Thread: Idea for new SL skills, Any rangers have a problem with this?
Just my 2 Bits:
Fortified Position
consists of:
Base Camp -crafted by a Ranger
FortificationEnhancement - crafted by a Squad Leader (Defense mod)
optional components:
Medical Enhancement - crafted by a Combat Medic (Healing Bonus)
Crafting Enhancement - crafted by a Master Artisan (Crafting Bonus)
Assembled by:
Someone in the Architect Tree, perhaps the installation designer, in a similar fashion to adding special features to a weapon or armor.
This promotes interdependency and makes it a little more difficult to obtain. By doing this, no one profession "owns" this structure, rather it is a collaboration.
First of all to say thanks to OmegusNeo for coming to this boardand floating the idea's with us.The thought is much appreciated.
Personally I've no objection to the idea's put forward. Although ranger camps do need improvement as they stand I don't think offence/defence bonuses should be one of them. Allow a SL to augment our camps so that we can gain these benefits and allow SL's to build them as stand-alone kits for lesser bonuses.
Just my thoughts.

Of course, as soon as you attacked something, it would automaticallybe abandoned.
well that would be one of the major differances between camps and Fortifications. fortifications would not disband durring combate because they are supposed to be used in combat.
OmegusNeo wrote:why would I post a new SL ability sugguestion on the ranger forum? no im not lost, this idea isnt mine but we have been discussing it amoung the other SLs and a couple of us thoguht we should bring it up here because there may be some rangers that would have a problem with the idea.
the orginal thread is here:

please dont freak out by the titlethe general idea is that Squad leaders would get a kit item, like a camp, that when set up it provides increaded defences for members of the group inside the temporary stucture. and posibly increaded SL skills as well.
but, ITS NOT A CAMP, these kits would not preovide any healing bonuses, wound healing, entertainer permitions, or anything that the ranger and scout camps provide. they simply increase melee and ranged defences during combate. i sugguested calling them 'Fortification kits'
i personaly belive that if this was added to SL it wouldnt take anything away form rangers, these kits would not reduce the need for ranger/scout camps, but we thought the Rangers should be aware of this sugguestion in case for some reason you do feel this sugguested addition would hurt your profession in some way.
First of all, no, I don't think SL's should have the fortified camp. It sounds remarkably like the Hunting Blind that Rangers have always wanted and will receive(hopefully)in the future, and I personally think high-level camps like that should be only in the Ranger domain.(much like tracking....dirty BH's....)
However, I would like it if the SL's could buff the camps. I'm not talking small buffs either, SL is an elite and hard to attain profession and thus should warrant massive buffs. Not just on the hunting blinds either, all scout and Ranger camps. Buffs would consist of melee and ranged defense or offense bonuses, healing speed increase, perhaps a DoT mind heal, and heck, maybe even turrets or some other type of defense. And whatever else you can think of, all proportional to skill of course.
This would allow the SL to buff up their own Scout camps, and would work still better on the more advanced Ranger camps. Not taking away from either profession, but adding to the effectiveness of both. So the end result would be:
SL + Ranger in PVE - Ownage
That's the way to go.
I have zero problems with this. A Squad Leader is already an accomplishedscout (Not a master scout an accomplished scout remember they need Survival IV and Exploration IV). This merely builds off of survival IV. A ranger may not do this because it doesn't fit with whata Ranger is. A Ranger is a survivalist not a squad leader. Our camps are for making life in the wild easier. Since you are required to have survival IV and this merely builds off of Survival IV then have at it and good luck.
/supports this camp.

all of a sudden you have a forward command center! now that would be not only fun, but might put some strategy into mass pvp
*Imagines a kreetle spawning on top of a ranger and aggroing him causing the HTFB to disband*

It does seem like more rangers are for it , than are against it. *mutters, kicks dirt and complains*.
Suppose these things were implimented to the SL profession. How are you planning to integrate it into the way hunting works? As I previously mentioned, right now people go out and find mobs. If you wanted to somehow incorporate foritifcations into your hunting strategy, you would need to somehow bring the mobs back to your camp? Doesnt that sort of go against the way things work now? Do you have any ideas on how you could make these improvements to the SL profession (even though I think they belong to the ranger profession *whinge whinge whinge*) and not completely change the way hunting works atm ? Maybe it wont be an issue at all?
Just thinking points..

Reading the SL Forum thread, it strikes me that most people are leaning towards the 'SL's buff and fortify existing camps' viewpoint.
That's the way to go.
and those would be mostly the rangers, the real majority of the people on the SL forum want independant fortifications that can be combined with camps if we choose to use them in that way

well fortifications would be most useful in PvP combat where you would want to hold a position for a good length of time. such as the enterance to a Player HQ. but you could also use them for hunting if your up agenst a very difficult enemy. for regular hunting they would be more of a waist of resourses to use the fortification. but if you wanted to use a fortifed position to its maximum value you could set it up near a lair and kill things as they spawn fomr your portected heaven, then if you run out of things to kill, send out a Ranger!!! to track down near by game and lure it back to the frortified position where therest of the group would be waiting to gun it down

That'd be great, except you can't put a camp down next to a lair. Sounds like what you need is a 'lure' of some kind... hmmm where could we get a lure? DEVS?
