I am not totally convinced that flying yourself will be much quicker than shuttling...but, then, who knows?
well even if it isn't faster, at least it'll be more fun than waiting in a starport

It certainly couldn't be worse than waiting in a starport.

Sure thing, I used to play descent over kali. Ahh those were the days, younger (not young hehe) and my reflexes still good enough to be able to compete with the kids in games like this

Thats not the main problem tho. The problem has been that the developers have been dangling the carrot of the almight combat balence(tm) in front of the playerbase since the end of 2003.
Well, the promise of space combat was around since before this game was even released.
This is similar to the complaining about the two jedi publishes. Everyone complains that it's taking time away from the other professions, yet it seems that EVERYONE wanted the hologrind to end.. and that's the purpose of revamping it.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to JTL and it will keep me PLENTY busy until a ranger revamp. As for the combat balance pushback, I now have more time to enjoy being a master rifleman while it's still powerful.

Jedi are an intergral part of the ground game and the hologrind was a problem for the ground game and effected every single profession out there. Jtl willnot, and cannot, have that much of an effect becuase it is an optional add on.
The two are not comparable.

Sadly there was not room enough on my hard drive for two humongous games and all my work programs (Frame, AutoCAD, Photoshop, Illustrator... damn memory hogs). I may have to invest in some hot-swappable drives lol. Now I really want to play FreeLancer again. The graphics on that game were(are) totally amazing. Easily a match for SWG. I spent a lot of time just wandering around exploring and taking screenshots of amazing spacescapes. I never even finished the single-player version... as soon as I could explore I was out of there. Hmmmm... kinda like being a Ranger in SWG.
FreeLancer had several things I hope they eventually include in JTL:
- You could loot (NPC) ships you killed.
- You could mine asteroid fields by blowing up the rocks and pulling in the metals and ores.
- You had faction with various local enforcement authorities and pirate factions (worked just like SWG factions)
- You could locate the secret pirate bases and take missions there (smuggling drugs) if your faction was good enough. Don't get caught with that stuff though. The authorities did NOT like it.
- Some systems were dangerous to explore, with random mine fields or radioactive stars that would damage you over time.
- You could find derelict ships and loot them. As long as you didn't run foul of whatever had killed them.
- There were jump points and shipping lanes that enabled you to travel from system to system faster. (This could be modified to fit SW I think)
What else?
Ah the ships! Shields, Bombs, Missles, Blasters were all fully customizable. In fact they were VERY much like the modular camp idea where each kind of ship had certain types of slots that took certain types of weapons. So you couldnt mount a Class 4 blaster on a shuttle, you needed a heavy fighter ect. And the guns did different types of damage.
This is really an awesome game. If you are jonesing for JTL and maybe want to take a break from SWG I really REALLY reccomend trying it, if it is still around.

Calc,
I was talking to my wife about it. And I was thinking the same thing about speed. But I thought the devs, and i have been wrong many many times today, said that you would have the option of launching into space or going directly to your target. So that your not a target always.

Whenever I played FreeLancer I always thought "wouldn't it be cool if, instead of just standing inside the door of the cantina and clicking on people to converse and get missions we could actually run around the city?" I didn't even think far enough ahead to imagine the planets as a place where you could interact with other players as well (in FreeLancer the planets and space stations were instanced per player, but space was multiplayer).
