well if calc likes it i'll have faith in it. combat needs a total ovehaul and maybe with the sandbox they will get it right.

"And now they're going to nerf our one combat profession"
Nerfs are inevitable, i hate to say it but get over it. Things are very wrong in this game. Why is it that the only risk in hunting comes from taking on the epic creatures such as ancient krayt dragon etc? A much more important point though is why is fighting these beast so boring? Super high hams, high AR and resists dont make for fun gameplay, it boring, its simply spam a few moves until your done, BORING!
Aslong as things move to a point where using my head will actually be worthwhile, planning an attack and using the whole range of skills available to me will make me a better hunter and player im all for it.
Ultimatly i would love to have each creature react differently, use the terrain differently and have very diverse hunting patterns which would force me to learn through experience and develope my own custom hunting techniques to take each creature down. Sadly this isnt and in most probability wont be thecase but what i can hope for is a way to involve not just risk but intelligence and planning into combat. The main problem in my eyes is that every creature more or less is tankable, which is very wrong even in regards toa melee player.
Im not thinking too much about ranger not getting any love in the CB at this stage because i believe in the sandbox we will make our voices heard. Rangers are involved very heavily in combat and in all likelyhood we 'hunt' and engage in PvE encounters much more than the average player. Once thechanges come and we report back the feedback in relation to the other templates you can have i think mostwill agree that there is something wrong with ranger and hopefully the devs will act upon this.
At the moment rangers basicallly 'sacrifice' possible defense mods and abilities to pursue a life in the ranger profession. This in itself limits the player's chances at becoming the ultimate hunter/ranger and master of player vs creature encounters. On the sandbox i think once some thorough testing has been made with different professions etc and things aregetting balanced, the rangers lack on combat related bonuses will be much more apparent.Im not asking for super powerfull skills and moves at this time, this isnt what the combat balance is about, what i will be asking is that Ranger get bonuses related to combat and recognised for the combat orientatedprofessionit is.
Overall:
Ienvy your knowledge of what was said at the sumit calc
heeh
I dont think the fact nothing is planned at this time for rangers should come as much of a suprise. Rangers have been ignored for so long i wouldnt expect the devs to take us into account for the CB. However i DO expect that once testing has been done on the sandbox we will be able to actually SHOW the devs what is wrong and that rangers should be combat orientated, then hopefully a few small but very important additions can be made.
Dont be too disapointed, i see bright things for ranger and the fact we are so heavily involved in combat will aid us in making our 'push' for ranger changes.
Thanks calc, once again top quality work

I seldom post around here, but I've been playing since Beta (with a few months of retirement). I love Ranger. This was my chosen profession since beta and has been my favorite since then, but I do think that some of our skills need to have "better returns" for each specialization.
- Increasing the range of /areatrack to 1000m radius when you hit Tracking 4
- Providing a /track command when you hit Master Ranger that would allow you to track a specific animal, npc, or player, maybe even with the use of droids?
- With JTL coming in, allow our High Tech Field Bases to serve as Launch Points for ships of our same faction (we can already summon factional npc support if we're overts)
- Traps that work against NPCs and other Players
- Allow us to harvest different resources from the same animal.
I really don't need more skills, but if what you say is true and they can make the existing ones a lot more usefull, then I'll stay a happy Ranger. Not sure if this was the right place for all this, but here it is anyway
Thanks for representing our profession in such a great way.

All this talk about rangers having the best tactics and being best prepared for unbuffed, unarmored combat and whatnot.. you have to remember some of us simply cannot do that. I'm a pikeman. UNarmored, I will kill myself in approximately5 or 6seconds. with armor, foggedaboudit. luckily, some of you play a combat profession that has fine tuned ham costs. not mine... if I could hunt unbuffed, I would, but it's simply impossible. So until the CB and the ham revamp I wont be able to begin employing skillful tactics, which is unfair to mebecause I am not going to be prepared for the big changes. /sigh. it sucks.

I think rangers need to consider also that if combat improves, rangers improve as well since we rely on combat to sustain ourselves. From what I've read on the forums of what will be changed, i'm already excited, and hearing calc say that what he sees coming is exciting to him makes me more excited. I think that the CB will be the foundation upon which our individual professions will be revamped on so hearing that we don't get anything new from the CB isn't that disheartening to me. I am still patient on the ranger revamp.

Things are looking up.This CB and JTL has come just at the right time because if it hadnt i think i would of lost interest in the game too much.
As things stand at presenti log on occasionally to either help a friend, do a little hunting or simply chat to some friends. Its not a realy 'fun' game at the moment no matter how hard i try (unbuffed, bone armour, mounts etc). The CB however has got me all excited again, the idea of the devs acknowledging things are very wrong and setting asside lots of time and resources to fix them is very promising if not for ranger, for the game as a whole.
I just hope Green Marine comes over and starts a "what do you want in your revamp/completion?" thread hehe.

I feel very much the same way. But I think it went to far for me to get all excited about the CB. Especially since this is the Second time they got all ramped up about a CB. I surely hope for the game in general, they really get stuff done this time.
