The following points are addedin anattempt to better explain the situation

  • Crafters need high quality resources to continue their businesses. Because of a lack of resources, crafters are forced to pay enormous amounts of money for these resources.

  • The lack of resources is largely due to the professional harvesters (mainly high level scouts and rangers) getting very little benefit from their skills.

  • Currently, a Master Ranger gets about twice the resources of a Novice Scout (with a 125 skill point cost difference).

  • Currently, a Master Ranger gets about 30% more resources than a Master Scout (with a 63 skill point cost difference).

  • Spending skill points in Scout and Ranger means that the Scout or Ranger can not spend those points on combat skills.

  • Someone that spends most of their skill points on combat skills and relatively few on a Scouting related profession can harvest much more than a dedicated Scout or Ranger because they can kill larger creatures much more easily.

  • Trapping skills are designed to assist the Ranger or Scout in killing their prey. Some of the traps do provide useful effects but they hit very rarely on any target for which most Scouts or Rangers would need them for.

  • If the effectiveness of the Trapping and Creature Harvesting skill mods was increased then Scouts and Rangers would be better able to supply crafters with the resources they need.

  • Such a change should be easy and quick to implement as it only requires changing the way the skill mod is checked. As the Creature Harvesting skill mod only appears to apply when attempting to harvest a creature, this should be easy to change. As the Trapping skill mod only appears to apply when throwing a trap at a creature in combat, this should also be easy to change.

  • Given the extra supply provided by such an increase, it is likely that crafters would no longer need to offer such high bounties on organic resources in order to get what they want.

  • Such a solution is only a partial fix. Scouts and Rangers will still have many problems but these changes should help increase the general supply of resources and help to mitigate the inflation present in most servers' economies.

I'm pretty active on Tempest, Jekker has been around longer than me. If he won't take Tempest, then I will. Jekker?

Just to list those people who have volunteered and for what server/forum they have done so.

DWolfe: Valcyn

Calculus_Entropy: Wanderhome

JuCat: Kauri

Stewwi: Farstar

RohmEnari: Tempest (unless Jekker wants it)

DND_Cas: Chimera

I can do Eclipse (although I think Fred_Skinner might be a better choice there). This still leaves a lot of boards, though. Especially the profession ones. If we don't get a lot of people offering to help, we might want to try dropping the server forums and just trying for the profession ones (well, the professions that would be using organics). There are enough of those as is (10 at my count). We currently have 7 people (the six above plus myself). There are 26 different galaxies so posting to all of those might be a bit ambitious without more support. What do people think? 36 different boards might be a bit hard to manage. 10 should be easy. Just so people don't have to look back a page, I think the following professions need a post:

Architect

Armorsmith

Artisan

Bio-engineer

Chef

Combat Medic

Doctor

Medic

Smuggler

Tailor

Crafters that I don't believe use organics:

Droid Engineer

Merchant

Weaponsmith

Do those lists seem right? If so, should we stick to the organic using boards? We might get a larger response if we went to the general boards as well but we don't seem to have enough people to go around. I'd hate to make people take on 5 boards each (especially when a lot of those boards would wonder what we were doing there).

I think you're doing quite well here, Nemo. These bullet points, added asa "key points" summary after the initial post would clear up most everything I commented on.

GraySeven,

I think I can understand where you're coming from, but I think Nemo hits it on the head in his response. By having our new correspondent post this in each forum, and coordinating with their forum correspondent's to get it floated for a bit, we (as a community) have taken most of the work onto ourselves (read: onto our future correspondent, heh.) which means that the correspondents of each of the individual forums has very little of the work needed for this.. canvasing to be effective. If the correspondent wishes to support our cause, they can do so by floating the thread, and posting in favor of it. Most communities I've seen (admittedly few) respect their correspondents, and will at least consider their words when considering this idea.

Also, if you would be willing to support this idea, you would make an ideal candidate to "head" our efforts in the Armorsmith forums, as you are a serious armorsmith yourself.

Consider it, if you please.

Oh, and honestly, I am rarely on the Lowca forums...there is way too much flaming and strageness going on there to be productive. I think that a profession posting would be most productive.

do we have a draft of the request or should we start pumping one out?

The Lowca forums are indeed ugly. My name is somewhat known there however, be ot for good or ill. I'm fine with Agon taking Lowca. If you want me to however I'll do it bud. Either of us is fine.

I have to voice my concern on posting this on the Tempest forums as well. There are a few outspoken people on there with nothing better to do but nitpick. Though recently Tempest has been under the watch of Garva and Jeassa, so flaming is at an all time low and we may be able to keep it constructive. However, the wording on this document has to be done in a way that is straight forward and doesn't really leave any doors open for others to attack its merits. A friend of mine is quite good and organizing these type of documents. While he is not currently a ranger, he is a guild mate of mine in the Antarian Rangers and also active on the Tempest forums. He may be willing to help look over the document and it may be a good idea to have an outside point of view on it before we submit it to the rest of the community. I believe his forum name is Akkori, so if you want I can approach him about this and bring him. He has been a crafter for quite a while and his opinion on this would be unbiased and potentially helpful to the cause.

Thanks Rancorrider....

We need to suit each other up in those suits that the CDC wear before we head on over to the lowca forums...it smells, and its dirty there

Ok, it seems people think that posting on server forums might be a bad idea. Given that there are 26 of them, it might be worth setting our sights a bit lower. I recommend that we only focus on the 10 crafting boards that actually use organic resources. As it is, there is a sort of draft proposal floating somewhere in this document (one post is in paragraph form, another gives a bullet point summation, together they should give a reasonable description of the situation). Feel free to comment on it, make suggested changes, or even write up an entirely new one. But you might also want to have a look at my Master Ranger vs. Novice Scout Harvesting thread (here) for the new update. I believe it provides a strongly supported idea for how the harvesting mod is currently working. And it's not pretty (Novice Scout = 57.5% of the resources of a Master Ranger). I'm very tempted to add more concrete information to the post here but I'm thinking a link to a thread explaining it might save space.

Okay, I'll capitulate...no maas!

I would like to throw my weight behind the posting of these items on the profession boards that actually use organics, however. It not only makes more sense, but you will reach more of your target audience. As a crafter, I stay away from the Galaxy boards because of the "chlidren" there, preferring the profession boards where the flaming is lighter (though more creative).

Ok. Thanks for all the help. You wouldn't by chance be interested in being the contact for the Armorsmith board, would you? Someone who happens to be a member of both communities is definately the best choice (and I don't think we have many of those).

Also, given the general dislike of posting this on the server forums, would those of you who offered to post on the server boards be willing to help on the profession boards instead? And, if so, do you have any preferences for which board you would want to do? As it is, I think we have (or will have) slightly more than 10 people to work with 10 boards. So we can either team people up for some of the larger professions or we will need some sort of selection process (or we can try to post for the 3 non-organic using crafting related professions as well...). My personal preference would be to team people up so that everyone who wants to can participate. Any thoughts?

I think the idea of teaming two or three people together for each of thosecrafting professions might be a good idea. Having a few different points of view on posts would be good as one person can misinterpret another persons post and may be better suited to respond to it.
