I'm sticking to the Master Ranger/Master Rifleman combo. I just bought some comp. armor and refitted it to Bone Battle armor. Then I hopped on over to Dathomir and I'm not really having any problems taking down rancors. I'm taking them out faster now than I was before. Now I just need to find thebigger rancors. The plain old enraged ones just aren't doing it for me.

This 12 hours I will be trying out:

Master Ranger 0/0/4/0

Master Bounty Hunter 4/4/4/4

Master Scout 4/4/4/4

Master Marksman 0/0/4/4

Master Carbineer 0/4/0/4

The recoil of the Elite Carbine in my hands is delicious.

Only Black Suns knock me down .. All other NPCs fall and die.

I've knocked down Jedi Knights in friendly non-death blow duels.

I still track, harvest and bring home the meat, hide and bone.

There is a little growl inside megetting louder by the hour "Abandon all hope..." making me wonder if I'll ever return to the.."life".

I've come up with an interesting template, but it means completely dropping ranger

Master Bounty Hunter + Master Commando + Scout 4344

The general ranged and melee defences are insane, never mind the damage output. Well compared to the levels of which that a master ranger could hope to have anyway.

I didn't use buffs or uber armour, so why did the combat revamp have to spoil my game?

OK pets seem to be a complete waste of time at lower levels as the mob attacks me every time I shoot it, since my pets do such a small amount of damage.

Sooo I am very close to being MR, BH 0/4/4/4 and skill points allowing, medic 0/0/4/0, which will give me a 'stim free', 300 point heal every 15 seconds.

is Master Ranger Master Bounty Hunter or your template even viable? I tried Master Ranger/Bounty Hunter on test center and it hardly does any damage at all that I found, that is the template I most want, gotta love the master bounty hunter carbine Think its the Proton Carbine just looks so natural on a ranger.

I am not dropping my template either due to the fact that if I try a melee template i will be forced to completely eliminate all my carb tree to move my marksman points over and possibly all myscout(and ranger that goes along with it) to compensate. But for the easy to kill animals.. I am not holding my breath.

I had great hopes for survival on my friendly home of Tattooine, umm, until i took a desert squil lair. So much for taking on mobs.. rofl. Not only do they kd me in less than 2 minutes but their ratings are insanely underated(19 for this particular lair). I took a normal squill lair and they are marked level 80 besides a pack of wild banthas equally skilled!! When they adjust the weaker animals I believe they will fix the easy to kill harsh animals as well.

Now it resembles Yavin4 to me... LOL. Some animals are easy to kill but if they group, start running!!! Although trying other templates would be a nice breath of fresh air, I am tried and true to Ranger as well as Carbineer. Even though I was bored senseless before CU, they have protected me and kept me on my feet running.. lol.

I hate to say it but the CL we get from Ranger is a pain in the butt, still, I am hoping that I can solo white cons, even of it takes me a while to kill them, whilst healing myself. My Laser Rifle has 300 base dps and Ireckon it will be about 400dps with BH 0/4/4/4, so not too bad.

I just went on test center and tried this Template, more for fun than anything. Gets you to level 80 and could solo a rancor also level 80 (using Battle armour and Proton Carbine) probably, with better equipment. But takes a while.
Master Ranger
Master Bounty Hunter
Good for roleplay!

Novice Creature Handler - For the extra pet levels and basic control
Novice Squadleader - Extra Ranged and Melee defense plus tell messages to the group
Extra Assault and Battle Armour reduction

And have a few points left to dump into carbines! think I got it to III or IV if I remember corectly

What do you think to that template?

Theres no way us Rangers at master even with a master combat skill will compare to the others our defenses are just abysmal and would need a good group to survive although if your hunting just for the meat it should not really make a difference, as I dont think the amount of meat you get goes off the level of the creature but I may be wrong.

Currently I'm respeced at Master Carb/Bh 3400/Ranger 0040 and I am loving it. I have the diversity of hunting big game for skins or hunting Jedi for scalps. As long as you are in a group I am pulling way more off creatures than I ever did at Master Ranger.

Can you take on Jedi's alone? or solo some at all?

Why did you take master carbs instead of getting the LLC line?
