Thread: What templates will you M. Rangers be trying

I have spent the last three weeks on TC trying out both M Ranger/other and Ranger/other. My favorites are fairly weak any more. Since we get, I believe, two weeks and 9 different tries to respec it will take a lot of testing to find the right combinations.

Several things to keep in mind.

1) M Rifleman and M Ranger do not use the same Armor thus the best armor of either type has to come from using remaining SP you can respec to other professions. With combo you best test them carefully since /conceal (Rifleman) and /maskscent are working considerably differently and with the new creature aggro and team tackling you have to test and see how these will be affective. As of the end of testing of the CU there still wasn't any /conceal for camo and testing of this was not possible.

2) M CH and M Ranger have identical problems of not having combat specials or signature weapons from either Elite Profession so you can only use the generic weapons, which isn't necessarily bad with all the decertification of most of the weapons, but you don't have specials to use them with, so pretty much limited in the damage you can do. CU testing of creatures was not very satisfying. You didn't have any commands to range attack or special attack with any creature you tamed and trained, and with those you already have (like my Ranger from Bria). Also creatures that you already have, if they keep the latest wild creature and npc "balance" will be considerably less effective since such creatures as Rogue Begerasets went from level 13 to level 80 which is the highest your character can go combat wise and the highest pet you can have (non-aggro is level 70), so Rogue Begerasets will incaps your level 70 pet in one or two blows. So if you use two or more pets out at the same time they are even less capable against even one lone creature. Also watch the regeneration rate on creatures/npcs and you will see quickly that if you don't take them out in the first try most likely you never will be able to do so even grouped with pets. CH needs some severe rebalancing to be viable at this point in the new CU if they kept everything the way it was just before it went live.

Plus a big warning when you are told you can't use this pet until you either redo their stats or redo their levels. This was not tested and adjusted at all other than requiring you to do it (any BE pet will definitely be subject to this). My MCH/Ranger on Bria when he tried to adjust a level 48 angler it went to level 140 (totally unuseable). I also did a level 23 razor cat which jumped to level 160 and it had lower stats all away across the board then the level 48 did (go figure!). So this was not tested at all and then adjusted to help CHs. When I adjusted them to stats not level they remained the same level but their protection adjusted to the new armor system ratings for special protections, which did not turn out to badly, but again a level 50 pet is no match for anything much over it's level. This combat profession was really not tested or adjusted during the new Combat systems testing. And there isn't any second try with creatures. If you make a mistake with your pet and it jumps to unusable it is stuck there, you can not try to redo it.

3) M Pistoleer and M Ranger has the same problems as M Rifleman/M Ranger does. If you can get sufficiently up two trees that use Recon Armor (this is what Rifleman and Pistoleer, along with Smuggler have as their armor cert.). Also remember if you want to use Tiggs's hint of using Commando weapons and other professions specials Commando is the only profession where all of their weapons still need to be certified by the appropriate skill level in Commando. This means to use those specials built into the Commando weapons you have to use SPs to go up the appropriate Commando level to use them. This will then split your Armor certifications into all three types of Armor, but you will be stuck with only being able to use the basic level of any of the three armors (each type of armor comes in three grades; basic, standard and advance). You will be able to use say advance Recon armor since you have certification for Recon armor but you will be greatly encumbereed, so you need to look closely at this before you decide to split your armor mitigation between all three.

4) TKM/M Ranger has a similar problem with armor as the above only you are split between natural toughness and Battle Armor (this is what Rangers get). TKMs armor class does not stack with any other armor, thus is useless unless you take your armor off. I did not test melee professions as heavily, since I only have one Ranger that is a TKM, but the melee professions forum boards were repleat with people saying that melee could not stand up to Ranged in PvP or PvE (actually this is more realistic but game wise has to be more frustrating for those of us who like our characters that have a melee profession to go with our Ranger set.

5) M Fencer/M Swordsman/M Pikeman with M Ranger. This along with Doc, CM, and CH all use the same armor as Rangers (Battle Armor). But as I just said the talk on the melee forums is full of discussion about not feeling melee professions are any where near as viable as they use to be (again I did not test these combos very much).

