Thread: Discussion on the advocation of Creature enhancements vs. General enhancements to Rangers

Let's hope that the combat rebalance actually makes this a reality. As it stands, as a Master Swordsman I fear no beast in the wild. It would be great if red-con creatures really were deadly, but could be taken down by a highly skilled Ranger.
With out direct combat enhancements, that statement will be exactly the same as every other Dev statement about Rangers, empty promises, and hollow statements.

Sorry I lost ya.
Dear JuCat,
Maybe I misuderstood your question...
You asked us how (As a Ranger) I benefit being stuck with PvE and howwould I let myself from accepting the fact that I am deprived from being part of the GCW? (My translation of your question.)
As some has already mentioned: Ranger is a lifestyle
As some has already said before: Being Ranger, we sacrifice the ability to succsesfully participate in PvP (I guess, a lot of us are not very interested in PvP as we remain dedicated to Rangership)
Do I feel deprived from acitvely participating in the GCW? -No, Not at all.... I let the uber combat "templaters" do what they do best and us do what we do best... (Spy, I find player IMP bases for example !)
Do I feel that I indirectly participate in the GCW? Yes, The resources I collect are used for medicines and armor, so I add to the success rate of a PvPer... The IMP bases I locate I report back to my allies whom in turn will organize an attack.
Am I proud of, as you mentioned, being resticted to hunting down creatures? Yes, as an example: Yesterday I helped a friend collect herbivore meat for free, and he was mighty impressed by the efficiency I detected our specific targets. (Being a Ranger, doesn't mean anything unless you really know how to be one)
I take pride in performing what we are suppose to do the best, being the BEST hunters and trackers around. (I see no shame in taking pride for that.)
Anyway, you said you had lost me... Well, what I wanted to say is that your question has been answered in so many different way on these forums..... And when you asked your question I took it for granted you had never read the Ranger Forum before... So, when you replied that you had been reading them for over a year, I got very confused..... I though, that you should know better than to ask such obvious question (I mean no disrespect, please don't take my comment as such).
Anyway, I might just have misunderstood your question... It wouldn't be the first time, I've done that
Be well, Xinea

just my view of it, but since we spend so much time out in remote wilderness, and are pretty good at surviving for long periods of time in said wilderness we stumble upon some things most people wouldn't necessarily find if you catch my drift. /areatrack just lets us find out how many bad guys are hanging out inside the bases without having to get too close
O how i wish we could spend so much time in the remote wilderness, but I'm always having to head back to lagville X to get BF healed.
gotcha though, thx
How does a Rangers abilities and skills allow him to locate player bases? Is there some hidden well kept secret to making /areatrack work better? I was really looking for some real time PoV's, thank you for yours.
Once in a while, I am asked to perform planet search for bases.... It takes me about3 hours per planet quadrant (NW, NW, SW and SE quadrants)... so it normally takes me 4 days to do a thourough planet search. I lay a "grid line" on one single quadrant and "walk the grid".... Just as if I was searching for a Krayt but instead I search for people.
Once I have found a base I note it's defensesand report back to the requestee.
The only trick is to have a grid and to take your time for the the game to update your areatrack radius... if you areatrack too fast you might just not detect a base standing just 100 meters away

One thing that may help shed light on this issue is that we were told that the Devs decided we were to be the ultimate creature hunters. That is, in part, why we focus on the PvE aspects of things.
Have we not been told many things by the Devs, that have been completely 180'd. i.e. the original skill/prof descriptions didn't match the reality for most professions...
I plan to ask them if that is still our future....
Does that necessitate that most post/ideas should advocate a narrow vision of the profession (just my opinion), in stead of being well rounded, in most aspects of the game....
I would argue that a 'narrow'professionis exactly why one chooses to be a certain profession. That is why I don't think we should have herbal healing and other skills that belong to another profession. No one chooses to bea crafter so they can be better at combat. They stack if they want to be a combatant. I am all for traps working on humanoids, including PCs, but we were told 'no way.' I also think we should have some role in combat, but the reality is we are creature combatants (as the profession is designed currently). That being said, I think that we never have been intended to be, nor never will be (or should be) Military Rangers. That is what commando's should theorhetically do. That being said, I will still fight for PvP changes if the community agrees that they are for the better (i.e. Stealth), butI don't see why we should become a PvP profession.

That is pretty sweet....![]()
Also, you can use areatrack, to get an idea of the people defending a base, or in a city battle.
One more thing, the key to areatracking, as ShyGirl (which is a misnomer, btw) said, it to let the server catch up with you before you track. Flying in on you swoop at 100m/s hopping off and tracking just doesn't give the game anough time to realize you have stopped moving.
