But it would help me. And darn (hello filter) it Im the most important person to myself. And if i choose to have Master CH then i want more uber strong dots. And just think a ranger that can throw poison in PvP would be the new combat medic! /sarcasm off

It seemed a good idea at the time. But watching "I love the 90s" reminds me of how many of those we all have.

As a comment, the reason i mentioned the powerup, was partly asa way of bringing some use to forage to, so we could use the skill to look for items that could be applied to our weapon, as opposed to having some weapon that only Rangers could use.

I sooooo want forage to do something

Okay, so I apologize for the ambiguous, kinda ominous title of this thread. This isn't an emergency, but I'd like to have as much time as possible to work on a rather long and involved project I'm working on ---The Outdoorsman 2.0--.

In that vein, I have a few questions for you:

1) Are there any other "modules" that you would like to see, other than the ones that have prieviously been described?

If anything there are toomany. No offence to all the Rangers who came up with the ideas back in the day, but we need to be good hunters andsupport for our group in PvE and PvP. We don't need 3 modules each doing the same thing to a different degree. We don't need to be crafter-heavy, A entertainer module, a medic module and some offense and defense modules and I think we would all be happy.

2) If you like the idea of modular camping, would you like to see the modules have "types"? As it is worded now, each camp has certain slots where you could put a specific "type" of module. The discussion leading up to the creation of the Modular camping idea was whether in would be better to have no "types". Thus is N'Rass's proposal, there would be a slot for one type of module, and then a slot for another type of module. In another idea for Modular Camping, there were simply X number of slots per camp. Each module took up X number of those slots. So rather than limiting a Ranger to one med module or whatever, the Ranger had the option to put on multiple modules of the same type. Given these two options (or any that you might have) which view of Modular camping works for you?

Again, the simpler the better. Eachhigher level ranger campshould have a greater amount of module slots, and all modules should work in any Ranger camp. If we want base/camps with rocket launchers, mines and machine guns make it extremely difficult to craft these individual items (example: weaponsmith/squad leader/ranger components) or make them faction purchased items. Sure if you want to build the uber PvP death camp thats all good, but be ready to spend a lot of time and energy to do so, and then don't be sad when it goes poof a couple hours later.

3) There has been a lot of discussions about how to make /rescue a more effective command. Some would like to see it de-aggro the creature. Some would like to see it do some damage (I'm not sure HOW...maybe an animation of the Ranger throwing a rock?). Some would like it to apply some status changes (stuned, blind, etc.) How would you like to see Rescue come along?

Add either a warning shot style delay or a wookiee roar style delay and I think we would use it quite a bit more. Might as well use that ranger speed to distract and then get in a better position to take on the big meanie.

4) There have been several ideas pertaining to the proposed Ranger weapon. In the end, I think several of us agreed: Owen-Lars' ideas have come the closest to balancing the several ideas we have been proposing. The question for me is that of Melee Rangers: should they recieve a weapon that is a viable alternative to the Ranged one, or should the melee weapon be an inferior hunting tool?

I am actually dead-set against a ranger-only weapon. I want to be a better hunter with the weapon I already use.

5) Here is my newest idea: Hunting missions like those that have been given to bounty hunters. Specific, hard creatures that spawn only for the person on the mission. A Ranger would have to track down the creature. Perhaps a droid, similar to those used by Bounty Hunters, would give the area the creature was in, but a Ranger would have to use /areatrack to find and kill this creature. This would give higher amounts of Scouting skills and would pay well. Read the origianal Outdoorsman proposal for an idea of how this would work. Each city would have these terminals, and they would give missions only for that planet or that region. I have played as BH and the mission structure is the best thing about that proffession. Needing to actually use /areatrack would be a good way to make that skill usefull. I think this terminal, along with the Ranger Weapon idea would make Rangers the BH's of the wilderness.Would other Rangers like to see a mission terminal similar to the BH missions for creature hunting?

Love it

Okay, please let me know what you think so I can get to work on the Outdoorsman update.

Seriously, I need feedback on the specific questions I asked to effectively work on the Outdoorsman, I'm not saying don't post new ideas...I'm saying respond to the questions.... (I think I did but will dbl check) and THEN add your ideas. Just make sure you hit the questions since that's those are the areas that need the most work in the proposal.

nothing comes to mind... except maybe a module that gives a camp an "interior" location - this would allow people to enter it and disappear off radar (like a house) and talk without showing up on outside spatial...

2) If you like the idea of modular camping, would you like to see the modules have "types"? As it is worded now, each camp has certain slots where you could put a specific "type" of module. K.I.S.B. (keep it simple, bothan)...

oh boy... i don't know how many times i've written on this one... originally, i wanted something that would force /peace - but i had the stipulation of it forcing the ranger to concentrate for that time... trouble is, i stole that idea from smugglers (/feigndeath), and wanted rangers to have /playdead (i even brought something up with dr. alan grant, ian malcom, a t-rex, and a flare in a couple of different threads, but... we'll pretend i didn't bring it up again)... then along came /animalcalm - the jedi's ability to force a creature to peace - with no stipulations... trouble is, it is a jedi ability... more recently i've started liking the idea of it giving the ranger defensive bonuses (dodge or maybe toughness)... all in all, my favorite would probably be the first, but the latter is probably more likely... in any case, with the current system on all of these the rescue fails unless the rescuee /peaces... if it will force the rescuee to /peace, it needs to have a semi-consent system... so much trouble is the /rescue skill... but it isone of my two favorite ranger abilities...

