Thread: Focus for Top 5 List: Harvesting
Ditch the ridiculous concept of creature cl as base of harvestable amount.
Or does it make sense to anyone that you can get ~360units (iirc, somewhere in that area at least) of meat from a quite smallish kinad baz nitch and only 120 from a quite massively looking malkloc bull (as one example)?
No but it is a balance thing. Maklocs are cake to take down even though they are large. It would be too easy to get a lot of meat from the large critters with low CL. You would never need to hunt the highCL critters.

I think that the skill point/benefit line is a good one to take
Master Ranger = 140 skill points
Master TK/Novice Scout = 107 skill points
Which one will harvest more over time? The second because of the kill speed. Even if it is:
Master Ranger/Master Rifleman= 232 skill points
Master TK/Novice Scout/Master Rifleman= 199 skill points
the second template - a defence stacker with Novice Scout - is going to be a more efficient harvester over time for a less skill point investment and with numerous other advantages from being a better fighter

Kinad Baz Nitches are 'a cake to take down' too actually ...
And a small hint: Malkloc Bulls are the biggest herbivores on dath that you can pull missions on (only the malkloc plainswalkers of the three different kinds are bigger herbivores there, those are rare enough that it is debatable if it makes sense to specifically hunt those for dath herbivore meat
The basic idea behind this is: There is an issue in 'balance' of amounts of $ressource we can get from specific creatures. The current problematic situation does not only come from the fact that we in general have not high enough harvests, the problems come from an attempt to make reasonable amount of certain meats (for example) that should be expected to be in high demand harder to obtain.
I guess we can agree that avian is the meat in highest demand and herbivore the runner-up?
The attempt to make that avian 'rare' was overstressed leading us to the problem that the second a good avian pops up everyone will go after that. It is tiresome and a lot of work to get decent amounts, leading to the effect that docs hurl out insane prices to get as much as possible from it. If some not-so-good paying other meat/hide pops up in the same time, the ppl needing that will have a hard time to get it.
And this won't change with only an increase of our overall harvests, the relation between the harvestable amounts/time of the various ressources has to be adjusted too (not based entirely and only on CL, ofc still leaving the CL as one part of that calculation in place to make it 'worthwhile' to hunt a bigger creature giving the same type of meat)
Get quality of resources from a creature in the examination window without having to kill it.
Perhaps a master ability...
I like the idea of making certain resources only available to Rangers to harvest. There needs to be more of a need for Rangers in the economy. I view my lot in life as a ranger as a balance between economic and combat, but they are both weak specialities.
Great post btw.

1) Only Rangers should be able to collect certain resources. In a resource shift, there ought to a filter that gives only Rangers the ability to source an organic (something used in Doc buffs, for instance). There must be an incentive to make Ranger so BH's or other don't clean up. Maybe only Rangers should be allowed to collect meat.
