I'm not sure if this issue has been mentioned yet but I think that it is fairly important from both a role-players standpoint and from a gamer's standpoint.

As a master ranger I have started looking for new ways to expand my character by looking at professions that would compliment my skills. However, I found that our +25 creature-to-hit bonus only applies to ranged attacks and doesn't affect any melee skills whatsoever. I think that this should be changed to that master rangers can be allowed to expand their skills in more than just the marksman tree. From the gamer's perspective this would make sense because when you're out fighting creatures they are almost all melee fighters. And so to not benifit those who wish to best defend themselves from the swinging claws of a rancor seems rather unfair.

From the role-players standpoint this exclusion of melee benifitting from the bonus seems even more out of place. If I were a master ranger and knew that say a kaadu tends to leap high in the air when attacking-I will aim higher increasing my odds of scoring a hit-- why is it that as a pikeman I would not be able to perhaps swing a bit higher or brace myself for a downward attack and so increase my chances of connecting?

If there is some logical reason to excluding melee professions from this bonus then I'm all ears for hearing it, but if not then perhaps it is something to think about changing in the future.

what about a weapond? commados have a flame thrower, bounty hunters have light lighting cannons, riflemen have T21, and so on.But as a ranger we don't realy have a speciel weapond to use with high min or max. i have found that when i go hunting for large game i need a commado orsomeone witha speacil weopond to come along. then he or she can do most of the damage then i can harvest. but realy can't go solo, and as a ranger i think we should be able to. i wouldjust like a rifle, one that only rangers can use. for the big game.

I agree that Rangers need their own special weapon.

I also believe that logically speaking, traps should work on anything and anyone. If I am in a cantina and I toss a sonic trap at a player (in PVP mode), it should work. It would be just like (in real life) a flash bang grenade or say a bear trap.If I walked into a bear trap or if some threw a flash grenade at me, I would get hurt/stuned and the trap would work on me.

It would be a great splash of reality and a boon to a very weak combat character to have traps effect player characters, NPCs and creatures no matter where they are.

I think that traps ought to work on anyone and that outside Rangers should get bonuses to combat, maybe defenses, because in theory that is our domain. I also think master rangers should not be visible on the hud. we need some real work over because with every upgrade they weaken the profession; i think anyways.

Any word at all when SOE is going to do anything?

Yes Rangers would like a weapon, but all of your examples are comparing a support profession (Ranger) to a combat profession (Commando, Rifleman, etc.).

The comments about rangers not being able to solo large creatures is true and valid. In the outdoorman proposal, and before it, we have been asking for defence and damage bonuses against creatures. For this very reason. We have a to hit mod, but we need defencive mods, and some damage mods, with what ever weapons we are using. Remember, not all rangers and scouts are ranger, or melee, there are all types out there.

We should not have to rely on a special weapon to do this. It's our knowledge and skills that tell us how an animal attacks, to avoid it. Our knowledge and skills that tell us where each creature is most vulnerable, so we can cause the most pain and damage.

Can we have our camps work like current vehicle system in which they take damage but are constant during combat, providing a protection modifier and such.

Can get field base camps which are used during GCW or, guild combat and when declared turrets can be placed and picked up to enhance combat.

for traps can we get explosive kits which we can use to place on turrets atsts and near large groupings of targets. Using the concept of the exploding robots for droid invasion. In the concept of rangers being a military support.

Can our wayfaring /conceal be used so we can sneak in and drop an explosive add /conceal to it set a timer and sneak out.

Using the same Ideology have a ranger detect an explosive device, or set trap, and disable it.

What about support weapons like Traps, explosives, that will work on everything... Yes Rangers should be a support class but give us something that is supportive and usefull. Also Rangers should be able to be more adepbt when dealing with creatures of the wyld. Is this being looked at?

When I joined this game back in August I was thrilled to accomplish the Ranger Proffession. However recently changes in game nad lack of specialization is making the Ranger a dying proffession.

1. Our area track is becoming useless as people use the /who command. Our area track should include faction results too.

2. Our camps are less valuable since you no longer require them to pull pets or vehicles. Our camps should have the same abilities as a cantina or medical center. Especially the HTFBK.

3. Our traps don't improve hunts enough to have people request us to go along. The traps should be able to be used against NPCs and players!! Make us valuable. If we are trying to "hunt men" then when we find them we should be able to trap them. Maybe even make it so BHs want us to tag along.

4. The camo should camo us so well that NPCs, animals, AND PLAYERS can not see us. Camo, mask scent and cover from rifleman should make us invisible. Thus the concept of a ranger.

5. Our harvesting should be NOTICABLY more than even a master scout. So much so that players WANT us to accompany them on hunts.

6. This proffession should be looked at as a NEEDED component for a sucecssful hunt.

7. It requires many skill points to master since it is an elite style proff. Make it worth our time.

8. Give us a special ability to infiltrate an area without being seen, or target and recon vuln times at faction bases or something.

Believe me this could be one of the most exciting proff. in the galaxy if it was tweaked just a little bit.

Reading Holo's post, I just am totally disappointed in the current Dev team and their lack of progress. These were to be worked on 8 months ago?

The trapping is no different, the camps are no different, we got a crappy area track command that barely works. We got conceal that is a little better than maskscent but it takes specific, sometimes hard to find creatures to make the kit. Maskscent and Conceal have almost totally lost their usefullness since the introduction of vehicles. Don't even get me started on Camps!

Where is this stuff we were promised, what is the usefullness of Ranger outside of a harvesting machine? With the new Bio-Engineered foods (Creature Harvesting +30) from chefs we have lost our one unique skill of harvesting machine.

We aren't even in the timetable, then we get a post from TH asking us what he can do for us?

Taken from TH's post 4-12-04 http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=ranger&message.id=45028#M45028

Indeed. The answer is that its always anongoing process and I do what I can. The intentions with the harvester droid should make things a little easier. Now you can harvest things without having to run back and forth. Its a step in the right direction. Omg what a **edit**ing tool, is he serious?

There is a lot going on with the Jedi Revamp and the GCW. New content is coming with the Vette and the new dungeon next month. Professions have a certain amount and we have the Squad Leaders and Smugglers coming up. In the meantime, we will address as many issues as we can.

My question to you is, some day the Ranger profession will be done. What should it look like?

Let me clue you in genius, how about you do the things that Koster had laid out for you guys before he left. He seemed to be the one person with any common sense in your entire team. If Koster was Vader he would force choke all ofthe Live Teamfor it's stupidity and apparent lack of progress.

Help us Obi-Wan Koster you're our only hope!

While my opinion may mean nothing to you DEV's at this point i must say that Holocron had the right ideas and you other DEV's destroyed it. Ranger's should be stealthy and be able to hide from PLAYERS!!! Atleast make our "dot" on the radar dissapear and let us hide in foliage or something to make it fun. And traps need to work on PC's. I hope someone does something by the expansion release. Please DEV's do something about Ranger's uselessness, it has the potential to be a really cool profession. I hope they fix some professions before EQ2 comes out because when that happens, they won't even care about SWG.
