Thread: Ranger correspondent feedback
I don't know how I've not come across this post before (suddenly found it sitting here on page one) and upon reading it I realise that it's an old response. However, it's nice to see that some of those things that were talked about (/areatrack and /conceal) made it in game before I'd even got it imported (been here about 2 months now).
However, the thing that's made me post is... those traps! They are just such great idea's! The bear claw and the lure alone would be enough to make me take the whole of the trapping tree (if necessary) and if I did that, well - I'd take wayfaring again and get master!
Right now, I'm more effective with the skillset I've got - but I just hope that those two traps at least make it in-game!
Incidentally NRaas - I've read the SOP a few times (great job, commented in the latest incarnation) but haven't noticed those mentioned. Did I miss it? Have we had a response (i.e. not getting them) or has the direction changed with regards to traps?
Funny how I'm so near my "ideal" template but so gutted that I don't have the SP's for master ranger that I just know I'll end up dropping everything else to make room for it! So here's hoping that the many fantastic idea's such as those (superb!) traps make it in one day. I can wait!

"I've read the SOP a few times "
Since it was GreenMarine who brought those items to us...
- I don't really see much reason to reiterate his own ideas back to him.

Agreed -but you do ask for the status of the /track command, which was also Greenmarine's idea... ![]()
I'm just wondering if we had any status on whether these new trap designs had been dropped in favour of other idea's or whether it's something that Greenmarine would still like to implement in the future.
As I said, I think they're great idea's but the current sections in the SOP on traps don't mention them - any harm in keeping the idea alive (as you've done with /track)?

"but you do ask for the status of the /track command, which was also Greenmarine's idea"
Actually if you read the Top 5 Report, I ask in regards to the new traps, new camps, and /track. ![]()
- I just don't have any specific line in the Master List for the new traps and new camps, which I will rectify when I get home.
Wow some very interesting changes and for the better i say i am a master CH and master ranger, lots of hard work to get it but I always love the ranger profession and I thought that the CH skill tree would fit perfect as a complement skill tree. However there are two things I would love to see added to the ranger skills, first has to do with the wonderful camo kits and the ability to camo your group, I am a ferm believer that in a pvp environment rangers don’t really have a lot of use ...but with the tracking it will help to find the ones that run away, what I would love to see is when you use the camo kits on yourself or on other players it would make them invisible on the radar thereby making it possible for the famous rebel ambush we could actually go prone on top of a hill lay in wait and then attack our target with out them just doing a ~ attack command, for me one of a ranger's strongest points is to be able to hide from players and npc's alike, I would love to see this in the near future, plus It would add a lot more suspense and group type game play for us rangers.
Next topic some might like but probably i am going to get thrashed for even mentioning it ..o well here it goes, Rangers get a bonus to attacking creatures this I fully agree with but honestly I believe it should be with a ranger only weapon, since ranger are like hunters why not have a bow? lots of hunters even in this day and age prefer the usage of a bow over a gun or rifle, I know this is not EQ heehee that was great game for me for 5 years btw, so since this a more futuristic game why not make it a energy bow you could even have different type of bows for the skill tree that it would be put on, like short bow, longbow heavy crossbow and a energy longbow being the best for the master rangers, I don’t care for towns to much they smell, as such I spend most of my time in the wilds and play more like a tribal ranger then a city person out for adventure with the addition of this kind of weapon I could actually look the role I play.
As for the other changes in the class Thank you very much it is coming in line nicely I actually have a ranger shop on Scyilla server i make traps and camps by the crate load but still not getting any business of course if i had any skill points left i could get a vendor but i don’t lol. Will be interested to see what people think on this thanks for all your time

