Thanks for the infor ... glad you had a good time
Hmnnn ... hoping that RL garment is a prototype of something specifically designed for rangers
No discouragement here ... just looking forward to changes when they come ... I like the direction this game is going. And, I see your enthusiasm as a definite good sign!

Wow, you mean despite some Imp Ranger's drivel, TACTICs instead of buffs/armor will be most important. Sounds good to me, make this game more realistic and weed out the mo-rons and 12 year olds.
Hooah.
And for the record, unbuffed, unarmored JB, with not even his droid, solo'd... that's correct - solo'd... an Ancient Bull Rancor, a Bull Rancor, and a youth rancor (hardly worth mentioning) this morning, just to see if he could do it. He could. He did. He is proud.
Bring on CB, altho honestly, I don't think I am in for a shock... the Duke Nuk'em types are gonna be in catatonia.
JB
I only went to Dath to get some decent missions and some leather, Wonder how much XP i missed out on?

Thats a bragging right worth bragging about.

Alas I find it disappointing rangers/scout not getting any love in the cb. If as calc has eluded to traps are part of combat, and we are getting no specific changes then my heart sinks low, and i begin to wonder if it's worth it to bear my master ranger title with pride anymore. We are the corner stone of atleast 6 professions for goods, yet not a combat class. We are a support role, that seems to have been left behind in consideration of combat. I love being a ranger, but it gets harder and harder to stick with the SP costs. As rangers we get 2 additional traps over scout. We get rescue to save our friends in combat, but no inherient combat skills of our own. We get penilized to group ala harvest penalty.
I'm not angry, just sad the is no point to rant, rave and scream .. thats just counter productive. I was hoping we would get some attention during this revamp, as I feel it will require a lot more group effort and we shall suffer from penalities. Areatrack is al but useless these days it seems the amount of wild spawns seems to be going down at a fast rate. I was 4km from any civilization on rori last night and found nothing. My current template is tkm, master ranger .. it allows me to fufill my ranger concept out in the bush, only coming to town on occassion for supplies. Ive already switched to mostly chef food and tkm powerboost to avoid the buff thing. I hunt without armor for 99% of my time. Barehanded hutning and fishing living off the land and enjoying it. But it seems after the revamp I wont be able to do that as often, and I fear other professions will suffer as well , those who depend on rangers/scouts for organics which will be in shorter supply as both professions will be hit with a harvest penality, traps that dont often effect your targets, and maskscent/camo which is so often broken I use it less and less.
I know this is a somber post and may not really be well received, I just felt I needed to detail how I felt about this coming change, and how we the support professions will be left in the cold. Even the Pub 10 FS quests leave us in the cold 1 or 2 boxes in all the fs trees benefit us and not enough to really even worth doing the quests.

Can we at least push for Master Ranger immunity to Poison/Disease? for the CB? Is that too much to ask?
Well, I stated that I will contiue to push our ideas to the Devs, but I should have mentioned that I was going to continue to push ideas for the CB.

I must say, Calc, that I read your Summary and my heart sank because it confirms my worst fears: that nothing is being doneas far as Rangers go. They're only in the beginning stages of CB? My God. What do they do all day? They've talked about the CB for at least the last six months.
It has been over a year since release and the Ranger isas broken as itcould almost possibly be. On the calendar is Jedi phase 2, then JTL, then CB, then smuggler? I really hate to be a realist sometimes, but we're not in line for fixesfor at least the next year, I'd say, even if we are next. Probably longer. And now they're going to nerf our one combat profession. Just how much hide/bone/meat do you think we'll be able to take per hour after that?
When considering nerfs you guys need to remember that ALL combat is getting nerfed and not just one or two professions.

I think that nerf is an inaccurate word to toss around.
nerf usually implies and has a connotation of being a bad thing. Realizing that ALL combat is changing, this means it is all the more important that the correspondants, the players the devs work together to make the CB benefitial for all of us.
I belive that the game needs to go into a much more tactical change for combat, right now it is the equivalent of button mashing. For me, thats not fun.
Changing the combat system to a more dynamic system will include greater risks and greater rewards... at least i hope so.

One thing I wasn't very clear on is that while we may not be getting any new skills, it sounds like some of the skills we have will become more useful.

THE CB WILL COMPLETELY CHANGE COMBAT.
I'm assuming that melee weapons are still for hitting things and ranged weapons for shooting things ?
We've already seen the ideas on adding an extra bar to the HAM for dealing with specials .... unless that is not happening, then it's really a tweak and not a fundamental change.
My guess is the big change (not surprisingly) is going to be encumbrance and cost of specials.
Buffs get chopped severely, and all of a sudden armour encumbrance has a huge effect, and the choice of when to use a particular special attack becomes important.
So - what can we do to prepare - simple. Go hunting unbuffed, use traps a lot moreand don't try targeting a particular HAM pool with your weapon (try autofire
).
Get used to wearing low encumbrance armour, choose weapons with low HAM costs.
I imagine several of the specials will change (a lot certainly need to), mainly to reduce the massive effects on specific HAM pools - so forget about specials for now. Try and survive using just what your weapon normally does - with powerups.
I like JBMat's post on tactics.
I guarantee the true rangers of this game will be the best prepared once the Combat Revamp hits us

Heh...the best way to prepare is to understand and accept that combat will be completely different
. It sounds like you have that covered.

And that is why so many things still, a year after release, broken. Rather than fix problems and issues they scrap the entire thing and start over, and everyone knows that takes much more time. I'm not saying that is inherently "wrong," I'm sure the devs will do a good job with the CB when they eventually get to it.
I do think is is sad that we are now paying for a game, so they can work on one we are not paying for; so that 4-6 months down the road they will come back and do work that shoud have been done before the game was ever released. You develope a game before it is released then fix any remaining issues when it is out. If they were willing to actually fix the combat system so it works as originally intended (which I'm sure took hundreds of hours of work to design and impliment in the first place) we just might find out that a complete overhaul wasn't actually needed. But we will never know.
While I'm happy to hear the devs have "cool and exciting"things in store, I also look over the last year and see all the "cool and exciting" things they have promised/talked about.

I think any "nerf" of the combat profession will actually be an un-nerf of our own profession. One of our main focuses is survival. Since it is so easy to survive, that ability is not very worthwhile. If survival once again becomes an issue then we will have a reason to use and take pride in those skills again.
I intend to prepare by enrolling in the JB school of tactics.
However, since none of us really knows what the rebalance entails (except Calc who is sworn to silence), there may be no good way to prepare. So I guess we do what we always do. Play and have fun.
