Yesterday, while I was heading to the Ranger trainer, a doc was askingfor hunters offering to sell 10k of lokian avian meat. I told her that I would get her the 10k. She barked out 20cpu. I told her my price was 35cpu. I also said that I would place the meat on my vendor and she could buy it if she chose to. After asking why I charge so much, I explained the sheer amount of time needed to gather 10k. I also toldexplained other factors likedecay of weapons, cost of benefit forthe hunt, and opportunity cost (killing perlek all day won't yield great XP). Since I'd have to kill so many perleks for the cause, my price is set. It is also a rare occurence to see such high numbers for the popular type of meat. So, after a few hours of hunting, I placed her 10k of meat on my vendor and it was sold no more than 10 minutes later. I was 350k richer. It's all about supply/demand. We are the hunters. We are the few.We are the price setters. I don't buy into the whole 'piece of the pie' mindset (ie The armorsmith makes 500k on a set of armor, and pays a measly 100k for a subcomponent. why shouldn't i get a bigger chunk?). Well, you're not the armorsmith. He has to gather resources of all types to make the armor. He also charges based on his market demands. He has supply/demand. He also has a skill he worked hard to achieve. In other words,it sounds too much like distribution of wealth in my eyes. No sensible person, who earns their take, wants everyone to get a percent of it. As far as I'm concerned, I price my organics appropriate to theamount ofwork it takes.

If dathomir carnivore meat gets a great shift, I'll kill rancor all day. The rancor may yield more meat but they also hit hard and tagteam. My price for the meat in this instance? 45cpu. Why? Time is an issue. The risk of death (the thought of nightsisters spawning 10m away and hitting me for 2k damage comes to mind) is another. And let us all not forget supply/demand.

As I said above: we are the hunters, we are the few, and we are the price setters. I couldn't be more plain than that. If you want to charge 80cpu for meat, do it. I'm not, however, going to charge a rate others are charging on other servers. Not only is the community different, but the economy is different.

I do agree, however, that we must band together and stand up for our pricing schemes.

I've come to the conclusion that our lack of attention on the harvesting front is an attempt by the devs to stop the economy from flying out of control. Let me explain:

The biggest problem is that money is too readily avaliable. Most of the money comes from destroy missions and people can do much harder destroy missions when they can buff and heal themsevles constantly or be buffed and healed (mostly be buffed). Given what the /con system says we should not be easily able to kill white or yellow cons and should be lucky to kill red cons - buffing completely upsets this system( Actually it upsets many systems - for example how many people would be running round in composite armour if the buffs system wasn't so powerful). Fact is there are simply too many people getting buffed. Because people are getting buffed all the time before hunting there is far too much of everything (organics, loot & cash) in the system - much more than was expected I'd wager.

So that takes us to crafting the buffs. The main problem with this is docs getting the organic component (i.e. meat) which brings it back to us as we "should" be the main suppliers of that meat. If our harvesting increases go up all of these problems get worse. Thats why I think were stuck where we are

On the same token, we have to run more monkey making missions to get a certain amount of meat (than if we had a higher harvest amount). So we are part of the problem when it comes bringing monkeys INTO the economy.

Totally. What we need is a better tracking system so we don't have to be making monkey's and harvesting at the same time. Ideally harvesting + monkey making should be discouraged but atm there is no better way to find the animals we need to harvest (/tracking just isn't up to the job unfortunately). The thing is as it stands well be making slightly less monkeys from destroy missions but they'll be more meat in the market which is still a huge problem (as the harvesting rates were talking about are going to exponentially make the amounts larger). We also have to factor in that if we get thatpeople might seeus as more of a viable class and hence decide to join our ranks making the problem bigger. It seems to me they want to encourage rangers to be a minority as we are the only farming class.

To add to that - Buff prices need to be high to discourage people from using them in everyday hunts. More meat means cheaper buffs which is bad for the economy.

I completely agree. Someone was shouting at a starport they wanted to buy 2k bone, any quality. Usually when I hunt rancors I harvest bones and hide if nothing is good on them atm, so I offered to sell it to him for 5cpu. He refused saying it was an outrageous price and that was that. Then I got to thinking as I walked off about how much that 2k bones cost me to get.

  • 5k to get to and from Dathomir

  • 10k for buffs (20k if I die while in the field)

  • 2 hours including shuttle times, waiting for a group to form (Novice TKA), and actual hunting times

  • Weapon/Armor maintainence costs and more...

So even if I had managed to sell the bone for 5cpu, I still would've been losing out. Granted I got more than 2k bone while out there, not many people want or need grind quality bone. I've been trying to contact all the career rangers (for some reason I have some underlying hate for grinding rangers, I refuse to train them)I see in an attempt to drive up prices. The highest I've seen any organic go for is 150cpu, Naboo avian, and only one buyer was offering that much (it actually may have been a crafter's guild), Right now Corellian Carnivore meat is very good with 2 mods in the 900's, but no one's paying over 35 cpu, save for the same guy that bought the avian a week or so ago.

If any of you Kettemoor rangers want to contact me, my ingame name is Cerstian.

I agree that we should be charging more and stubbornly refuse to lower our price but it seems a daunting proposition when someone always seems to undercut and not care about the profession.

IMO the problem is hologrinding. People want vast quantities of meats for cheap so they can grind to get to their next profession.

No one cares about quality, no one cares how long it takes you to get the product, other hologrinders will sell it for practically nothing because they just harvested to get the xp.

This whole Jedi program is pretty pathetic.
