are you crazy? I just keep a house deed in my inventory. sure, a 'camp' might win the hearts of a few GIRLS... but a swank house in your pocket is what keeps the LADIES swooning.

My other combat characterswereranged templates, so I decided I was going to try out melee in TKM. Picked Tradoshan at the startup screen, added MCH on that because I wanted to do something different (and look cool too :smileyhappy
, and with my remaining skill points went Ranger xx3x to complement my race's natural resource gatheringbonuses. I have high resource gathering for a good income (harvestable resources is some of the best money in the game), tracking to help me find babies, and since I can act as a tank, I use my pets to inflict states and DOTs to improve my fighting abilities.
My PC isn't top of the line, so I like to spend long periods of time out in the wilderness where I can crank up my graphics settings without horrible lag. This is the character I play the most right now, and I have a blast playing him. I might start a MRanger on another server to try it out, but I can't bring myself to give up MCH and my babies, andwith my current template the only thing I would want to have are camo kits (no need for camps with Meditate), and those I can live without.
Just a dabbler here, sorry.

Ranger was what turned me into SWG, but when I got the game I explored into combat and PvP. When I called it quits as a defense stacker, I deletedthe character and started a Bothan Ranger/Rifleman. Ever sinse, swg has never been more fun. Being able to conceal froma Kraytor track a Dark Jedi and making camps that turn heads is very satisfying.
The reason why I becamea Rangerwas to be that wanderer in the woods or that traveler on the mountain range. And I use a motto in my bio that suits any ranger, Where I lay my head is home.

I got into ranger because of a guildmate. His character was a master ranger and his character's motto was "I walk in places your mama taught you to fear." I liked the idea of being one of those few who walk in those harrowing places.
It helped that my first character was a doctor/tailor with no combat skills. I needed an outlet for the explorer in me. Furthermore, ranger provided a means for me to supply my own hides and meats for both my crafting areas.
So my motivation was a healthy combination of the romantic and the practical.
The friend who inspired me eventually dropped ranger for CH and then went on to hologrinding and I dropped tailor sometime around the beginning of this year, but the ranger remains.

I decided to work on Ranger because I hadn't done it before (one of the few professions I hadn't done on one of my characters). Other than the Wilderness exp I'm done (sitting in a camp right now and reading the forums, weee). I originally decided to do it for the harvesting bonuses, but after reading here I found that Scout + (droid or food) can out-harvest us. Oh well, I'm still enjoying it, and have no plans to drop it. Would be nice if some of the issues that have been around since launch would be fixed, 15 months later, but then you could probably say that about any profession (except Jedi). Ranger also worked well into my "loner" self-template, I have never had much luck with groups of strangers - if I solo, and die, its my own d@mn fault.

The original reason I selected Ranger as my primary goal was because of the following words, so elegantly stated in the Star Wars Galaxies Adventurer's Manual:
"Adventurer well-suited to travel, tracking, and defending others in combat."
Also, somewhere else, maybe in the same manual, it said "Rangers can placespecial field structures that no other professions can use." I kept with it because I realized I was a wandering/exploring kind of player. I stay with it today because of the community and that distinct attritubte of the profession that we love but cannot put out finger on it.

when i came back to the game after a 2 month break i picked it up because having my own account (used to share one with a friend) meant i had more time to get ranger, which i picked because, its ranger, iteven sounds cool.

Why did i want to be a ranger you say? well it all started way back in Dec of '03 but i won't go into much detail. That would involve saying how i tryed out pretty much every proffesion in the game besides Tailor and Ranger. But for some reason i had always tryed to keep novice scout in my template (yes even when i was WS/architect). After i found that i really like swordsman I looked at ranger cause i've always liked the scout skills and i knew ranger was called a super scout by some. so I made my way up scout, the camping tree was the slowest i must admit i have little to no willpower to sit in a camp even with friend to talk to. And now that i'm at novice, and proud to wear that tag, it feels as if i'm in heaven. So i guess to answer your question i didn't really choose to become one a ranger
i triped over it.

ranger kind of found me too.
a long time ago, back in beta, my roommate got me into the idea of playing a pair of rodian entertainers. she & i never left the coronet cantina. this was maybe the only time in SWG history that people actually roleplayed entertainers. when the game went live we remade our characters... & rapidly got bored (having never actually seen the game outside of the city & all)... one day i bought a cdef rifle & the marksman skills & went out hunting.
i met up with a friend i had made from the cantina, who was lightyears ahead of me (though he only had some marksman & some scout). he gave me a suit of tanteel armor & taught me how to shoot things.
after awhile, as the wounds mounted, he dropped a multiperson tent. i was blown away. the idea that a player could make something that freakin' cool was beyond me...
i asked him how he did it... & then went straight for scout... as soon as i learned that rangers had the best camps in the game i decided i would be one. i have been a ranger/rifleman ever since... i only wish that camps really were as cool as the seemed that first time i saw one.
that & i really dig rangery stuff irl. (camping, fishing, hiking, exploring, etc.)

why did i become a ranger? because the men dig a Twi female who doesn't troll the cantina.
the HTFB impresses them so easily.

I have a MBE on Naritus, and I was forced to retire because I just couldn't find anyone to sell me meat at a reasonable rate. So, I created a ranger on Shadowfire so I could know what it feels like to be able to collect lots of meat whenever I want. It really makes no sense.

well, there was the impressive of men...but also Uhrim loves to hunt. there is nothing like being surrounded by a circle of dead prey to her. of course she has nothing but respect for the things she kills, which is a lot more than i can say about most PvPers. and then thre is all the alone tim eout in the wilderness...the fantastic camps..my guild uses my camps as meeting points.

I was an EQ Ranger for 3.5 years, a no school archer in AC1, I was a miner/explorer in both EnB and Eve, and now a Ranger in SWG.
So I have always been into exploring, being self sufficient and to a lesser extent resource gathering.
I wielded twoswords in EQ, I would love to be able to wield twoswords in SWG, if not two swords then two pistols.
I digress