6) Finally remember if you are really interested in using certain weapons of any professions that are declared "signature" weapons (these are basically weapons that are usable only by that profession, and in the vast majoritiy of these cases it requires master that profession) you must go up that professions skill tree sufficiently to be able to use that weapon because you can not even equip these weapons if you don't have the certification for them.

I hope these warnings will be helpful to you in not getting to frustrated when you try to respec.

i should preface this by saying i've remained very much in the dark over many of the changes coming up in the cu....but i am sticking with master tk/master ranger. the idea of actually being able to wear my neat ranger apparel without having to worry about armor really appeals to me.

I am gonna see if I can fit in a M Ranger with 4xx4 rifleman and 4xx4 Squad Leader. I want to be able to help my entire group/guild in combat, but I still want to have some combat viability with rifles.

I will likely try M. Ranger/MBH with 0003 creature handler as well.

Thiswas my prefered template

but Iam still not totally convinced.... andmy server will be back online in 6 hours... and I did respec lots on TC5.... but I am still not sure....

GAH!!!

As of this morning I was thinking of going BH 0/0/0/4 and as much CH as possible plus maybe novice medic.

But now I wonder whether just togo for MBH and maybe a little CH, or Novice Medic in place of the CH.

Decisions... Decisions...

I'll be joining Thadec on the Gorath server for a while, doing M. Ranger/M. Rifleman. He's starting an Antarian Ranger guild there, and I've been wanting to do a combat Ranger again. Good to be back in the fold.

I am currently Master Ranger / 2042 TK. From a lot of fooling around on the test center it appears that this particular Master Ranger/partial combat setup will have more difficultyin reaching Master Ranger/TKM than a template of 2024 Ranger/TKM. The reason for this is that MRanger gives you combat level without increasing your defensive oroffensive capabilities whereas TKM/partial Ranger appears easier to raise to my target of master in both.

Bottom line = I intend to swap my mastery of Ranger for a mastery of TK so my grind to full mastery of both is easier.

Hopefully soon to be MR/TKM

MCH/Master Ranger... I've been it since the beginning and I don't plan on changing! Only thing about it,you are pretty hindered in toe-to-toe combat as you don't have a ton of points left over for combat related professions. Currently, using remaining points for rifle until I figure out something else. I love the assault bowcasters!!

I was Master Ranger, MCH before dropping to 0030 MR to add Master Pistols (just wanted to Master another profession after playing for 1.5 years!). When I logged for the first time after cu, I was -14 sp and had to drop skills before being able to move (I wasn't expecting this and don't understand why they did it). I dropped my remaining Ranger skills to test the MCH/Master Pistols combo. I'm very disappointed with what they've done to the CH prof as I solo most of the time and relied heavily on my pets.Based on this, I'm thinking about doing a respec (hopefully I still can) and getting my Master Ranger back and keeping my Master Pistols. I figure that should use up all my points. I may toy with dropping some of the pistols and adding some of another combat prof. Still not sure,. The info regarding armor has been pretty helpful....keep the suggestions coming....some of us are still somewhat clueless!

Respec'd from master ranger/master pistolier to: Master Ranger, Pistolier 4/0/3/4, BH 0/0/4/0. With this template I'm stuck with battle armor, but that's okay. I get stopping shot, fanshot, intimidate shot, and something else cool from pistolier, and confusion shot and underhand shot from BH. I still get to use my DE-10, since it's just a level cert now. Oh, and I get body shot from somewhere. I'm CL 80 and get the full 3k health. Only drawback I've found so far is I'm a bit low in the speed department. Well, defenses too, but all of us who kept master ranger will suffer from that until the devs decide to give us some defense bonuses too. In any event, I'm having fun with it, so nothing else really matters just yet.

I'm looking to go MRanger and BH, but I'm not planning on Mastering BH as I'm only going BH to take advantage of the scout requirements of BH with regards to the Skill Points needed. I've still got to fit in at least 0002 Merchant (0040 Artisan)into my template.

I figure I'd better respec and take 4000 just so I dont have to grind Investigation out, incase I ever decide to actually Master BH, but what else should I take? I'm currently 4400 BH, but I'm not sure if I should go 4040 or 4004 BH or if there's a better combo.

Any ideas?
