At it stands right now, you can not get the bonus from your own skills (i.e. a Master Ranger does not get a 40% bonus unless he is grouped wtih another Master Ranger).

Or 5: Drop three of your Ranger trees and boost up your healing skills.

Me? Honestly, if this goes in as is, I'm going to be disheartened. This is the first time I've ever considered dropping Ranger trees. The idea that a SCOUT can outharvest me in ANY situation--grouped or not--is just not right. Heck, the idea that ANYONE can out harvest me at ANY time isn't right. Should a grouped Master Marksman be able to outshoot a solo Master Rifleman? Novice Doctor be able to outbuff a Master?

Not to mention this has been a big part of my bread and butter, and with the changes, we get a LOT more competition. I don't mind some, it's healthy and keeps prices reasonable, but we'll have docs getting groups of 0040 scouts together and outharvesting us like nuts. Less customers, period.

But if I keep Ranger--and I really want to, I've always adored it--I'll still solo because I don't have much choice. Half my guild has moved to WoW, the other half is either on at different times than me or has no combat skills. I don't much care for grouping with strangers because I wind up either babysitting or getting killed.

So a solo Ranger I will remain. Penalized. Greatly.

Yeah, I seen that quote thrown around a lot over the past couple of days as a way to get the "no bonus, no penalty" point across.

Sorry, but adding a bonus to grouping in no way "enforces" grouping.

If you were ever to read more carefully, I never stated that. Anywhere...

Ill group, ill solo but ill be looking for groups. Groups are great fun, its what these games are all about and it should always be desirable.

And stop using the "enforcing" crap because it isnt true. If you dont group do you think a csr will ban you? If you dont group do you think the reds will slap you down? No they wont. Solo and you play normally, group and you get group bonus, thats it.

My favourite times in the game and any other mmo have come from the first few weeks of playing. Grouping with 15 mates on rori all noob and all kicking the crap out of squalls or around AH on Tat hunting down imperials with no buffs, no armour and having the bestest of times. I long for those days to return, we are heading in the right direction.

Here we go. You don't feel like being forced to group, well good for you. Some other do feel that way. It's is not your place or task trying to alter people's opinions, nor is mine. For you it's crap, for me it's an issue to which i'm open to for suggestions (see the other huge thead). So far no one was able to remove my concerns hence I will stick with MY PERSONAL OPINION.

Dariane, for what it's worth, you asked for an opinion. Your initial premise, from the subject line, implies that you feel thet grouping is somehow being 'enforced'. People are basing their initial response to the thread on that. Some agree, some disagree, some frankly could care less because tehy see that hey'll carry on playing in exactly the same way they already do and changes to the game mechanic are just that, changes.

We adapt.

Don't get hung up about the *stars, for all you know it was somebody who hasn't even contributed to the thread. We've even had people being *starred because they made a post in another forum where someone disagreed with them and somebody from THAT forum took time to go downgrade their posts.

Switch the ratings off. Accept that if you ask for an opinion you are effectively asking people to disagree with you and remember that, at the end of the day, it's just a game.

I'm guessing that the problem some people have with your original post is that you put that opinion right in the subject line of a supposed poll thread. That gives the impression that your not really taking a poll, but just using the post to try to sway people to your point of view.

As was my intention. Yet the point I was curious about is why people started on a know personal opinion to rate a person... That just boggles me...

Hehe, I couldn't care less about how many stars I've got. I only wanted to know why people would do such a thing. I used it ocassionaly before but stopped it cause I realised myself all of it is so measured from a person's perspective that the rating doesn't mean a thing.

It was just my curiosity to know why people would actually lower the rating as it is simply an opinion, not a fact for which I asked feedback.

In all honesty I cannot understand that at all.

Quote from the initial post:

"Just curious about this. Let's assume devs won't listen and push it forward as it is, giving soloist a penalty and the group a bonus, not including the person who gives the bonus to the group (or only in a lesser extent)."

If you going to read a poll, you read the first post where some of the poll options are give, because the headline never covers the complete story behind it all.The first alinea clearly indicates:

a) it's a personal thing, not a fact

b) it's not to be used to sway people's opinion

c) it's completely hypothetical

So IMHO everyone rating on thinking of the reasons specified by previous post, should get glasses and read the lines better next time.

That part could be asking for a negative response too. The devs pushing out the group bonus does not mean that they aren't listening. As has already been established, there are many rangers who want a group bonus. Plus, the devs have already proven that they are listening. The group bonus was going to be just a 20% bonus with no link to having a ranger in the group. The increases for grouping with rangers came from discussion on this forum.

Then again, maybe I'm just over analyzing this. There's no way to figure out why you get star rated. In the end, i agree with everyone who advised that you turn them off, or ignore them. I've been 1 starred in the past for just answering a simple question.

Opions are welcome but one thing is for certain, we are NOT being forced to group at all.

There is simply incentive to group now meaning you will get a bonus when in group. You do not get penalised if you are solo, you get normal rates.

Everyone is welcome to their own opinions but when you put a title up suggesting something that isnt true then obviously you will get negative feedback.

Oh and whats with the recent influx of 'lots of rangers think the same as me so my opinion must be important' posts? Your opinion has always been represented so i dont need reminding how to do the job in every post. Yes you have an opinion, some agree, some disagree, both sides will be represented. Im getting prety sick of that response and its getting old.

If it makes you feel better, go for it! I have yet to rate anyone on this whole harvesting thing because, as you said, we are all entitled to our opinion. Here's a hint...you don't like one stars, either stop posting (I am being sarcastic)or turn off the system becuase they are a fact of life on these forums.

Titles are the first impression for the thread. Quite often, in oither forums (I read everything here), I won't even enter a thread if the title is of poor quality (such as leet speak or 'the devs hate us' kind of titles).