4) There have been several ideas pertaining to the proposed Ranger weapon. The question for me is that of Melee Rangers: should they recieve a weapon that is a viable alternative to the Ranged one, or should the melee weapon be an inferior hunting tool?

much have i spoken on this, as well... i think rangerswill onlyget a class-weapon if they get an ability that would require one (ie. i think stealth would require a specific weapon for balance purposes)... i'm not against the idea, however... but i do feel that only one weapon would be needed... barring carbineers (who are mid-range), every combat profession could benefit from a mid-ranged weapon - riflemen would have a weapon for close combat, and brawlers would have a weapon that hit farther than their lunge...

5) Here is my newest idea: Hunting missions like those that have been given to bounty hunters. Specific, hard creatures that spawn only for the person on the mission. i was thinking something like this just the other day... sounds good to me, maybe we can have a camp module for it too, heh...

Camps.

The hidden ones I mean....

I like the open and HIGHLY visible camps, they're neat, but how about we get a camp that we can conceal using the local flora?

We could have a camp conceal kit, that would require foraged flora from that planet, or alternately hides and flora. then we use it as a tarp or drapes to cover the camp and make it camouflaged.

Anyone in the camp would be gone from LOS and radar. That would be something I think would benefit the GCW etc.

Rescue?

How about some kind of lasoo or throwing dirt in the eyesanim/effect? Throwing a rock doesn't make sense when you have a T21 to bear down the snout of a critter.. Haha, hey maybe its a /Bonk on the head hehe.

Maybe make the /rescue attempt a bleed or dizzy? Yelling at a beast to draw it away wont do much really, but pissing it off somehow by maybe even throwing a beehive on its head(read ac2 Hivekeeper

well you get the picture, maybe even we use those jars of lair critters, you know the bee's and flies etc?

In that vein, I have a few questions for you:

1) Are there any other "modules" that you would like to see, other than the ones that have prieviously been described?

While I can't specifically think of any other modules that I would like to see, it might be useful for you to list the ones that you think have been described so that nothing is forgotten (although it might be best to produce several drafts of the final document for that).

The types were there so that different professions would be responsible with setting up the different camps (mainly the SL and Ranger split for the NPC/creature based camps). If this is modified so that the modules are added to the camp after being set up then it might be possible to let the modules be a bit more general. The main problem as I see it is that both Rangers and SLs have the Scout survival requirement. It would be nice to see some use of the survival skills in SL but I'd rather not have a duplication of skills. Although that is potentially solved by having the camps set up as they are now and giving SLs the ability to add some of the combat oriented modules (i.e. the turret module might be crafted by a weaponsmith but require a Squad Leader's knowledge of combat and camping to integrate it into a camp, either a Scout one or a Ranger one). But there are so many ways to do this that choosing one is difficult.

The main thing that I would like to see added to rescue is some method of stopping the creature from immediately switching back to its previous target. Forcing the creature to attack the Ranger for a small amount of time (5 seconds) would do this (although this might lead to an exploit where two Rangers could fight a target without it ever coming in range of either of them). I would like to see some added protection so that rescue doesn't cause you to die right away but the biggest problem is that it is hard to actually get rescue to work. Also, I wouldn't mind seeing some sort of AoE warningshot ability (like Old Ben's Krayt call).

I personally don't like the idea of turning Rangers into a cookie cutter profession. Giving Rangers a profession specific weapon that is good enough to replace their combat profession would do that. I would much rather see combat mods and some sort of modification to trapping (I do like modular traps).

I think this terminal, along with the Ranger Weapon idea would make Rangers the BH's of the wilderness.Would other Rangers like to see a mission terminal similar to the BH missions for creature hunting?

I'd recommend that you just have an area waypoint and use some sort of tracking method from there. Droid tracking is not something we should be doing. Maybe you get a creature description and waypoint. At the waypoint, you get some sort of hint as to where the creature has gone off to based on the description (i.e. the description is that a crazed durni is ravaging a farmer's crops and needs to be stopped. The waypoint takes you to a small farm like structure. At the farm, you get a small quiz like window describing some possible leads and you have to pick one of them. This would be something like: You see 3 sets of tracks, one small, one medium, and one large [you can also toss in things about the special moves of the creature and such]. Which do you follow? You pick a set of tracks and it causes a creature to spawn nearby. Areatrack will find the creature at that point. If you picked the wrong tracks then you will fight the wrong creature but fail the mission [but still able to harvest and such]. Picking the right tracks would lead to the creature [or a lair] that you destroy to finish the mission. Maybe this shouldn't have been in parentheses). I don't want a copy of BH missions, though.

Okay, please let me know what you think so I can get to work on the Outdoorsman update.

Hope this helps. My comments are in yellow.

Ahh have another question for you: Farms. what should we make of 'em?

In Nikki's post, he spoke about the possibility of farming. I'll repeat what I said, which is that I don't see this as a "fix" to our proffession. But then again, many of the proposals that the Outdoorsman made weren't "fixes". They were simply good ideas that we thought were cool. In that vein, I think that some of Nikki's ideas are cool. One of these is the farm idea. I want to know whether or not people want me to add the farm idea into the proposal. I'd have to work with Nikki to get the ideas down pat, and make sure he's okay with the "story' part of it, but I'd like to know whether or not people want to have farms be part of the outdoorsman or whether it should be a seperate proposal.