Hello all, I am Sabreth from Bria, Master Ranger and Master Creature Handler.
I have just spent a considerable amount of time skimming over this thread and reading the comments on the Ranger proffession. To say the least I agree with a lot of the propsed changes and will re-post some of the ideas I read here seeings how they are the same or similar to my own ideas:
As far as conceal is concerned, at Master Ranger, there should be the ability to hide from players both visualy and on radar. Now this is a VERY powerful ability, so for balance issues, make it so the concealed person CANNOT attack NPC's, Creatures or Players. Also, movement should be limited, like after 10 meters of SLOW crawling in the prone position will break your Speacial conceal (for lack of a better phrase at this time). What use would this be to people? Faction scouting so you can scout out enemy movements or capabilities and listen in on thier conversations when they think they are alone. I'll leave whatever bonuses there could be to your imaginations. Also, Conceal is that of Visualy concealing yourself or another, does not mask your scent. Mask Scent and Conceal should work together, because not all creatures and necessarly 'see' but more of 'hear' their surroundings.
Track: By far the most useful ability I have seen in the game, so much so that 'dapplers' are going ranger and getting Trackin I or II just so they can track creatures. It is like 'dapplers' going up Taming/Training in CH just to get the high lvl Creatures to do thier bidding without going full master to use it. I personaly disagree with this and think that the tracking perks should be moved higher up in the tracking tree and even possibly to the Master Ranger box. Also, I would like to see the ability to pick a creature and track it individualy, like a constantly refreshing WP or something, or a sys messege saying that "The Creature has moved NW from its last position by approxamatly 100 meters" or something like that. Again, balance is an issue and although I have never played EQ, the issues over track are of concern to me. So to balance this, make it more difficult to successfully keep tabs on a higher lvl creature...?
Camps: I think that BF should only be healed inside of a Cantina/Hotel/PA Hall/ect. You are out in the wilderness, you are weary, and although camping allows you to heal your wounds, you will NEVER feel totaly refreshed in a camp, regardless of how fancy it gets. I would like to see the Repel perk to the High Tech Field Base Kit fixed, even the lowliest of aggros come waltzing into this camp to aggro me, and end up losing control of the camp.
Traps: All traps, regardless of thier intent, always have been able to affect a human in one way or another. Our current 'Flash Bombs' and 'Sonic Pulses'are prime examples of traps that could be used to affect ANY creature sentient or not that can see/hear. Traps should have a possible chance of 'backfiring' and blinding the trapper or a group member, something to make the use of traps more realistic. I would even like to see the original proposed traps come to fruition, for when I think of traps, THOSE are what I think of, not something we throw to blind a creature or stun it, those are more like flash grenades and stungrenades.
Other things I would like to see that I did not mention above for the Ranger profession: I dunno about anyone else, but the Ranger profession is a very robust and well put together profession, but lacks...overall purpose in the game except to provide support for hunting groups (which in my Guild, Council of Solaris, being a Master Ranger helped in our hunts a lot). I would liketo see more Ranger support for Faction raids/battles and PVP fights. The Creature-to-hit bonus is great and all, but it does not affect pets in PVP, to the best of my knowledge. I think it would be awesome for a Ranger to have thier own unique weapons, like an individual suggested earlier in this thread (sry, i cannot recall the name). A rifleman, carbineer, pistoleer, commando, bounty hunter, Jedi and wookiees have weapons unique to thier profession, Rangers should be able to craft weapons that are planet specific, like thier camo packs (again, the balance issue), and have bonuses to even PVP when the proper weapon is used on the Proper Planet.
I thank you for taking the time to read my ramblings, and please do note that not all these ideas are strictly my own, but of many who have posted on this thread before me that are similar to my own views.

I am learning ranger and I like a lot of what people are saying, but this post was started in august. Nothing has happened. I really don't think the devs do anything except for the power proffessions. I see eveyrone being ch's with bh or commando. Ranger could be really cool, but it just isn't happening.
"I really don't think the devs do anything except for the power proffessions."
Hey now, we got /conceal and /areatrack... I think that is a darn good start. ![]()
- Ihappen to know thatChef is getting some love right now, and I do not consider them a Power profession...

"Hey man, I thought you were a Commando?"
"Nah... I dropped it for Chef! Now I can really Flambé!"

LOL! :-D
NRaas is great. Of all the correspondents I've read, NRaas is the most respectful, the quickest to respond, one of the most knowledgeable about the profession he represents, and his posts are certainly a pleasure to read. If there's a correspondent of the year award, I /nominate NRaas! Thanks for being our correspondent.
No, I dont really have a book, but I do have several Post-It notes!
