I will be pleasantly surprised if anything the correspondants can do anything to change things at this point.

From the In-Live Issues thread:

Bethya wrote:
I am deeply disappointed that you have gone live with the harvesting changes as they are. I can only assume that you do, indeed, ignore the Ranger forums completely and in particular the most lively, wide ranging and populous discussion there has been on any topic since I have joined this game. When you announced this change in testing, the community went mad and the discussion is still going on.

You have put a system in place that means that a Master Ranger is now out-harvested by someone with xx4x Ranger skills (providing a Master Ranger is in the group). How can that possibly be right? As far as I am concerned that is a bug and so I am reporting it here in this thread.

My Ranger colleagues tested the changes out extensively on TC. We came up with solid hard data that proved the case and the idiocy of the numbers. We went about it the right way. Our Correspondent went about it the right way - feeding back to you with all the info you needed. Yet still you chose to ignore it.
It's a simple change to make - we simply want Master Rangers to get more harvesting oomph for themselves, either grouped or solo. Otherwise, what possible motivation have we got for improving everyone else's harvests when we do not see a benefit to our own harvest?

We are the ones who live and die by what we can harvest. This is our profession. We were prepared to wait for our revamp, we are being patient while the GCW and CURB happen but now you've just added insult to injury.

The rest of the changes look good and you are to be congratulated for them. We recognise that the rest of the harvesting, non-Ranger community, will be very pleased with these changes and we're glad for them. However, you are penalising those of us who have mastered our profession and we are not even vaguely happy about it.

All I can say to the population of FarStar who might want a Master Ranger to join their hunt and improve their harvesting is this. Do not, under any circumstances, ask me for help because you won't get any. I have joined my last group until this issue is addressed.

We will get this fixed.

I agree to only group with friends, but that is what I always have done hehe. I have no problems with the harvesting patch, it has pros and cons. My big beef is the amount of difference between what a master scout harvests compared to what a ranger harvests. It should be 3 or 4 times as much. I look at differences between master medic and master doc, combat medic. Remarkable aren't they? They should exist between Master Ranger and Scout and it doesn't. A master scout is a boy scout who goes out on the weekends. A ranger lives out there all week long. Double the skill points should account for something and it doesn't right now.

I agree.

I admit that these changes will remove my resistence to grouping because of the penalty. But then, so would had just removing the penalty. I hope that master rangers do resist in joining groups of "spam in a can" (as JB calls them) 0040 scouts too. Otherwise people who want/choose to play solo are really going to get slapped in the face.

As for what you said about medics, I think this bonus system now sets a precident, "greater medics" should benefit "lesser medics".

I just read the 13.1 issues thread and saw Bethya's post there and also SOETyrant's reply. I just wanted to say to Bethya, good job and you deserve a cookie.

I think Bethya has done us all a profound dis-service in representing the Ranger community as little more than a whiny bunch of uber-looter wantabes. The very thingwhich we workso very hardas a coummunity to avoid. I'm sorry, in this case, to see a Ranger get first response to a patch update.

The very idea thatwhat we as community are now on the record as labeling this very positive, very significant improvement in our ability to interact with group, provide support, and increase our own harvest, as "idiocy" and "a bug" I suspect has greatly undone much of the excellent work Owen and Cal(supported by an amazing core group of Rangers) have done on our behalf. We are fortune in the extreme (again I suspect because of the professional, mature, work done and presented on our behalf by the O & C) that Thunderheart didn't just tell us to stick a Krettle up our a$$.

Could the harvesting upgraded be made more favorable to Master Rangers? Yes. Would I also like to have a Ranger-only-lighsaber-auto-harvesting-stealth-NPC-trap-of-death? You bet'ya. But this upgrade is 90% good for everybody. If we have suggestions on how to cover that last 10% I feel that we have failed (at least are failing) to present our opinions to SOE in a manner that is likely to engender a positive response.

When you say all that, are you taking into account the extreme sense of frustration felt by everybody? Are you taking into account that the system as published is unbalanced? Are you taking into account that many rangers spent a lot of time collecting data to test the system? Are you taking into account that SOE announced that the system would be published an seemingly ignored all that testing (rather than saying "ok we won't publish until we fix these issues")? Are you taking into account that no matter how much work the correspondants have done the devs do not give any outward appearence of taking notice, and the effect this has on the community? Are you even taking into account the amount of time and I expect, restraint that whent into Bethya's post?

In fact, I'd go so far as to say Bethya's post got the most publicly and openly positive response from a SOE person to any ranger. Given that it was a single sentence shows how uncommunicative to the general player base they are.

Are you taking into accout that changes take time?

Yes this change has gone live which is unfortunate, but that doesnt mean its over. Ive been pushing for changing it ever since they announced the revision and i think we have definatly made progress. As for when the change hit live, i dont know, there is alot on the devs plates atm and many many bugs and issues being addressed with the GCW changes so efforts would be split between working on these issues.

Idsay be optimistic and just because changes havnt gone live yet, it doesnt mean they are not coming and certainly that you are being ignored (because i know for a fact the devs have seen and acknowledge all our feelings on this topic).

I expect there to be a change and i wont give up until there is one, so sit back and wait for the changes.

"I've worked over on TC for nearly a year and have seen this happen on publish after publish. BUT I also know that the feedback that we put through does go somewhere, that very often there are OTHER changes that have to take precedence and something like the harvest rates can be fixed 'later' with a Hotfix."
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When I read this I immediately pictured the ending of Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. Where a warehouse guy is pushing a box on a cart in a room filled with boxes. I can almost imagine SOE has a room like this where they store all the comments and feedback and respond when asked that they have "TOP" people working on this.

Anyway thanks for the feedback.
