Ok, as a former and soon to be ranger , I have a question. The information I have seen so far says the DB will add the much needed risk into the game. But a game needs two elements to be fun, risk, and reward. For example, now i can solo bascially everything, because there is no risk. When the combat ballence comes out I will have to group. But the current grouping system gives no reward, it punishes me by making the group a competion to see who can click the fastest and deal the most damage. Are they gonna add reward into the game, because other wise it is a nerf.

Welcome back Calc! I'm glad you seem excited about the Combat Revamp...it gives me hope that it will live up to my high expectations after so long a wait. More importantly, I'm glad you had a good time. Thanks for your work on our behalf

I have faith in two things:

First, that any system with the Calc seal of approval (which is very cool looking, by the way) can't be all bad. I think worrying about it at this point is silly.

Second, that Rangers will eventually get the love they deserve. Knowing Calc, he put a lot of subliminal messages into the heads of the Devs. After we get the spaceships and Jedis that all Rangers love (you do love them, don't you?) we will be on the radar for some stuff. It is innevitable that they will come back to us. Until then, yes, I agree it's been a long and difficult wait, but getting angry and complaining will accomplish nothing. They have an order set up in their heads, complaining will only make us like everyone else.

Three, the the sandbox will help us in many ways. From showing the devs how little our skills matter during combat with animals to discussing the finer points of how Rangers' skills work and how they SHOULD work, there stands to be a lot of discusssion of our skills and perhaps a fair bit of "tweaking. Until Rangers get a full revamp, we won't have a lot of the cool things we have now...but as many have said, a few small changes along the way can really help our proffession out.

In the end, we can only wait. Getting overexcited about stuff now will only raise your blood pressure. Relax and enjoy the game now, then be prepared to enjoy it in a different way after the CB, and in a whole new way with JTL. I'm very excited myself and I can only stress that Rangers are survivalists...we can survive the CB as well, and with any luck, we can do so with a lot of grace and with some tweaks.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

Not when you consider that some people (including me) are happy with the current combat system as much as it applies to PvE. Therefore, when they say EVERYTHING WILLL BE TOTALLY DIFFERENT, that means that the chances are that we won't like it as much. That means the system I'm happy with is going to end, that means I know how I currently enjoy playing is on limited time. That means I might not like playing SWG anymore. That means I'm p!$$ed off.

For the record, I already do all that said in previous posts about using tactics and strategy. I'm a professional hunter, and I NEVER go buffed, all I take is my brandy and my collection of rifles, and YES I still do find it exciting, espeically against DB creatures, wondering if I've set everything up right, and running through my head how I'll deal with it if it aggro's me. And yes, I alternate between armour and no armour, balancing out the use of auto fire and specials. What's more, is that I take on Ranger Students and teach them all I know so they can hunt just as competently.

In spite of all that, I'm still p!$$ed off that the CB is going to re-write the book on everything.

I know the corr's have been well squaky on this and are clearly as excited as rabbits on viagra, but, am going to wait until I see / hear more before putting my chips down.

I keep saying I don't 'fight'. But from time to time I do, I also go off on npc slaugherfests for loot and coin. So, anything that changes the way things happen there is going to have an effect on my gaming experience.

I'll need to see how its going to affect it before I get excited or annoyed tho.

Given that I can still solo a rancor (youth, and I don't always win but still) without an elite combat profession (I have marksman 0/0/0/4 to get the prereq for SL), something is wrong with the current system. It definately needs a change. I'm hoping the CB fixes combat. And, now that Calc has indicated that they are actually looking at all combat skills (with a strong indication that trapping is included in this), I believe it will.

Wow...that's all I can say about the summit. They treated us like kings (we ARE kings, aren't we?) and kept us extremely busy with both work and play. We basically never slept while in Austin.

First and foremost, I would like to state that this was partially meant as a team building exercise and it worked like a champ. Getting to know the other Corrs was invlauable in giving mea new understanding and respect for where they are coming from. I also got to meet and talk to (business and personal) many of the Devs, but not all; I guess GM was around, butI missed him .

I can tell you that there isn't anything planned specifically for Rangers in the CB. I know guys, it was a blow to me, as well. We are great at persevering (i.e. dignified waiting) and I would like to see us maintain our usual high standard of posting! I am going to continue to push our combat related ideas to the Devs andI should mention that the CB is in it's infancy and nothing is set in stone. The Devs have other priorities right now but they have assured all the Corrs that they have every intention of looking at all professions as soon as they can work it in to the schedule. We must understand that they are not out to make players unhappy (unhappy players = less income), there just isn't enough time to do everything. While I was told we probably had more waiting ahead of us, I still hold out hope that the Devs will make things right by us!

