I totally agree Omegus. Your fortification idea is much less taking from another profession then my idea.

i really would hate to see a shared skill that would make SL almost unnessicay.

Same here.

But for a ranger it's not keeping a group together, but picking a path that is easiest to travel, and changing terrain like cutting brush away etc. to make it easier for non rangers to pass by. That's what a ranger is highered for. To help you get through the rough stuff easier and faster. That's all I was thinking of. But if I want it, then I can just spend the points for SL. I already qual for novice.

I do like the idea of ranger putting up FB, and SL coming along and putting up his "fortfications" to protects against NPC like bases do and like how our camps repel creatures. Great fun with that.

well, you do have a point there.... a while ago there was some discusion on the SL boards about an ability that increases normal running speed. terrain Nav only increases speed while going up hills and while prone, but an ability to increas the over all speed while running for groups might be put to good use for rangers.

call it 'group path finding' any one in a group with a ranger (the ranger is not required to be the Leader) will recive a speed bonus to their normal running speed, not as fast as burst run but faster then normal. this would be useful for traviling long distances, groups with a ranger would be able to arrive at their destinaitons faster and have more time to do missions or what ever. and groups with a ranger and a SL would be able to get to their destination fast and all at the same time.

like i said this was original brought up for SLs but i dont thinks its going to go very far so if you wanna try pushing it on the ranger board be my guest....

Disclaimer: this is not nor ever was my orginal idea, this is based off of posts made on the SL forums and therefore i can and will not take credit for these ideas. should anything disbute break out over which profession should have this ability i here by claim no responcibilities to these ideas and therefore can not be blamed should any one get pissed off. parties may use these sugguestions at there own disgresion and by reading this paragraph accept all responcibilies thereby intails

i do not know if you are aware that one of the pre-requiernements for novice SL is all 4 levels of Scouting Survial. so all SLs are required to have knowledge of how to set up temporary stucutres. that said it makes sence that we would have the ability to set up a strucutre that increase melee and ranged defecnes.

the rangers Domain, as you put it, is for setting up a safe laocation for healing, as well as have a master over his environment. that what camps are for and no one will take that away from you. i certinly dont want to, i am attemting to learn the frounteering branch after all i dont want my work to go to waist now...

in my oppinion its the SLs Domain, to preovide support for a group in combat situations. and this is why we should be able to use Fortificaiton kits that can stand alone or be usd in combination with camps.

Yeah, we are supposed to be getting something similar anyway. So, that somewhat defeats the purpose of this, right?

I like the idea but our camps are suppose to repel aggressive creatures already but dont work.. We are also suppose to receive a hunting blind so we will no be detected from mobs until we aggro and even after that this hunting blind is suppose to stay up.

Keep the ideas going it seems the Devs need some lessons in creativity.

Ok, one of the main complaints of rangers is that when you leave a base it disappears after a set amount of time. It makes sense to me that if a squad leader is in a group he can 'fortify' the base so that it can stand to have no one there. This coupled along with the ability to sign a camp over to someone temporarily, say your groups doctor or combat medic, makes PvP a larger part of the game. I mean it is Star Wars Galaxies, A Galaxy Divided, not SWG the new frontier where everyone does everything themselves and their isn't a galactic civil war going on...

I think the idea of fortifying should be directectly proportional to the camping side of Ranger...IE

If you can build a HTFC then the SL must have the fourth tier of "Fortification"To help balance and make this character stand out I think it wouldn't be ill advised to take the ability to build thebase camps they learned as scouts in order to allow them to build fortification structures.

Examples of fortification structures would be LVL 1 trench basic defense bonuses for ranged, LVL 2 fortified trench(with sandbags) bonus defense against ranged and melee, LVL 3 Combat nest, no trench sandbags and a turret laser gun usable by players such as SL and Commandos, LVL4 Pillbox dug out and roofed with kill holes, laser turret, bonus to all defense including area affect damage from grenades.

There, hows that sound

Note, the Hunting blind makes sense for rangers, its a Tracking and Stalking and Cover related... Mask Scent etc... Its a NON AGRESSIVE structure/camp thingy heh...

Stand Alone fortifications for COMBAT related purposes that give buffs to Ranged Deffense and Volley Fire * an SL Skill* No health bonuses... These fortifications can be made in combat, hence their usefulness to an SL...

This really doesn't take anything from Ranger... And if we can COMBINE our abilities when grouped together, we could make a better camp working together... A fortified position...

I don't see any problems here, and I haven't heard to many... But if there are some, please please PLEASE tell me, so I can figure out a way to make it work. If it infringes on what Rangers are capable of, tell me how and where, tell me whereexactly a Rangers skill lay when it comes to Camps etc...?

I think the SLs fortifications will be Offensive Deffense related bonuses and buffs...

I think Rangers for the most part are Repel Creatures and Regenerative and Healing Buffs...

am I wrong or...? You can tell I am passionate for this idea...

i to would like to find a way to make this work, this is the frist really good idea ive seen for SLs that i have felt this strongly about, and i am making it my personal mission to keep pushing this until the DEVs take notice.

if any rangers have a problem with it speak now so we can work the bugs out of the idea now.

I think that is a great idea...for many reasons

It has been stated from the get go that SWG is supposed to foster teamwork and interdependency in both hunting and the economy. For a SL to create an add on for the Ranger Camp is exactly what we have been asking for. And it supports the goals of the game. When a ranger and a SL work in conjunction, then the entire squad benefits.

