wish i knew what was going on. There are several professions that need to be fixed because A) THEY SUCK B) are bugged to eternal fire and back C) have no real point in being a profession...

So I would say personaly that they scrapped some of the originally proposed ideas cause when they added all the features to Ranger, it wasn't there. I felt like just sharing my idea's of what a ranger should be capable of, not really expecting SOE to actually take actions upon it. I would really really love to see the additions and changes made to the Ranger profession, but highly doubt it will happen until after the first expansion is released (which is originaly slated for February and most likely won't come out until June).

Ok here is my character setup:

Bothan, Master Ranger, expert carbine counterinsurgency line (for the nifty "infiltrator" title), with a full suit of +camo clothing made by a master tailor. This adds up to a +145 to my camo. Now you would think that this would get me past anything in the game (being the highest you can possibly raise it short of having your clothing sockets crammed with +1 camou attachments), But no way. Many humanoid mobs spot me right away, especially nightsisters who tend to one shot kill me for over 2k damage (even when im buffed). I still have problems with weak mobs detecting me as well, which should NEVER happen.

It seems to me that if a player so chooses to follow a different career path than the norm (i.e. stealth vs. big guns like commando or puppeteers like CH) that a player should be able to and be rewarded for his efforts. The more I play this game the more it seems that running in all guns blazing is what is expected of us (i.e. QUAKE). I prefer to play a solo sneaking type character, but even with all the work i put into this character I am severely disappointed that it does not play out as common sense would dictate. Apparently stealth would be way too overpowered in SWG so it shouldnt work as well as say a flamethrower or 3 rancors. I mean after all it would totally imbalance the game world if a few players were able to sneak into certain areas to see neat things and mobs they cant even talk to without 50 people to support them.

Anyway I think the /conceal skill should be tweaked a bit to work a little better than it does. Just my 2 cents.

"with a full suit of +camo clothing made by a master tailor. This adds up to a +145 to my camo."

Only +25 of your +145 camo bonus is actually being used, as it is capped at that level.

  • And since you are a Bothan, it is possible that only +10 of your camo bonus is being used, as your player has a natural +15 already.

Please read my replies within the following thread regarding bonuses on clothing:

yeah i know,

master ranger = +100

Bothan = +15

Clothing = +30 (but only 25 is used)

That is still +140. Think it would be a little more effective than having reptilian flyers uncovering it eh?

I don't know why it would be such a big deal if rangers

could be invisible with /conceal. That would make rangers

really valuable scouts in PvP. They could disarm minefields

and scout the locations of enemy troops beforehand and

maybe /mark them for other members in group. Of

course there is a chance that someone will detect concealed

ranger and scouts/rangers should have bonuses

detecting concealed players, NPC's and creatures.

Now u think that /conceal would be powerful when attacking

others. Well lets make it so that theres a delay when

ranger starts to attack someone from /conceal, that ranger

will be visible for...say 5 seconds before any attack can

be made so this could not be exploited in combat.

When Do We Get It

I hope to have the implementation of these new features wrapped up soon, but since the Ranger is getting a lot of new functionality to make up for a weak initial skill set, it may take a bit longer to get these features to you. The new traps and wayfaring changes are very close to being ready to go, with the tracking and camps to follow some time after.

guess he wasn't kidding about that...

Thanks for the info on our futur.

But there is one grim issue to be adressed: the fact that conceal doesn't work anymore on NPC since 2 days ago.

Holo says:

You can now conceal your friends to give them a chance to sneak past enemies as well.

There is no point to this as long as NPCs and Creature can randomly spawn anywhere. It's not like you can decide to hunt Endor, but only creatures. Creatures and NPC are all tangled up togheter, specially on Lok, Yavin, Endor and Dath. To seperate our ability to hides from both is illogical, it's renders it useless.

Would you use an insect repeling lotion if it only worked on flies, and not mosquitos? No, you would not.

NPCs have the largest aggro range, same as our max range as players (64m). We need camos to help our fellows BE, Medics, Surveyors, and Rifflemen.

Now, i read that a dev said it never was intended to repel NPC. That is obviously not true, you just have to read the in-game definition of wayfaring 1: it clearly mentions NPCs.

So, i'd like an answer. Camo on NPC gone = A bug or a Nerf? If a nerf, are we that strong that we need a nerf?

Thanks for answering.

Rangers are broken. They are useless. Rangers are only good for looting creatures of resources as a cash-crop. Tracking is useless in the face of vehicles. Speed is useless in the face of vehicles. The traps are useless against the big creatures and BHs get a lot fo them anyway. Their stealth is BROKEN and simply doesn't work very well. They get very little bonuses against creatures. They get very little of everything.

I was thinking that it would be good if when we track Players we SHOULD be able to see whether they are imperial, rebel, or neutral. I personally think this would make us MORE valuable.

I personaly agree with the ranger assesment, i have not reached master yet and see it is not that great.... i love the trapping, but I dissagree that flashbombs are useless against NPCs, and that we don't havve more anti NPC weapons.

The ranger is a skill that is supposed to be a loner and yet we have no killing traps, diabling traps, etc. as well the camps are not much better untill the last.

My guild likes me being a ranger for the field, but i wish I was more useful, as well a ranger's tent should not disband from entering combat ... that is just dumb.

Well I love SWG, and it is the first MMORPG I have played , and liked ..... its a matter of making it fun, and getting into the game.. well hope you fix ranger soon, as you have nerfed all other careers and havent fixed the ones that require fixing, but it is the most immence MMORPG to date, and is vastly more complex than the other ones, as well as having a completly new concept, etc. I know it takes time, so good work so far, but please take input before you nerf things .... it upsets a lot of paying customers.