On to what the Devs presented. The CB will have an effect on any one who engages in combat, despite their template. We will have to completely rethink our tactics (YAY JB!) once the CB hits. Let me throw out the biggest caveat now: THE CB WILL COMPLETELY CHANGE COMBAT. There will be absolutely no use in making arguments along the lines of "I used to be able to do X before!" The system will be 100% different. FWIW it's worth, I loved the info we were presented, and all of the Corrs that attended did as well! It will be exciting and revolutionary (the scope of the changes they plan).

So, what can I tell you now? Nothing. The Devs have asked that we wait until they get their thoughts together to post anything. This week, they will be organizing the information they presented and the feedback we gave. Next week (not set in stone...due to the amount of info we covered, it may take longer) they plan to start releasing some of the info we covered.

I had a great time while there and I think the Corrs and thereforeall of the community will be able to shape the CB into a truly amazing thing!

P.S. As the rumor as has been started, I will validate it: I was indeed presented with areal life Garment Whose Name I Will Not Utter. This was given to me ( and maybe some other Corrs) in honor of our brave stand taken against the tyranny of the Tailors!!!

Well I think the summit was a great idea, and I think a presedented event, no other MMO or game has ever done. It sounds like they have some good ideas planned for the base combat system as a whole. I assume once that is nailed they will move to individual professions.

I would look forward to it all, but frankly in the last couple months I have lost all my passion for this game. I have been reading and researching on EQ2, and will probably switch when it comes out. In the mean time, I have prepared my character to get the jedi quest system opening tomorrow. I will go that route in the mean time. I truely hope this game gets on the right path, and gets to where more people are enjoying it and staying with it. Soooo many of my friends and aquantices have left recently. Kinda sad really. I have others, that just don't hardly log in, especially since the jedi are roaming around taking all the content away and kill stealing it. /sigh. Sad jedi have such a bad rap. But that's a different discussion.

Rangers, I will always bea ranger, and in fact really liking the sound of the Ranger in EQ2. This profession has tremendous potentional and THE best community of players. I'll be here for the ride for a while longer, but I see myself not finishing the year with SWG. Sadly, I'm a huge SW fan and love just about anything SW. But this game is just not taking the path "I" desire in it. Let me specifiy, it's "my" vision of where "I" think the game could go. The game is the developers truely and they can do what ever they wish. There is no right or wrong, just something I'm not interested in any longer.

When considering nerfs you guys need to remember that ALL combat is getting nerfed and not just one or two professions.

Well I sincerely hope all includes how creatures do combat, if it doesn't then we are really screwed!

I'm assuming that melee weapons are still for hitting things and ranged weapons for shooting things ?

We've already seen the ideas on adding an extra bar to the HAM for dealing with specials .... unless that is not happening, then it's really a tweak and not a fundamental change.

My guess is the big change (not surprisingly) is going to be encumbrance and cost of specials.

Buffs get chopped severely, and all of a sudden armour encumbrance has a huge effect, and the choice of when to use a particular special attack becomes important.

So - what can we do to prepare - simple. Go hunting unbuffed, use traps a lot moreand don't try targeting a particular HAM pool with your weapon (try autofire ).

Get used to wearing low encumbrance armour, choose weapons with low HAM costs.

I imagine several of the specials will change (a lot certainly need to), mainly to reduce the massive effects on specific HAM pools - so forget about specials for now. Try and survive using just what your weapon normally does - with powerups.

I like JBMat's post on tactics.

I guarantee the true rangers of this game will be the best prepared once the Combat Revamp hits us

I agree, and actually practice what is said in the quoted post. However, I find the part I put in bold a horrible prospect, especially as a wookiee, armour emcumbrances are already ridiculously high, armour encumbranceneeds reducing, not increasing.

One thing I wasn't very clear on is that while we may not be getting any new skills, it sounds like some of the skills we have will become more useful.

Just wanted to pop in and tell you all something you probably already figured out...You were VERY well represented at the Summit...I really enjoyed hanging out with Calculus and talking shop...

As for Rangers getting love...The Devs did keep stating over and over that right after the Combat Revamp is done, they definitely plan on some serious focus and revamps for those professions not covered in the revamp...that's apparently their next big priority...

From what I got out of the revamp, Every profession will pretty much beeffected by the Revamp...The Combat professions will get some specific changes...

I definitleylook forward to seeingsome love come to the Ranger profession as well...
