other thing to consider when pricing is mission payouts. If you are killing rasps and paralopes on Talus it's one thing, but if you are killing pickets on Dantooine it's quite another.
This thread comes up every week or so and what others have said is what I think the right thing to say here: charge a reasonable fee, and barter. Barter for brandy, barter for buffs, barter for armor and both you and your artisan partner will both benefit more.
Agreed. The problem is lack of supply, not lack of demand. The prices on chef foods and armor would drop if organics were easier for us to procure. Therefore, I suggest leaving scout as is, but making a master ranger harvest 300% of what a scout can.

I do not agree that there is a lack of suppply problem, if this was the case you would not see Doctors Buffing for 10k or more at any given time on corella ect.. if we had a lack of supply problem Artisans and their Eliteswould not be able to grab Novice scout Only and harvest over Half of what a Master Ranger can, Thus skipping the middleman
If we had a Lack of Supply the Value of our Harvest would be Higher and we rangers would be in /tell hell from Crafters begging for resources and trying to outbid their competitors for our Valued Harvest..

The simple solution: Increase our harvesting rates. If we can harvest 3x as much as we do now then it is easy to charge half price on our resources and still make more money. You want 80cpu for something now? If you can get 3x as much in the same time then 40cpu seems very reasonable to me. You would still make 1.5x as much money as you would at 80cpu. And that crafter would have a hard time explaining why their prices haven't dropped when a significant portion of the cost is gone. More harvesting helps everyone. Don't touch the low level scouts. Give Master Ranger a huge increase in the amount harvested. General prices for organics will fall. Rangers will get more money. Crafters will be forced to drop their prices (and yet still get nice profit margins). A Master BH is much better with a pistol or a carbine than a Novice Marksman. We should get a similar increase with our harvesting. Support the push for better harvesting. Do you really think crafters want to harvest their own resources? Most of them do so because they can't afford to do it any other way. They want us to be able to supply them at reasonable prices. If we can collect more resources then we can supply them. And still make a profit if we want.

Do you realize how insane that 10k figure is though? Don't get me wrong, if I were a doc I'd be charging that too, and for the person being buffed its money well spent. But consider thatone set of buff packs has 25-30 charges! You're talking over a quarter of amillion credits for creating and administering only a handful of stims! The reason why you *do* see doctors buffing for 10k/set is that even with only minimal combat skills they can, if nothing else, go out into the backyard and shoot rasps for an hour or two and that will give them the avian they need for a set of buff packs if they are unable to twist a scout's arm into selling the same meat to them for 100cr/u.