As the squad leader increases their skill, the first addon could be a hasty trench, second could be firing positions, third could be anything, but you catch my drift. The better the SL and better the Ranger, then the better the joint camp should be.

My two creds

Sorry to be a wet blanket, but I'm not for this idea.

1) Right now, it does not come into conflict with what rangers are currently capable of, because, well because we have pretty low capabilities Right now our main practical skill is to hunt out creatures. That's it. Camping as it stands for the moment is next to useless (IMHO, and from the hunts I have been on. There has never been a 'need' to camp, other than to pull out a pet). So no, your ideas do not tread on any toes concerning what rangers are currently able to do.

2) HOWEVER, the ideas you present are great. Fairly original, practical and would make the game better. It's exactly what I would have in mind for the frontiering tree.It gives camps a reason to exist, and that's precisely what I think is lacking. So, while these ideas are not imposing on our current abilities, I think they do impose on what our abilities should be.

3) To say that the ranger's skills lie in regenerative buffs and healing, (reducing downtime) isnt practical. Through all my experience, no one has ever sat down and thought 'wow, I sure am healing fast in this camp'. But rather, they say 'MEDDDIIICCCCC' and a quick stimpack fixes them up nicely. Got some wounds? The local doctor scuttles across and gives you a quick injection and you are all fixed. The rangers camps are definitely NOT used to reduce downtime. Instead, rather, when there is a downtime (for example the doctor has died and we are waiting for him to return, someone ran off to get some training, you are having a quick tea break) -thats- when the camp comes out. Simply because it looks pretty, and unfortunately, for no other reason.

4) To add fortifications to a camp opens up a whole different kettle of fish. Because it would change the way hunting is run. I cant speak in PvP terms as I've not been involved in the GCW, but from a planetary hunt's perspective, you take your group and you find things to kill. Should you give camps some kind of fortifications, then you would be encouraging people to 'fight from' the camp. instead of trecking off to find things to kill, they might now be encourage to bring things back to the camp. Or to only fight what is around the camp. I havnt really thought this point through and so cant convey it very well, but I dont think it would really work with the way hunting currently runs. Maybe though - who knows

5) I think the buffs are a great idea. The longer someone stands in a camp, the more buff they should get. The higher level the camp is - the more buff they should get. Great idea, I love it, kudos etc. However I think it should be a ranger ability. Sorry.

6) I do like the idea of an interdependancy between SL and Rangers. Both of them are support classes when it comes to planetary hunting (although the SL has uses in PvP as well). I think they should have some sort of interdependancy, and relationship. However I dont think this is it. Perhaps, the buffs a camps give should be further increased depending on the skill of a SL. Sure I suppose that could work.As for other ideas? Not sure. I will have a think

I dont know, and I'm sorry to have a go at your ideas. They ARE good ideas, but I just think that if they were implimented, you take away any potential the rangers camps might have in the future. I believe that anything to do with semi permanent fixtures in the field should be related to the frontiering line.

ShamadConde,

what about area track? its that useful? and i use camps all the time thats why im learning the entire frontering tree in additon to SL.

i do see your point that you would like these change made to Ranger i mean its a really really good idea, my only reason for not wanting it to be part of ranger is that rangers are outdoormen, ranger abilites are better used in the wild. that's why the hunting blind that ive been hearing about is a better idea for rangers.

a SL is a person that leads a group of people into battle, and they have to know things like how to manage their group and startigies for tactical combat, thats why fortified stuctures are a better idea for us, we are a combat support proffestion while Ranger is more ofa hunting support profession. im pushing to make fortification a major addition to PvP combate. rangers just dont seem like they are the PvP type, their fouse seems like it more directed toward PvE.

Well we have our skills that work against creatures, why not make them work against players aswell, so we could do better in PvP.

Omegus,

What I meant with the track comment, is I see the most useful skill in our arsenal to be track. I also see people (mostly bounty hunters) pick up ranger just for the tracking tree. To be honest, I am gaining theother three trees for RPvalue only. And what's more, I dont findtrack that useful either - but that's me

The justification I see behindrangers holding thefrontiering line is this. Rangers are supposedly outdoorsmen(people). By living out in the wilderness, surviving on their own, they will need todevelop knowledge on how to create makeshift homes whenever they get sleepy and decide to take a rest. Hence - the camping skills. Now, as it happens, sometimesfate will have them mix themselves up with other adventurers, and when they do, these other adventurers can take advantage of all the campingskills the ranger has picked up while out on their own.

Now - I agree. The Squad Leader is the person taking the 'leadership' role in any group (that is not to say, however, that they are always the individual taking 'point' or 'leading from the front'. Many commanders are nowhere near the front lines ) But I dont agree that this justifies them being given skills to fortifiy any camp. I believe the squad leader should be given skills to enhance the effectiveness of a group, not necessarily the camp the group stays at.

I also believe that these skills arent really appropriate for the other reasons I mentioned in my previous post. I am sorry to put a dampener on things. I think the SL is another profession that needs work (and I think I'd be hurt if someone cut down any ideas I had for improving the rangers). But at the same time, I dont believe that the suggestions you've given are appropriate for the squad leader class.

I'll have a think as I make dinner tonight about some possible skills for squad leaders. I seem to do my best thinking as I burn food. It's weird.
